I'm having several issues with my desktop:

    1. I'm losing apps one by one. All across the spectrum; MS Office Picture Manager, most importantly, since it's the one photo app I use all the time. They just stop working, no explanation.
    2. And solutions aren't forthcoming because Problem Reporting isn't working; it can't connect even though my internet connection is working fine.
    3. None of my photos in ANY folders are showing thumbnails, just icons; I've tried changing this in folder properties, but no go. It's hard to look for specific pics when you have to open each pic individually to view it.
Short of reinstalling Vista (64 Ultimate) I've tried using the disc to repair windows, but it didn't help.

    Any ideas?

    Don't know, they install automatically.

Plus I didn't notice that apps were disappearing until I went to use one...who knows if it had stopped working days before.

    Thanks, bro.

I've googled and been to several forums and no one else seems to have this combination of issues.

I would say it's not a virus, since I have windows live and it updates definitions every day.

Sorry Nabo, you have the Vista Virus, the only known cure is Linux...

If I had to guess i would guess virus, or somethings wrong with your registry. Do the icons disappear or just don't load? When you click the program and click taskbar do you see the process running or trying to run? Check applications thens processes for the program.

When I click the app icon nothing happens; it never loads. And it has disappeared as an option for opening the file type associated with it.

If I open Problem Reporting, it is listed as a problem - an app that has "stopped working."

But since Problem Reporting isn't able to get online, no solution is forthcoming.
