Sparano having some say over personnel was pretty much a known thing. What is unknown is whether it was Sparano or Ireland or both who made that call. IMO Ireland gets the blame regardless b/c he's the head personnel guy. It's reasonable to speculate that he may have had no choice b/c of how things played out with Sparano, but Ireland still gets the blame. This isn't like when he was "GM" and Parcells would remove players from Ireland's draft board.
Very true Raf...just like it's pretty unknown who made/approved of moves made by the regime when Quitcells was here... Was it Ireland, Sparano or Parcells ??
Irregardless of whether Ireland or Sparano brought in Columbo, it was Sparano who kept him in the lineup. Would, or could anyone off of the bench be any worse at RT? And another point is, how many RTs in the NFL do you have that you need to bring in a TE or another lineman to protect him?
We do know that Parcells had final say. We know Parcells had projects that were his and that he also unilaterally took players off the board. We also know that Sparano didn't have have personnel power until after the Harbaugh thing. We know that Ireland was in charge of the UDFAs and CFL scouting.
