Im not sure about the whole Baylor route tree thing. Terrence Williams has as complete a route tree as any player in this draft at WR. A better example for an incomplete or specialist route tree might be a guy like Patterson who ran a lot of 9's and clear out routes.

Specialist receivers like the guys you describe are in large part dependent on QB's who can fit the ball through tight windows and supporting cast complimenting their specialties. Welker is a great example. The Pats use him a lot as a slot guy and then use whoever is their Z receiver (whether it be Moss, Lloyd, etc) as a clear out guy so that Welker can run screens, quick outs and other routes designed to create one on one matchups. Its a matchup nightmare for defenses because youre either going to double team the Z or take a chance at getting burned deep or play 1-1. That works with bad qb's but not qbs who make reads well like a Brady, Manning, Brees etc...

So um, who do you want us to draft? :)

 

I think they've given lip service to the idea of "complete" wide receivers, but I'm not sure the Dolphins are really in a position where they should value that heavily.

Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline, and Brandon Gibson have professional histories involving little to no experience in the slot. Less than "normal" even, where a lot of guys who primarily play X or Y positions will have some experience, they have very little. Any additional players they add will likely be at least de facto slot guys, and will be at the expense of their current slot player for the most part.

 

The thread is exactly at 42. I wonder if we'll go over.

 

The guy gets such little play yet his numbers are incredible.

 

There's a small group of us who believe he'll be the best WR from this class. The guy is a little short, but he's like Steve Smith & Hines Ward had a baby, IMO. He's a Miami native, grew up a Dolphin fan, could see the stadium from his high school. High character guy too.

 

I think he's taking a trajectory similar to, but not as drastic as Davone Bess. Bess had monster numbers in college that were comparable to the top guy that year, Michael Crabtree. Bess went undrafted and established himself as a damn good player. He, like Bailey, got pushed down because of the stories of the guys ahead of him. I see Bailey as a great player. Bailey and Swope are my two favorite in this draft honestly.

 

I've taken some flack for this, but I'd be all about taking Austin, Bailey and Swope and go into the season with those 3 and Wallace, Gibson & Hartline and then after the draft I'd do a backflip and put on sunglasses cause haters gonna hate.

 

Bailey looks to me like this year's TY Hilton.

 

Da'Rick Rodgers has all the ability in the world. If he goes to a strong locker room and has a good mentor, your looking at Dez Bryant ability. I'd love to snatch him in the 3rd if he is available but I doubt it.

Ryan Swope seems like a complete receiver.

 

Bailey would be a complete WR. I would not include Keenan Allen or Terence Williams or even Tavon Austin in that definition. That being said, I would take Austin b/c he's so dynamic at what he does well.

 

I agree with Bailey and Allen. Bailey's my favorite WR. I'd add DeAndre Hopkins to that list. Swope is a darkhorse. With his speed, he could be a pretty complete WR.

Off field problems aside, I can't think of a more complete receiver in this draft than Da'Rick Rogers. He reminds me a bit if Mike Williams from Syracuse/Tampa Bay. In terms of having a physical presence at WR taht we lost with the Brandon Marshsall trade Rogers would be a good fit imo, and in that same vein I haven't given up on Jeff Fuller yet.
