Eh, the Chin was asked by Wayne H after the 07 season and he turned it down, so it kinda looks like Cowher is just not destined to Coach in Miami.

Conflicting reports, as other sources are saying that Miami is "wooing," Cowher. The 2007 campaign was bad timing as Bill had just walked away from the Steelers with the intent of not coaching for a couple of years, for a myriad of reasons.
Not that it will happen this time, but if the rumors of him wanting to get back in the game, us being onhis shortlist and Miami looking for anyone other than Sparano, if he doesn't come now, then yes, it is destined to not work.GARDENHEAD, DolfanJake and jetssuck like this. -
maybe cause cowher knows how hard it will be to please everyone down here. He doesnt seem that stupid to take a job in miami. I wouldn't.

I think it's pretty simple.
We give Cowher full control and lots of money, he's here.
While it's possible he's not interested but not saying so to keeping his leverage with other potential suitors, I think the price and conditions are going to be the same no matter where he lands.
IMO, meeting the price and power gets it done.gunn34, Coral Reefer, Tin Indian and 1 other person like this. -
I have no problem with giving him the control, he simply knows he can't work with Ireland their philosophies don't mesh! Cowher has a drive, commitment to excellence, and loyalty Parcells never had! Therefore I don't trust anyone associated with Parcells!

Ross needs to name Sparano the head coach today and end this fiasco

I see no reason to hire Sparano today and be done with it. Do I feel bad for Tony? Sure....he's also a millionaire several times over because of the Phins...so in the end....dangle.
Obviously Harbaugh is #1 on the list...so....why would they tell Cowher Ireland would be gone...when your first choice is ok with him.
Wait until Harbaugh is out of the picture....then see what we offer Cowher. My guess....is eventually....Ireland will be toast if infact thats what needs to happen to land either Cowher or Gruden.
Ross is going for the big guys....keeping Sparano on hand gives him more leverage.
What if Ross said to Sparano....Tony...keep the down low and let this play out...and youll see a nice fat bonus with your paycheck.Coral Reefer likes this. -

I think it shows other coaches we have a good business man for an owner.....one who isnt going to just make rash decisions.
I think this paints Ross as a great owner to be joined with. -
Some of you guys are such drama queens it seriously cracks me up.
Do you really think Miami is the highest pressure job out there?
That the fan base here is the only one that fills up sports talk airwaves with frustration?
Try NY, Philly, Dallas, Pitt, etc, etc, etc.
Any city that has a history of winning has pressure.
If you guys think Cowher would turn down the Phins job because of things said on radio and a message board by fans you're beyond help.gunn34 likes this. -

Maybe Ross is working on getting Sparano up to Michigan? He's a Rah-Rah go-team-go kinda guy that would probably work better with college kids.

Tony's results have been unacceptable.
He's in a review period and they are considering all avenues including possibly replacing him.
Happens in any business across the country.
Coaches should'nt be immune from such a process.
Do I feel bad for Tony the person? Of course but business is business.
Ross is doing complete due dilligence to make sure he feels he has the best plan going forward for success.
I would expect nothing less and respect him for doing this.SeanP likes this. -
Prior to the season ending Ross should have known if he could get another coach. Monday Sparano should have been named the coach or fired based on that knowledge. What has instead happened is we will be tied to every other available coach, get none of them and look like fools for running our team this way. And Dolfan Jake is right. Other coaches will notice this treatment of Sparano. We are coming closer to being the Raiders as far as desirable jobs by these actions

It doesn't make sense, the FO shuts all media down like its the CIA all the time on all kinds of other issues. Yet this one is up front & center and so very public. The latest is Ross is after Fisher. Who will it be next ?
By the way isn't Fisher under contract and wouldn't that be tampering if we had contact with him ? The last thing we need is to lose draft picks because we got caught tampering. -
Any ownership entitiy has a right to and is SMART to review people they have in positions of leadership if their results are not what they want.
Exploring what else is out there before making the final decision to retain mgmt. or make a change is SMART bottom line. -
Ross is doing this like a businessman, and as much as I like Tony as a person, I want my football organization ran like a fortune 500 company, not Wally's burger shack.mdscpa and Coral Reefer like this. -
I hope I'm wrong but it could be that Tony was told he would still be the HC and no one has officially told us he is being retained. He said we would hear about his plans soon enough so maybe they are working that out. Honestly I don't feel after the time that has gone by that they are going to make a change. They are keeping it on the downlow from the media and the fans. Don't hold your breath folks. -

Monday was not about retaining Sparano, Monday was Sparano interviewing for the Miami Dolphins Head Coaching position, he gave his 3 hrs long proposal and Ross filed it away, now he is looking at other candidates for the Miami Dolphins Head Coaching position.
That is what this is really all about, consider it a Head Coaching Search with Sparano holding some advantages due to the coming lockout and knowledge of his performance thus far.
This could take awhile folks. -
I think Ross is being smart not making a hasty decision. He isnt going to can Sparano until he has another HC in place.

Back to the topic of Cowher.
I fully believe that Cowher wants complete control and no GM input.
That to me is a complete deal breaker.
I don't care who he is.
That situation didn't even work under our most cherished coach ever Shula and it was a disaster of epic proportions under Wanny.
No reason to revisit a leadership structure that arguably is the biggest single reason the Phins franchise has suffered the past 15 years. -
Well maybe I'm wrong but dont we need to overhaul our offensive coaches. I mean we have a off coordinator, qb coach, rb coach, ol coach and wr coach to find. I would like to have a shot at our first choices

Oh wait, something his team already has become. -
Dude, I have NO PROBLEM WITH HIS LOOKING ! HE SHOULD ! I WANT SPARANO GONE ! Its the way its being done. So very publicly ! You don't let your business be aired in public, and if it is, you LIE EVEN to defuse it. You do a Nick Saban if you have too ! This to me is making Ross look like an assclown, and other teams owners are just chuckling at us, and HC's and other coaches are too, and shaking their heads looking at Sparanos position, and saying if I am working for that man, someday that could be me too ! No way I look at Miami unless its the last resort. -

How is Stephen Ross supposed to control what a bunch of idiots post on Twitter? -

It could be they think the public is so stupid that all they have to do is let some time go by and then we can tell them you are staying Tony, and they will be all okay with it. All those people threatening to not buy season tix next year will forget their anger and then we can roll out Henne and Sparano next year and they'll fill the stadium again because their memories are short. -
