Jared Veldheer. He would cost a fortune and then some more, in both picks and a new contract. I'd do it in a heartbeat. Some men are just plain better than others. Veldheer is one of those guys.

    My personal picks
    1. Bryce Brown- I love what i've seen of him in Philly
    2. Ben Tate- bruising runner, good blocker just what we need
    3. Darren McFadden- hard to give up on him even at this point
    4. Joique Bell- i'd be down with that
    5. Mark Ingram- eh, we could try it, I mean he's not getting any burn in New Orleans in that offense.
    6. MJD- I'm down with it but he would have to be 100%

Ingram is the one I was guessing, I think Pierce is very much in the long term plans in Baltimore though especially with Rice having an off year.

Philadelphia continues to be a potential hotbed of trade activity if it's an OL.

G/T Allen Barbre - 29 years old. Played for Joe Philbin in Green Bay. Started for half the 2009 season for Joe Philbin at RT. Has also played some LT and LG. Has played 17 snaps in various extra OL situations this year for Chip Kelly. The Eagles have plenty of depth here aside from Barbre and they could stand to monetize the 29 year old. They have Dennis Kelly and Matt Tobin on roster, with Michael Bamiro on the practice squad ready for a promotion any time.

LT Jason Peters - 31 years old. Lane Johnson is struggling right now at right tackle, which isn't his natural spot. Moving Jason Peters out of the mix would mean being able to move Lane Johnson over. The Jags did the same thing recently, although they lived to regret it. Again they have plenty of depth at this position as Matt Tobin and Dennis Kelly can step in at tackle any time, and Michael Bamiro can be promoted off practice squad.

OT Dennis Kelly - 23 years old. Former 5th rounder out of Purdue. Forced into action for the Eagles a lot as a rookie in 2012. Did not play well. Still on roster, was injured for most of preseason. Seems doubtful he would be the target.c

OT Matt Tobin - 23 years old. Undrafted rookie. Played LG for Iowa at a time when Dolphins receivers coach Ken O'Keefe was the offensive coordinator. Philbin has tons of connections with the program still, including the head coach who is an OL specialist like Philbin. When Kirk Ferentz' son James came out for the Draft this year and ended up undrafted, the Dolphins were one of two teams to give him a sniff. Philbin gave him an official tryout, and the Bears brought him to mini camp. The Eagles may not want to give Tobin up because he played very, very well at LT in the preseason. Yet if anything happens Jason Peters, Lane Johnson probably moves over from RT to LT and that still keeps Tobin blocked from ascending to active duty. He doesn't seem the type to play RT.

Ben Tate would probably be the best fit as a one cut runner behind a zone blocking scheme.

It's more of a line issue than Lamar issue, IMO. However, I also believe in to the "by commitee" RBs. We need a big guy to help Lamar split the carries with.

Martin goes back to RT where he is at least a minor improvement over Clabo's play so far.

Honestly I'd like to see a guy picked up for that right side. We are getting little push in the run game from that side and both RG/RT have been pretty miserable.

Ben Tate is pretty similar to Miller so I don't get the appeal there.

Joique Bell on the other hand would be a great compliment. He's very underrated imo.

    What if:
trade for Jason Peters and Daryn Colledge, move Martin and Incognito to the right side? Too madden?

I know that the temptation will be to look at Jason Peters because he's the "name" guy but keep in mind the Dolphins coaches are not likely to be fully on board with him.

Of the guys I mentioned, Allen Barbre makes the most sense.

If it's a mid-season acquisition, you're going to tend toward a guy that has an immediate basis for translation (e.g. he already played in your system before). He's been practicing in Chip Kelly's offense so the man is guaranteed to be in very good shape and is guaranteed to be able to handle fast pace on offense, which may be something the 31 year old Tyson Clabo is struggling with at the moment.

Remember, these coaches are MUCH more likely to sign off on a replacement for Tyson Clabo than Jonathan Martin. Clabo is the guy that is disappointing them most. Clabo is the guy that they've recently told needs to shape up or they're benching him. Allen Barbre played half of an NFL season for Joe Philbin at right tackle.

The down side is, he wasn't GREAT there. This season has to remind Joe Philbin of that 2009 season in some ways. During the first 8 games of the season, Rodgers was sacked an astonishing 37 times. During the final 8 games he was sacked only 12 times. Well, what changed from the first half of the season to the second half? You guessed it, Allen Barbre took every snap of the first 7 games of the season and then most of the snaps of the 8th game. He got hurt, Mark Tauscher came back in at right tackle, and Rodgers stopped being sacked so often.

