3 weeks in a row is not a fluke.....good bye Dan we need a kicker that can produce!!

Not only that Miami doesn't have the room to take the salary cap hit from Carpenter. I believe he signed a 4 year $8 million deal. So you'd have to eat 2 years of signing bonus + cap to date.....plus find room for another kickers salary.

WOW..bad situations when he WAS golden from those kicks in the past. You are a true political guy not answering any questions but asking more questions. So let me ask you this....would you have put him in those situations to kick if you were the coach big boy? And if So if he cost you those games would you not be looking for options?Click to expand...

It was a 53 yard FG, not like he missed a 25 yard field goal or an extra point. If we want to work out kickers fine or replace him in the offseason fine. However it's ridiculous to think we should just cut him and sign someone off the street.

And no, I would not have put him out there to kick that 53 yarder. No I wouldn't have packed it in and called 3 runs to set him up for a 47 yard FG in the Jets game. And no, I would not cut Carpenter without knowing that there's a guy out there who can come in and do better.Click to expand...RevRick likes this. -

Does anyone think that if there were some magic kicker sitting at home who hits 50+ yard kicks with ease....that he would actually be sitting at home. If there was someone better....wouldn't he likely be kicking here or somewhere else aready?

It confuses me how many people think there are just a bunch of FA kickers sitting on their couches who can walk in and start booming 50+ yard kicks every time.Click to expand...

It confuses me how some people are going to try to use the "name someone else out there" turtle defense when carp needs to gtfo. I don't study FA kickers, but that doesn't mean he doesn't need to hit the road any less.Click to expand...

The past two games his misses have come from beyond 50 yards I believe... I don't think cutting him would be a good idea.

Yeah, I've had enough of the guy. His consistent inconsistency beyond 40 yards is now pathetic. I don't trust the guy to make 35 yarders at this point. Who's out their who's better? Well, almost anyone considering Carp's numbers this season. Kickers are streaky. Year in and out they come and go. Time for this one to go.

Carpenter should of been replaced in the preseason IMHO.
I get the money issue and I also get that we had bigger holes to fill. I will say this much though, I saw this coming from a long way off. When we can, we need to find a better kicker. Who knows he may turn things around in the mean time but from what I have seen, he isnt the clutch guy with icewater in his veins that he was billed as being. -
Why wouldn't you not trust him to make a 35 yarder when he hasn't demonstrated that he can't?Click to expand...

For the sake of argument, though, Ryan Longwell is sitting at home eating Cheeto's at the moment.
He's a historically elite kicker, but his last season was mediocre. He also kicked in a dome.
Another guy, who I think never really got a chance, is Rhys Lloyd. He has a hell of a leg; up there with Janikowski. If I recall, Carolina actually carried two kickers and used Lloyd as a kickoff specialist, and he was automatic touchback 100% of the time. I'm confused on why they never let him try field goals. He has potential.
I'm just saying...but yeah, we should stick with Carpenter for now  -
Think the Packers are going to cut Crosby after today's game? :wink2:

I know he missed the 53 yarder but his neither of his kicks sliced this time. I guess they corrected whatever he was doing poorly the previous two games.
PS- UF has a hell of a kicker. Maybe we could try to draft him year if nothing else works out. -
It would be worth looking into what kickers are available, but you don't cut Carp until you feel you have a guy that can be expected to do a better job. If he struggles through the next three games then you think about making a change just on the hope the new guy can do a better.

Im only bringing this up because it was back in July. Carpenter has been a disappointment. Im not saying cut him instantly but to not acknowledge his shortcomings is equally wrong.Click to expand... -

except he doesn't have a weak leg. He's kicking them plenty far enough. He's just hooking them.Click to expand...
True and I did adress that point in a later post. He did have a leg strength issue but he has seemed to of corrected it. There was a time before the rules change that he struggled to kick it through the back of the endzone on kickoffs -

LOL I get it, your gonna go down defending Carpenter till the bitter end. Have fun with that.
I was only pointing out that Carpenter has been a concern for me prior to this season. I hope he turns things around but as of right now he is not clutch. -

I'll defend him as long as people are leveling unfair criticism against him. So far you've said he lacks leg strength which is untrue and blamed him for not being able to kick the ball out of the end zone which wasn't something a lot of kickers could do anyway. If you want to say he's not clutch that's fine. I don't know that's wholly true as he's only missing 45+ yard field goals and those have a low percentage of success anyway, but I wont argue with it as I have no proof to the contrary. Your other 2 points are complete fallacy though.Click to expand...
With all due respect
I say he isnt clutch because of last years kicks and I might of acctually started noticing it two seasons ago but I would have to go back and look on that. He lets himself get ratteled and he struggles to get his mojo back once he is rattled. That is my observation of him. I bring up his legth strength because even though he has seemed to improve it I wonder if the reason he is struggling with his accuracy on these long FGs is because it takes every bit of his leg to get it there and he loses concentration on aiming his kicks. -
Make the kicks
