http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/09/10/2400568/daboll-finally-gets-chance-to.html In Cleveland, Daboll’s offense finished worse in 2011 than Miami’s 30th ranked scoring offense. The Browns’ dismal unit – which ranked 31st in points per game, 29th in total offense, 20th in rushing offense and 29th in passing offense – was among the reasons for the firing of coach Eric Mangini, subsequently also leading to Daboll’s departure. I'm still skeptical, guess we find out soon enough.
I just have this feeling that he is the right man for the job. I know I haven't seen much to comment just yet, but I am already convinced that he is the real deal.
Can't say I was thrilled with the signing of Daboll, but you know what? The reason we got Henning in the first place was because we were too afraid to go with a young unknown so we went with a safe dinosaur. give em hell Daboll!
How can the Browns have had Hillis, and finished 20th in rushing? That is mind boggling, I guess he missed starts or missed games due to injuries. Anywho, better talent in Miami (imo) and it's a new yr, I think falling into the trap of "well, last yr" does not make much sense as each yr is totally different for several reasons.
Careful there... you might entice the Monty Python foot to fall from the sky and inadvertently excite Jaba the Ryan.
Hillis started every game of the season Hillis had more bad/mediocre games rushing He was either hot or cold Tampa...41 yards KC......35 yards rushing Atlanta...28 yards rushing Pittsburgh..41 yards rushing New Orleans...69 yards rushing Jacksonville...48 yards rushing Miami....57 yards rushing Cinn.....59 yards rushing Baltimore...35 yards rushing Pittsburgh...13 yards rushing 10 games he averaged a bit over 40 yards per game rushing
Yeah as a fantasy owner of hillis i remember getting quite annoyed with him. If anyone is in danger of falling off the map entirely this season, its payton hillis. He's just no where near the stud people think he is.
Poor receivers meant that Hillis saw 8 or 9 men in the box all the time, kinda like when Ricky Williams was here under Wannstadt with no deep threat. Also outside of Joe Thomas their OL isn't that great.
IMO Cleveland's offense lacked complementary talents. I harped on that about Miami the last few seasons. This year they diversified the talents on the offense so I'm pleased with the direction they're taking. In addition to having complementary talents, the team needed an OC who was willing and able to use those diverse talents. I think Daboll has demonstrated a willingness to use what he has both in Cleveland and in the preseason. IMO that was the key and what all the critics of the signing missed by just looking at the stats.
That actually makes me feel better as I've been kicking myself for taking Ahmad Bradshaw over Hillis in my fantasy draft. Either one was expected to be my third back (maybe fourth if Tim Hightower blows up) so it may not matter much depending on my team's health, but I've still be bummed about it.
Results I feel will be roughly the same.. I hope I am wrong, but this man was horrible at adjustments during the games for Cleveland. In the East he will constantly be looking at stiff defensive units and blitz packages. I hope to hell we got plenty of screens ready for this year.. Oh and and a backup for Bush WHEN he gets hurt in the first 3 weeks..
4 games v the Ravens and Steelers with no Wr's and a super poor Qb play? I think those guys tend to adjust their schemes on D as well, and arguably have even more talent on defense then us or the Jest.
Well, to me I think Henning, and really Parcells, should get a bit more credit Des, as fans we live yr by yr, as a Franchise you have to have some context, the 25-23 over the last 3 yrs has been the most successful stretch for the Dolphins since Wanny in the early 00's. I do believe it was time to move on from both of their expertise, roster rebuilt, mission accomplished, it was time to sweep out the to conservative approach to things and try to take the next step up the food chain, I suspect Henning never bought into Henne, but he did champion for Pat White, and that speaks volumes. Heard some "expert" going on about "Vinny Testaverde did not develop until he was under Henning", moron apparently erased Vinny T's success with the Browns under Belichek.
