Confused as to why JT is excited about the Skins

What else would you expect him to say. its politics at its best.

 

JT doesn't care about winning.

 

JT has a much better shot of winning.

 

He could at least be in a playoff race in Washington. He doesnt even have that much to look forward to in Miami. And it isnt like he picked the Redskins, or lobbied for a trade to them. What's he supposed to do at this point other than be excited?

 

Pissing and moaning after the fact wouldnt have done much good. It would've been a further PR nightmare for him, and just reduced his chances even further of being traded. Not to mention it'd further burn bridges in Miami. We dont know all the info about GB, so it's hard to say what really happened with that, but I'm sure if he'd just been dealt he would have handled it the same way he's handling the 'Skins trade.

 

They still have a better shot of winning the Superbowl than the Dolphins.

 

Holdout. Threaten retirement. Try to tell his boss how to do his job. Call out his teammates in the media. Question the importance of OTAs.

Those are just some of the things.

 

You do know they went to the playoffs last year right? I know, I know, new coach, etc. But still. The NFC east beats each other up so much, a lot of teams have a shot at the end of the year usually.

 

Well not just a new coach. They went from a HOF coach to Jim Zorn. Not saying he will be bad, but its an unknown. The Redskins have a lot of unknowns, just like many teams in the league, including the Dolphins. If John Beck comes in and is productive theres no reason we arent as good as them.

 

I think maybe one thing that JT may well be looking at is that he and ZT are now division rivals. Any of you who enjoys competition (and/or has a brother or in-law who you're close to) can probably see how that might give the guy a fresh outlook.

 

I think we pretty much proved last year that every team in the nfl was closer to a super bowl then us.

 

He has 8 million reasons.

 

Redskins made the playoffs last year. We haven't made the playoffs in like 6 years.

If JT thinks his chances of---
#1 Getting to a playoff game AGAIN?
#2 Winning a playoff game,,,,?
#3 And having A chance to win a lombardi trophy with this Skins team?
JT must of spent some of this offseason hanging with Ricky..

He backed himself into this corner and has no one but himself to blame. He is in Washington and has to put on a happy face, but I have no doubts that Washington would not have been his 1st choice.

They also rode an emotional last 4 games after the death of Sean Taylor. That inspired them to make the playoffs, and still I believe someone had to lose that last week for them to make it, or they would have been on the outside looking in.

Washington is not any better than 9-7 and probably receeds a little to 7-9.

 

Theres not much to see. The skins went to the playoffs last year. Theyre better than us. End of story.

 

He says he wants to be on a winning team....if they are 9-7 I guess he'll be okay with that. I don't think they will be a winning team, and then he'll look like a whiney primadonna, or rather MORE like a whiney primadonna.

 

In all fairness... this isn't last season. Right now, we're a much better team than 1-15, and it wouldn't shock me if we wound up with an equal or better record than the 'Skins. We played those guys last year, and they didn't exactly strike me as a 'great' football team. They have their own problems, and it wouldn't take much for Washington to be picking in the top 5 of next year's draft... they went 5-11 and picked at #6 only two years ago.

Jason can say whatever he wants. He's always been political with the media, and he's going to say all the right things. He accepted the trade and he's trying to act all positive about it because the new regime didn't kiss his butt, he pouted, acted like a baby, and let his ego dig a hole much too deep for him to climb out of.

 

Yes and this so called better team had to kick a field in OT to beat a team that you claim was inferior to them...

to be honest I'm a little amazed at the naiivite in here. Of course JT is going to say he's happy to be there. You expect him to say he's upset to be there? He's just saying the right things.

As far as it being the Redskins, I'm sure that's not his first choice, but being that the Skins were the only team willing to pony up our asking price, JT really had no choice. You guys are acting like JT hand-selected that team or something. ;-)

I think that some fans (me included) are taking issue with statements that the skins are on the cuspid of a improved playoff contender and the JT trade makes them a player in the NFC East...

Hey if JT wanted out of Miami so bad then I am very happy for the guy.. But to infer that JT has a chance with this Redskin team to be a major playoff contender with possiblities of a s-b ring is completley nut's as far as I am concerned!

Peter King seems to think that the Redskins are the winners as far as who got the better part of the trade.. I myself wish that JT would have handled the whole situation better and will miss seeing him play for this team ..

And Parcells is --- well---- Parcells in that he will take issue with anyone who doesn't buy into his program and deviates from what the Tuna believes is for the positive progression of the team...

In the end it is for the best for both JT and the Dolphins that this divorce finally happened.. And getting 2nd rnd and 6th rnd picks for a guy that will turn 34 before the start of this season imo is a gigantic plus for the Phins.

If the skins had (as far as talent) what the Giants, Cowboys and even the Eagles seemingly have then yes this move would be icing on the cake but I for one do not see them anywhere near those 3 teams..

