-- Rishard Matthews caught a touchdown pass from Tannehill during 11-on-11s.
-- Marcus Thigpen dropped a pass when he heard Nolan Carroll's footsteps. Thigpen had plenty of drops.
-- Will Davis deflected a pass during JV's 11-on-11s. He jumped the route.
-- Chandler Burden was working as the JV center and clearly needs work. He had a ridiculously high snap. Looked like a field goal.
-- Aaron Corp got sacked by rookie defensive tackle Chris Burnette.
-- Caleb Strugis missed a 47 yard field goal then made a 32-yarder, 48-yarder, and 49-yarder. No work during team session for Dan Carpenter.
-- Austin Spitler forced Matt Moore to throw the ball away during his second snap of 11-on-11.
-- Kelcie McCray intercepted a Matt Moore pass. Great safety play. He's clearly a sleeper.
-- Ryan Tannehill threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Dustin Keller, who was wide open. Tannehill said the play got called back. I didn't see the penalty.
-- On the next play H-back Charles Clay roasted Reshad Jones down the seam for a touchdown pass Tannehill ripped throw the secondary. Bold throw!
-- Rishard Matthews scored three touchdowns today. One on a deep ball and two in the red zone.
-- Kyle Miller caught two red zone passes that set up Cameron Marshall's touchdown run for the JV squad.
-- Armons Binns caught a jump ball touchdown on a QB scramble from Pat Devlin.
-- "We thought he was decisive in the way he plays the game," Philbin said of Dannell Ellerbe.
-- "He's a big guy. Catches the ball with his hands well. He's an intriguing prospect," Philbin said of new WR Courtney Gardner.
-- Because the defense got the best of the offense today Joe Philbin joked that "I'm a defensive coach today."

He needs to be the guy staying late, arriving early and his nose in the playbook at all times. The physical ability is unquestioned just a matter of if he has it in his heart.

I too believe Dez may be finally "getting it" (cue an ESPN bottom line reading Bryant was arrested)..
As far as the heart for Gardener, I feel like he must commit himself 110% to make our roster. Does he love the game?? I'm sure, but some athletes have the desire to be great and some leave it to chance.
If I'm Gardener I'm stalking Ryan Tannehill day and night.

Or maybe he sees going undrafted as a motivational tool, Atleast I hope he adopts that mentality. He certainly looks the part of a beast WR....will be one of the things I watch the closest in TC.

I hope so. I think we're fine at WR and RB but with Bess gone he may have to handle all of the punts, not just the ones where we have good field position.

Exactly, as big a fan of Thiggy as I am, reality says a guy who is shaky at times returning punts and had 1 carry last yr has to do more to make the team and be that guy who doesn't get a lot of touches but makes things happen when he does get the ball.
IE..catch the darn ball when it comes your way or you may be looking for work elsewhere.

He's got about 13 mins of YouTube stuff..his attitude after finish of the play is telling, he plays with a very high opinion of himself, superiority swagger, and after watching him run and cut, and how he goes horizontal a lot sometimes dodging defendersm that tells me he feels like he can do anything on the field against that competition so he just jukes around and runs like a back, schoolyard ball, of course he's going to need to stop a lot of that, and learn to go upfield ala Sammy Watkins, but I'd just like to see if he gets some inspiration to what you say, Wallace has some street cred, maybe Pennington gets him, and you know philbin sat down with him..it's all a mystery to me as to why kids with talent don't capitolize on their luck..maybe he needs a night out with Jim Turner..that dude sets ya strait man..

This is where a veteran WR comes in and takes a guy under his wing ala Chris Carter with Moss. Wallace has a lot on his plate learning a new system, expectations etc.
If the kid has a Chad Johnson type attitude the sky's the limit, T.O was once a raw project but he worked his ass off OFF the field...he just wanted $$ and attention. It CAN be done, but sadly more often than not these guys aren't willing to do what it takes to be a pro.
djphinfansubscriberThe weather again played a role as the Dolphins started Organized Team Activities today in Davie. This time the rain came early and the team practiced inside the bubble, but it didn’t affect the workload on Wednesday morning. The focus was primarily on more red zone situations and tempo again was at a rapid pace. There were some encouraging signs on both sides of the ball, and here are some of the highlights of today’s workout.
1) Defense Looks Sharp – The one constant today was the ability of multiple defenders to make plays on the football and getting some takeaways from the offense! Not only did players look comfortable in defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle’s scheme, they played with quickness and were decisive when attacking the ball. Linebacker Koa Misi and safety Kelcie McCray both had interceptions in competitive drills today, and linebackers Philip Wheeler and Dannell Ellerbe looked like they were settling in quickly. Cornerback Brent Grimes again impressed me with his technique and skill, and his body language screams with confidence.
2) Hartline and Matthews Looking Sharp – Wide receivers Brian Hartline and Rishard Matthews continue to impress me with their ability to run crisp routes and catch the football. Both have also looked clean getting in and out of their routes and finding the soft spots when attacking zone coverage. Hartline was on the receiving end of a touchdown from backup quarterback Matt Moore, who also connected with receiver Brandon Gibson on a would-be score. Matthews has the ability and skill to challenge for one of the remaining spots in the receiver rotation if his production continues to flourish.
3) Some Young Players To Watch – It’s never too early to get excited about some of the new faces trying to make a name for themselves. Some of the players that caught my attention today:
- Second-year linebacker Josh Kaddu looks like he has a better understanding of spacing in pass coverage.
- Running back Lamar Miller displayed his trademark speed and looks like he belongs.
- Tight end Kyle Miller catches everything thrown his way and might challenge for the last spot at this position.
- Placekicker Caleb Sturgis has a range that might be difficult to ignore as we get closer to training camp and into the preseason.
Matthews looking good, Gibson sounds like is trying to get used to the slot, and Hartline commenting about him translating the classroom to the field..