But that might not be fair to Barbre. He only let up 6 of the sacks Rodgers took. Then again, he let them up in the first 5 games. How many sacks have Jon Martin and Tyson Clabo each given up? That's right, 6 sacks. In fact his 91.6 PBE on Pro Football Focus (measure of sacks, hits and pressures per snap) was only marginally higher than Clabo's this year.

Joe Philbin COULD have some mixed feelings about Allen Barbre coming back to town, on that basis.

Then again, that was Barbre's third year in the league coming from little Missouri Southern. This is now his seventh year in the NFL and it's entirely possible he's just a better football player now. Pro Football Focus gave him a +3.6 for his work in the preseason which he split between left tackle and left guard. His grade was balanced between run blocking and pass protection. His best pass protection came at left guard.

Another thing to think about is the Miami Dolphins had Allen Barbre before. They had him in 2010 and 2011. They signed him two weeks before the 2010 season ended and took him to camp in 2011. He played left tackle behind Lydon Murtha who was pushed into first team duty by an injury to Jake Long for much of camp. But Barbre himself got hurt and ended up being placed on Injured Reserve.

The thing to take away from that is, the Dolphins front office (which remains in tact) liked Barbre. There was something they liked about him enough that they wanted to sign him. It didn't work out but that was mostly because of injury. He went on injured reserve and never even got a chance to play in a preseason game. The front office will not suddenly hate a guy just because they had him and waived him and he caught on elsewhere. It has to burn Jeff Ireland mightily that he had Evan Mathis and waived him and now he's been the best guard in football for a number of years.

I can understand trading mid-season for OL help, as long as the price isn't exorbitant (and let's face it, it will be.) Trading for a running back would be a disaster, though. You aren't going to get anyone truly top-flight in the middle of the season, and frankly the only real problem with our RBs is that Daniel Thomas must have a friend who works for the NSA. Otherwise, you aren't going to change a team's fortunes or remarkably improve by adding to the RB position. You'd also be sort of waving the white flag on Miller, because if you're desperate enough to bring in a guy mid-season, you're feeding him carries to justify the addition. (Sort of like Daniel Thomas.)

I'm fearing a 3rd round pick sent for someone's right guard, with Clabo banished to the bench and Jerry moved out to RT.

    Agreed.

There are actually some decent RBs sitting on the couch right now. Cedric Benson and Michael Turner come to mind. They're both in the mold of the guy you'd want to complement Lamar Miller. I think Peyton Hillis is out there as well. All three can't be worse than Daniel Thomas and cost nothing in trade compensation.

Depends. There are rumblings that he's just not the same guy. Perhaps the foot injury is still hindering him, although he has been a bit better lately.

Part of me really wants to look at the Green Bay Packers' offensive line THIS year and see if Miami could be interested in one of those guys.

But there are a number of things in the way of that. The Dolphins could absolutely try and trade for Marshall Newhouse, who I believe has straight up lost his job to rookie David Bakhtiari. And he's not moved over to right tackle, either...because Don Barclay is holding down that spot.

But who do the Packers have to be their swing tackle if they trade Newhouse? Injuries happen. They know that better than anyone as both Derek Sherrod AND Bryan Bulaga are on injured reserve. They have only seven offensive linemen on roster right now. That's dangerously thin.

The Packers might look at trading a tackle AFTER the 2013 season...but not DURING it.

The Texans have got to be thinking about starting Ryan Harris at right tackle in place of Derek Newton at this point.

I wonder if the Dolphins would be interested in Newton. I hope not.

I would love to take a look at Ryan Harris in trade but would the Texans? That would be sort of a "burn the boats" mentality with respect to making Derek Newton work at right tackle.

Did you know that Adrian Peterson runs under 3.5 yards a carry when he runs out of a single set, with like one run over 20yards all of last year.

Of all the offensive line struggles, Clabo is easily the most disappointing. Martin is still a young player so his struggles are more understandable. Incognito is good, Pouncey is real good, and Jerry is what he is. But the Clabo signing seemed real smart at the time, but he's been brutal.

Just gotta hope the bye week allowed these guys to collect themselves and it turns their season around.