Except the Skins made the playoffs last year and the Eagles didn't.

The Giants also went from a fringe playoff team in 2006 to Super Bowl champions last year.

Personally, I don't believe the Skins are going to be that great either. But I don't think people can just dismiss them. They do have a lot of good players, and they probably have flown under the radar of perception since the media has focused much more on teams like the Giants and Cowboys lately.

 

What do you expect him to say. The Redskins are one of those teams that I could see going 11-5, but on the flip side I could see them going 5-11. The NFC East is a tough division with the Cowboys, Giants, and Eagles. I really think they are all pretty equal in talent with the edge maybe going to the Cowboys. I think the NFC East will be a shoot out again this year so who knows how it'll turn out. Jason Taylor can only help the Redskins though...

 

Regardless, they made the playoffs. Not something we have been able to say in a long time.

I'm not saying Washington is a great situation. They are in the toughest division in the NFL and have an inexperienced staff- I don't think they'll make much of any noise this year.

But to say it's not a better situation than here right now is crazy.

Some may be underestimating the Redskins. They split W-L with their division rivals. Turned around a 4 game losing streak and won 4 in a row to end the season. Like the king said they could go either way. But I wouldn't be surprised to see them win 10 games.

if jt were truly unhappy about going to the skins don't you think he wouldve blocked the trade by retiring ala jake plummer and tampa bay? he was more happy about getting out of miami then anything else.
they have a better shot this yr to do well then some are giving credit for. they will have a pretty good d this yr even with sean being gone and smoot getting hurt. this is landry's second yr and think he will only be better,they just got a pro-bowl de/olb(granted it states he will be on the left side at de)but im sure they will move him around to keep the opposing o on their toes about where he is much like his first yr we moved him around. some say he is declining but a fresh start in a new scene who generaly wants him there.
remember the skins made it to the playoffs with a carousel at qb and a oft injured back but their back-up is no lamor gordon.
this yr their starter in cambell should be alot more comfortable with his surrounding and the talent he has.
yes portis is a question mark of reliability but the passing game should help take some of the pressure off with cooley coming of a good yr and moss being there so they have the tools to do it as long as the injury bug doesnt keep biting them.
they also had a o-line last yr that was riddled with injuries starting in the first game(we played them and saw 2 gaurds go down and they still did a good job of giving their qb enough time to do his thing.
as far as a strong division i don't see philly being great this yr with mcnabb having questions about his own durability and if kobb(i think thats the #2 qb) has to come in they could be in for a long season. the main threat is dallas but they dont neccisarily have to win the division to make it to the playoffs.

 

They aren't on the cusped of being a playoff contender. They were in the playoffs last year, which makes them a playoff team, no contender necessary. They had NINE times the number of wins that the Dolphins did. They were a player in the east before JT got there. They finished the regular season with wins against NY and Dallas.

Go position by position and tell me where the Dolphins are stronger than the Skins? Could we be better? Sure, but that would mean that whole bunch of players stepped up their game. As it stands the Skins have a far better chance of doing something in the coming year than the rebuilding Dolphins. This is the same Dolphins that just traded their only pro bowl player last year to the Skins.

JT has every reason to feel that he just had his chance at a ring upgraded.

 

Yep. New team, new town, new chances. Whether he gets there or not is moot at this point.

 

All of which is exactly why there was a rift between JT and Tunaland that was not going to get resolved. So little is being made of the fact that JT refused to attend any of the offseason activities. Why did he do all this if he wanted to or thought that he could resolve things with Tunaland ?? The fact of the matter is...JT did not want to play in Miami any longer...therefore, any team that they could get him moved to was better, in his eyes, than playing for Miami...

 

This is probably the stupidest thing I've ever read.

 

I hope JT is happy to be in Washington, he deserves to be on a team he is happy with after eleven good years in Miami. He knew Miami was in a youth movement and were looking to replace the aged veterans who had big contracts and the departure of his closest friend in Zack Thomas was proof of that. He probably didn't expect Miami to keep him around for long with his 8 million dollar contract.
If the young guys show anything this year then Vonnie Holliday will probably be gone next year if not sooner.
I am very happy and excited that Miami got what they did for a 34 year old player because they need as many draft picks as they can get in order to rebuild effectively. I am more concerned with that than I am about what Jason Taylor wants or likes or dislikes.
We all knew hard decisions would have to be made in order to turn this franchise around. Well Jason Taylor and Zack Thomas were two of those hard decisions. I am sure we all or at least most loved both Zack and Jason Taylor but they were not greater than the Dolphins needs but TJMO.

 

Yeah, I think that was the case. Also, in DC with Snyder he is much better situated for post-NFL things. He'll get better exposure and make much more connections.

I really think that Vonnie Holliday just was trying to make sure JT will invite him to his parties with his comments the other day.
