Well, some of you had him on your want list... yesterday, the Raider receiver was traded to the Carolina Panthers. Panthers are looking to bolster their wr position (again). They gave up an undisclosed conditional draft pick. Also yesterday, the Jets acquired T Jeff Otah from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for (you guessed it) an undisclosed draft pick. Otah is a stud when healthy. But has only started 29 games in his four year career. He missed all of the 2010 season with a knee injury. And played in only four games last year before going on IR again due to the knee. Personally, if the Panthers were willing to cut him loose I'd reckon he'll never be the same player he was.
The Jets remind me of the Raiders in their willingness to take risks on talented players with injuries, age or character concerns in the hopes of catching lightening in a bottle.
its a big IF but when he is healthy he is a top 10 RT out there, so to me, it suckz that the jets got this guy
I'd much rather the Jets have tried to go with Wayne Hunter. I hate to hope a guy is injured but one way or another I do hope Otah plays as much for them this year as he's played for the Panthers the last two years which is to say minimally.
Absolutely. Damien Woody comes to mind... and ironically happened to be their RT during their playoff run. Wayne Hunter is not even starter quality. If I'm being unbiased on this one... The Jets acquiring Otah is an excellent move... now I need to go wash my mouth out as I just tasted my lunch for the second time.
Yeah, but the problem is that they will be relying on an offensive-lineman that has had problems staying healthy. There are positions you can get away with doing that, but I'm not sure tackle is one of them.
Otah is great at holding when pass blocking. Some of the best head locks that I've seen applied to Wake, came from Otah.
Otah back to the Panthers. http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/2012/07/source-jets-wont-be-keeping-ot-jeff-otah
