Crossman was long overdue.
Interesting enough, the special teams unit tends to be a microcosm of the overall quality of depth in a given roster.
It is possible that when a GM may have failed to equip the team with capable backup linemen, linebackers, safeties and skill positions the special teams coordinator, serves as a nice scapegoat. For example, I, Eddie Jones, fearful of losing my job because I’ve failed to fill out a roster with adequate talent, may opt to run Mike Westoff out of town and scapegoat him for an underperforming special teams unit, and close the case there.
