Just came across this on You Tube. Pretty cool soundtrack to go along with a pretty cool best of reel. Has there ever been anyone who threw a better pass twenty yards and up?

Man..no doubt the greatest of all time. I wish he is still playing.

Man, that four wide formation with a twin bunch in the slot was strange. Some great times, though.

That hasn't happened once since Marino. Not once! The closest was the pass to Camarillo from Henne on that all out blitz against Jets. However that was more, "Wow, he actually did something a good quarterback supposed to do"
Watching that video reminds me how much I have been happy lately with mediocrity. Which was Pennington's gameplay last year and first year starter mediocrity this year with Henne. I hope he improves. I want greatness again.sws84, RGF, dolfan7171 and 2 others like this. -

Just makes me sad we haven't seen that kind of play since he left...I do hold hope for Henne to mature into a good QB, but he'll never be a Marino either...

I mean he made that position look so easy....when he rited I remember saying, ahhh it isnt going to be that bad, they will find somebody quickly, it isnt that hard of a position!?!?!?!??! I was sooooo wrong.....it is why I'm rooting for Peyton, he is the closest thing to Marino I have seen, and when all is said and done, will be better I believe....plus it drives Pats fans nuts when he wins.....

IMO, he was the best. NO ONE was, or will be, like Dan Marino.
I remember holding my breath with each pass, until it was caught. He could put it where ever it needed to be.
He was the greatest.
I know you guys are tough and think I'm silly, but when Shula retired and then Danny, were one of the very few times I cried over the team. there's been other times, but none as bad a then.
Plus, I heard about Shula on our dang birthday. Worst BD ever.:sad:PhinsRock, gafinfan, dolfan7171 and 1 other person like this. -
:up:With Dan in the game you knew you always had a chance to win the game. Along with Dan, I miss the Marks brothers.

The pass at 3:17 is a thing of beauty. Also, did ya notice how many times Duper, with his speed, was able to get so wide open that he was able to actually turn his back to the endzone- catch the pass in front of him,as opposed to an over the shoulder catch-and still glide into the endzone untouched. Damn,do I miss those days.

Im sorry guys, but to say he's the greatest of all time isn't fair to other QB's. I'm not sure if those on this forum actually watched Marino in his prime because in all honesty, I would put Peyton Manning up there with Marino, if not better. I understand as Fins fans there is a bias towards Marino but not at the expense of discrediting other QB's. But I will say this....Imagine our passing attack in Marino's prime paired up with the run game in Ricky William's prime. Oh......Dear......God......

Honestly, I think if you put Marino in today's system there wouldn't be a single offensive passing statistic that would stand a chance against him and defensive coordinators would wet themselves on game day.PhinsRock, dolphindebby, gafinfan and 2 others like this. -

There is a lot more to being a quarterback than going out there and throwing it to the open guy. I think Manning is much better overall. He can run an offense like nobody's business. He will actually use the running game to make the offense better. -

I'll be the first to admit I'm biased when it comes to Dan. He was, and still is, a Dolphin.
He had fire, desire and some other kind of magic that I've never seen in any other qb.
I like Manning, probably better than any other rival qb out there. But he is no Marino. The game is so different now and Dan had to practically carry the whole game alone at times.
And farve killed any respect I had for him with his crying and whinning. IMO, his goal was to stay in long enough to prove he was better than Dan. And he's not.
Duper, Clayton, Moore etc. were wonderful to watch. And Dan was like poetry in motion.
I won't argue his greatness. As "our guy", he was the greatest. He deserved a sb ring and never got one, but that will not take away from what a master he was at the game.RGF, adamprez2003, gafinfan and 2 others like this. -

Dan is a great person, loving father to his wife and children, pillar in the community and a role model for any child. I would be happy to have my kids grow up to be half the "person" he is.:up:dolphindebby, adamprez2003 and Crappy Tipper like this. -

DolfinIcons are pretty much legitimately off limits to open discussion
however
I would suggest to you there have been better NFL QB's to play the game
having said that
w/o a doubt Marino is among the greatest to play the game
PeytonManning may be the best QB & dispose of the best throwing arm in NFL history & his career is still on-going. he also calls his own plays on offense. many consider him a throw back to the great Unitas of times past. -

IMVHO Dan Marino was the best passing QB there ever was or will be. Not meaning to take anything away from Peyton, Brady or Favre, but if Dan played with the QB friendly/WR friendly rules those other names play with now, nobody would EVER even come close to what Dan would have done.
And if you put Peyton, Brady or Favre starting their careers in 1983 none of them would have been nearly as prolific as Dan. JMVHO, nice thread & vid, thanks, and thanks Dan, for all the memories.adamprez2003, dolphindebby and Crappy Tipper like this. -

I agree with you on all points. These newer qb's are good, but there will never be another Marino. Their talented, but they just don't have the "IT" factor than Danny had.adamprez2003 and PhinsRock like this. -
Can't say I'd argue with that. I have long said and thought the very same thing. Farve will quit when he holds as many QB records as he possibly can. Only problems is if you compare actual playing time to Farve....... Marino's got him in every category.

Open discussions are always welcome, just don't expect every one to be void of personal opinion or bias, that's just not going to happen on a fan site.
For example, as much as I stated my opinion Dan Marino is the best passing QB to EVER play this game, personally there have been several issues I've had with his "lofty" opinion of himself on occasion. I just don't see the value that discussion would bring to this thread. -
