Four comments.
First, he said “I do not plan on coaching next year.” He should have said something more definitive, like “I will not coach next year, period.” He may not plan on coaching next year now, but plans can change.
Second, he came a little closer to being unequivocal by saying “I plan on being back in the same seat next year.” Again, he used the tried and true wiggle word: “Plan.”
Third, it doesn’t matter if he repeats it in December. It matters if he repeats it in January.
Fourth, even if Cowher were unequivocal, it really doesn’t mean anything,

Been calling that one for awhile. He seems to enjoy his TV gig. Besides, Gruden is where its at for me. I want an offensive coach with Andrew Luck under center.

With the disaster that is the Miami Dolphins (Stephen Ross, Jeff Ireland, etc), who in their right mind would want to become the next head coach of this shambled organization? I expect Sparano to be fired (actually hoping when I wake up in the morning, I'll read that it's finally happened), but after seeing how poorly this enture organization has been run, I don't suspect we'll be seeing any big name coaches accepting the head coaching job a the end of the season.

Until Ross sells the Dolphins, I suspect when the Dolphins next head coach is named, we're all going to be scratching our heads and saying..."WHO????"

It's all PR, besides Cowher doesn't have the Sabanesque history.

 

Problem with him is that his defense would be a bit tough to install.

 

I would expect him to say what he has all a long. That is that he is not and will not talk about the situation until the season is over. But today he apparently put all that to reast saying before the game that he likes where he is, what he's doing and will be right there next year. If that is a lie, then Cowher himself said it.


edit: Cowher also said that he has not been directly contacted by the Dolphins. Perhaps reading between the lines might mean that if he was, his answer may be different. Who really knows?

 

Again Mike Zimmer would be the right guy. Easy to install defense, captures the player's hearts, balanced, smart guy.

His answer isn't going to be different. There is one, maybe two teams he's interested in and the Dolphins aren't one of them. Cowher is not going to the coach of the Dolphins. Time to move on.

 

That's who I would like to see, but as previously mentioned...the whole organization is screwed up.

 

Do you really want someone who doesn't want to be there in the first place? What should make this all interesting is that Fisher isn't the big time name Ross would want so where does that leave him? Perhaps yet another LSU coach? Maybe he goes for a good coordinator, just maybe.

he'd like to believe he is an honorable man - so, he isn't going to openly say he wants the job ... actually, he can't given his statements last year.

regardless of his intentions ... he has to say the right things.

The question I have with Zimmer, or any other defensive minded coach for that matter, is what will he do offensively. We do not need the same philosophy that we have had the past 15 years. We need someone that is going to be willing to put it on the quarterback's shoulders and open it up.

That's not true at all. There are three jobs Cowher is interested in. The New York Giants, the Miami Dolphins, and the Houston Texans. Right now, it doesn't look like New York or Houston will be available. Plus, if he is truly motivated to get back into coaching, Miami is the one of the three that can and will offer him what he wants - power.

The issue I have with Cowher is that he is more of the same. Run the ball, play defense, win the kicking game, and manage the game from the quarterback position. Even if he lands Luck, we still will not see an offense that is opened up and throws the ball all over the place.

The key word is "plan." As we all know, "Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans."

 

I would say the key word is "not". I find it amusing that some folks think that since he is not planning to coach somehow a foregone conclusion that means that he will.

While I prefer Cowher or Gruden as the Dolphins next coach. If the Dolphins decide to hire an assistant HC from another team to take over as the Dolphins new head coach, I hope it is Rob Chudzinski. He has done an excellent job building an offense around Cam Newton this season. Since the Dolphins will have a young QB running the offense next season, a HC like Chudzinski would be more effective in rebuilding the teams new offense around this new QB.

It would be nice if the Dolphins could hire Chudzinski as the HC and Zimmer as the defensive coordinator, but if only one of these coaches are hired by the Dolphins, I would take Chudzinski over Zimmer.

 

Well here is my vote for Coach, Luther Horatio Van Damm, and as GM Hayden Fox and for QB Coach Dauber...

 

And how's that worked out for him? Two Super Bowl appearances and one Super Bowl Championship. I'd say his formula worked pretty well.

-Smash mouth football. Pound their defensive line into submission with your powerful offensive line. Break them physically.
-Decimate their offense with your overwhelming and smothering defense. Make receivers FEAR getting obliterated if they make the catch.
-Minimize mistakes

Cowher has a ring. Sparano doesn't...neither does Cameron, nor Saban, nor Wannstast (as a head coach). The last head coach we had with a Super Bowl ring was Jimmy Johnson which he did in Dallas with some running back out of Florida named.....what was his name? Oh yea...Emmitt Smith...the league's all time leading rusher and a powerful offensive line that allowed him to put up those numbers and win 3 rings. Karim Abdul Jabar was no Emmitt Smith. Besides, what do you want? You want an opened up offense, or do you want Super Bowl Championship?

Meanwhile, the Dolphins haven't been to the Super Bowl since the 1984 season even with Dan Marino thowing the ball for 36 miles during his career. That was an opened up offense with all of those high flying passes and high scoring games and still...no Super Bowl Championship.

Besides, if all you base your entire team upon is the QB, you're in trouble because when that QB gets hurt and you have no other balance on your team (ie; Indianapolis) you're combat ineffective and your team is done for the season...even before it starts.

As Mr Miyagi would say...."Must have balance...balance key...whole life...balance good? Football good...balance bad? Better pack up go home"

 

That settles it I want mike shula as the o.c. and I want Don Shula to unretire for a year and Bob Kuechenburg as the oline coach .

seriously I want Steve Mariuchi that guy was world class and he knew what he was doing , he just got a raw deal in which it suprises me that he hasnt found another job yet.
