So my gf's mom is in town, and she has her laptop with vista on it. I have a wireless router so she was trying to connect. When she clicked on my wireless connection, it asked for the ID number on my router, instead of my wireless password, which I thought was weird. Anyhow, she entered it and connected. Problem is, now I've completely lost my wireless connection on MY laptop. I'm piggy-backing off a neighbor on a ****ty connection as we speak. I went into my wireless settings, and it doesn't even acknowledge my router. WTF happened here? I even disabled the connection on her mom's computer and no dice. Help me out here. BTW, I mentioned her mom has Vista because I know how unreliable that OS has been and wondered if that has anything to do with it.
make sure your LAN connection is enabled control panel then network connection by coincidence the card could be fried
Nope, that's not it. And I know it's not my card or router because as soon as she entered that ID, I was kicked off of wireless on my phone, which I use because it makes browsing on it a lot faster. It's almost as if her computer has claimed that wireless router as it's own. Which sucks because it's severed all connections with my other devices. To make matters worse, I cannot connect to her computer. Even after I type in the ID, it just says it's authenticating...and does nothing. I even tried deleting her network connection, still nothing.
It's a Linksys. I tried that, it didn't work. I tried unplugging and everything. Like I said, her mom's laptop is connected fine. So its obviously working. I knew I shouldn't have let her enter that damn ID.
Why on earth would it ask you that? That is weird. Have you tried configuring it from your gf's mom's laptop?
I thought the same thing. The only thing it should've neeeded was my WPA Network Password. I did try it from her laptop. Honestly, I think I'm just gonna give up until she leaves. I told my Gf this is hurting her chances of ever getting me to marry her
I've never heard of this issue before. Did she use Vista's built in wireless utility or another program?
Vistas built-in. I think looking back on it I know where the problem may have been. My guess is there was an option to just connect to my wireless connection, but she chose the "configure" option instead. It's just a guess though.
This is A LOT harder to fix than I thought it was gonna be. I'm going to have to hard reset my router, then change the password and WPA. I forgot the password, and can't find my Linksys router start-up disk, so I'm in for a rough one.
