Cromartie can't escape Marshall

ESPN Stats & Information researcher Matt Lyon, with help from ProFootballFocus.com play-by-play data, produced some numbers that show Cromartie has had trouble containing Marshall the past two years.
The first game that comes to mind is Marshall's gaudy performance against the Chargers in Week 2 of the 2008 season. Marshall caught 18 passes for 166 yards and a touchdown.
What an awful day for Cromartie. The NFL's official game book from that sunny afternoon had Cromartie on the scene for five Marshall receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown. NFL game books, however, only note the defender who made the tackle. While that often indicates the responsible defender on a pass play, it's not always accurate.
But the game book also reminds us Cromartie committed three accepted penalties against Marshall (unnecessary roughness, facemask, defensive holding) for 22 yards. Another Cromartie defensive holding call was offset.

That's probably true most of the time. But, I hope they move Marshall around and really take advantage of matchups.
Rhody Phins FanForum VeteranCromartie would have absolutely no shot of tackling Marshall in the open field. I highly doubt the Jets will let him get out of Revis' sights.
why, they really won't have to .... Hartline on the other side of Marshall makes a pretty good tandem. Add anything from the slot and TE and it makes us a pretty tough matchup no matter what. Marshall will be able to beat most CBs one on one - Revis included. I'd take my chances on Hartline vs Cromartie without any help.

I watched the replay of Denver v SD last on on NFLN and Marshall lined up in the slot maybe 40% of the time which was really something to see, he just beasted whoever was on him.

TheAnswer385Forum Veteranyea, however last season Marshall only had like 60 yards in two games versus the chargers.

Probably not consistantly, but there are some physical corners who could do a nice job limiting yards after catch.
On the draft Quentin Rollins bandwagon.

Antoine Winfield could tackle anyone in the open field on the planet, Ive never seen a CB tackle like that.

byroanAdministratorLast time Marshall played against Revis, he had 5 catches for 55 yards. Didn't score but really didn't need to. Broncos won 34-17.
