    Why would they sink a ship that could hold 2000 gallons of fuel and have no clue how much is in there? Risky no?

    my guess: because it's safer to sink it in a controlled environment out at sea than it would be to let it spill into a residential bay somewhere.

    I thought this whole story was fascinating. I would have loved to have been on the Coast Guard team that found the ship. The ghost ship was at sea for something like a year, no? That's just amazing to me.
