Our own Phil Unwin chimes in. Read the rest here: http://www.thephins.com/2010/09/19/im-already-looking-ahead-to-week-3/
The 5 passing attempts in the first half? Lowest total in the 41 yr history of the franchise. Phil nailed it, and I've been saying it, this yr is a return to 08, no turnovers, no mistakes, run the ball. When Dan Henning said in his presser: "If I could run the ball down the field and score I'd do so every time so help me God" And he wasn't kidding neither!
That statement is spot-on. We ran it up the guts against one of the best rushing D's and still won. That's remarkable
If I'm Henning and I'm seeing this defense, I'm comfortable running it all day as well, assuming it's successful. The opening play of the game put Minnesota's defense on their heels for a bit. One of the rare occasions where I felt our offense had control in the game.
As one Minnesota fan friend of mine kept saying, Miami's offensive line was simply dominating Minnesota's defensive line a good portion of the game. That being said, Henning's style of play is simply way too conservative for my tastes. I think we need a much better balanced attack. This offense is starting to look, as another poster alluded, like Wanny-ball; or even worse, like that morbid brand of offense we had under Jimmy. Thankfully our defense has pulled our nuts out of the fire each game, but we can't rely on them shutting everyone down all game long. We need to put some damn points on the board, and you're not gonna do that throwing the ball 15 times a game.
This is the franchise's 45th season. Is it the lowest in our history or 41 years? OT: we threw 6 the entire game vs Oakland in 1973 and 7 against MIN in Super Bowl VIII.
I could have sworn Sapp was blitzing the play he was called for being offsides, nullifying JA's hat trick. Nice read though
Good article.. We beat a very good team today..the vikings are legit in that conference...and I miss Odrick already too..especially with flashes of ryan baker out there. in the first half, we handled them strait up, they started doing a lot of misdirection after. Tony put himself together another oline...anyone still thinking he replaced 3/5th's of the unit for sh$# and giggles...He chose NOT to stay staus quo.
