NFLN video: Garrard says that after he was named starter and tore his knee, he remembers Tannehill coming into meetings as a rookie and taking command, going through plays, etc. Has great respect for Tannehill. Says he still has some mechanical things to work on, but recognizes Tannehill's athleticism. Short video, with only a couple of examples. Link: HERE
i watched 5 days strait of ryans rookie camp....he was clearly the best qb on the field, and completely looked in charge, pretty bad ***.
Why does every comment have to be a zero-sum game? It's just insight and opinions and yet everyone wants to jump on-board and scream, "See, I'm right! This proves it!" Truth is, it doesn't really matter that any one individual is right. This is a forum, a place to share opinions, there are no prizes for being right, and even if there were, we're talking about football here - something that's for enjoyment. At the end of the day, you sit down (or stand up - right DJ?) and watch the game and try to enjoy it. Insight is nice, being right is nice, but ultimately they're irrelevant. Not aiming at anyone in particular, just offering a little perspective. "It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice", might be adapted here to say, "It's nice to be right, but it's more right to be nice."
lol, facts, you say? Ok, show me in this thread where anyone made any claims about Garrad's statements being fantastic or valid........I mean it should be easy since you got all butt hurt about it... I'll wait..... When you're done, explain how you getting butt hurt over something that didn't happen makes me the emotional one and not you.
I took this thread being started just to give the opinion of another guy. I didn't see anyone say that Garrard was some sort of genius for making that statement.
Hmmm. DG says RTH is a franchise QB, but can we trust him? I mean, I know he was a starting QB in the NFL and all, and actually played/worked with Tannehill in person... but really, what does HE know? It's obvious that the Wallace experiment didn't work because Tannehill sucks, and his franchise records and seasons stats were all a facade created by the illuminati. Someone should break it to him.
Definitely seems to get lazy with his footwork, relying too much on his arm strength sometimes. Unless it really was all Wallace, I think he needs to tweak his mechanics on deep pass.
My point is though why was Captain D-Bag Brian Hartlines opinion any less when he was around him 3 more years than David?? How is that being objective vs picking and choosing? And for the record I agree more with Garrard than BH.
No, I'm not a homer. I don't think Tannehill is the greatest QB in the league, much less of all time. I think the defense was terrible last year. I thought the receivers, overall, were underwhelming. You call me a homer because I take issue with the undue criticisms some had/have of Tannehill, and the ridiculous notions some have concerning win/loss records and playoff appearances.
By the measure they couldn't seem to get off the field on third down...that third and long was easily completed them...that they couldn't get pressure when they needed it...that they couldn't stop Green Bay from getting a td when GB had no timeouts. They were a fraudulent defense last year.
Trying to find on-topic posts in this thread and feelin' like...
FO ranked our 2014 offense at #8. They ranked our defense as the #25 "Weighted Defense" based on Defense-adjusted Value Over Average (DVOA) by the end of the season, down from #17 in 2013. http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/teamdef
I don't like the "Weighted Defense" theory. ALL games matter... However, I do agree that our defense stunk last year.
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...of-ryan-tannehills-season-20141230-story.html Here's a bunch stats on Tannehill from last season. Worth a read.
Wait, in the other thread, in arguing if he was "average" or not, we were told his ypa over his last 13 games was 7.34 ... good enough for 14. Which is about average! Oh my. Hmm, never noticed that. I should have, in the splits.
Not sure what Tannehill's 3rd down numbers have to do with the defense, but since you're always lazy about looking up stuff, here: 3rd downs: 84 of 148, a 57% comp%. 894 yards, 5 TDs, 77.4 QBR Not surprisingly, 3rd and long pressure situations drove the numbers down. 3rd and short, the comp% was 63% and 3 of the 5 TDs.
I think the issue is people pointing at sub-7ypa and trying to act like Tannehill hasn't improved. The point is, he was above a 7 for 2/3 of the season.
Of course they all count, but it demonstrates the trend that the defense was declining over time. I was most happy with the offensive ranking as it showed the offense was going in the opposite direction, which is what we all want.
Ryan was below average on 3rd downs and the 4th Qtr, the defense was below average on 3rd down and the 4th qtr. I mean....what. Both units were average and so was the team, whats with the blame game?
Because anyone taking the time and looking anything up has ever changed a mind in this debate. Idc if you or anyone else disagrees, Ryan needs to get better bottom line.
Which was good for 14th, even cherry picking it to be the best number possible. Which places him ... right in the middle.
You really, REALLY, going here again.....We just sacked/stripped the ball from Rodgers,he recovered though...4th and 17.....Rodgers is desperate..No timeouts, chaos on the field....What is he gonna do?.....Oops,hold on...his old OC from Green Bay bails him out by calling timeout,Miami.....very,very suspicious if you ask me..What does Rodgers do? He is able to regroup everyone after the timeout and completed a first down pass..then your boy calls another t.o. to help the pack get the win.
Do you factor receiver's ability to create yards after catch into your evaluation, or is it solely on the QB to generate YPA in your view?
I'm fine for 14th rated QB last year.m it's just what I hoped he'd grow into last year. Last year I predicted he'd finish just inside top 15. This year, in 2nd year under Lazor and a more suitable WR corps I fully expect a top 10 QB, maybe 8th or 9th
Huh? My boy? What are you going on about? The defense allowing receiver the sideline...how about that?
"My Boy?" Seriously... The man is almost 20 years older than you, and has probably forgotten more than you ever knew about the NFL. Have a little respect...
