Revis is overrated. Take away his safety binky and he's human. Hell, he's human even with the constant safety help.

Emote all you want, it's true. Revis on his own is good, but not an island. Revis with safety help is better, but still not an island. Revis with two helpers is better still, but has been known to get beaten by the likes of Randy Moss and Ted Ginn.

The title of "best cornerback in football" is a close call between Nnamdi Asomugha and Charles Woodson. Revis is on the outside looking in on that discussion.

Except his own defensive coordinator admits he's getting help. Revis Island only exists if you conveniently set aside the facts that Revis is not acting alone and that he gets beaten at the worst possible time for his team. Nnamdi Asomugha is more of an island than Revis is, considering that he basically shuts down half of the field on a terrible Raiders defense.

More related to the topic though, Ferguson isn't in the Thomas/Long/Clady category of elite LTs. He's in the second tier with guys like Oher, Gaither, and Baker.

Revis is the best CB available to the Jestsss. He is far and away better than anybody else on their roster....and better than any of the CB's on our team for that matter.
They don't have a choice, they HAVE to resign him. Their entire defensive scheme is crap without him.
Dansby isn't the top MLB in the league, but I have zero issue with us paying him what we did. We will be much better in the long run.

Revis might not be the best CB in the league, but he is definately the best in our division and top 5.

 

I think Revis specifically is helped by the Jets' scheme, inasmuch as the defensive coordinator has said it. Players who watched tape on the Jets confirmed it. Ochostinko in particular laid a press bomb when he said Revis was getting safety help--the NY media didn't like that too much, because the Revis Island myth had already been born.

Please point out where I've contradicted this notion. I've said that Revis is on the outside looking in at the top two CBs in the NFL, Asomugha and Woodson. That means Revis is the third best CB in the NFL, which puts him in the top five.

He's very good on his own, but the fact is that he gets safety help so often that they might as well the same jersey, siamese twin style.

My argument is that Revis cannot be the best cornerback in the game if he's consistently getting help as a matter of defensive scheme. It's like saying Steve Breaston is a good wide receiver because he had Larry Fitzgerald drawing coverage on one side and Anquan Boldin drawing coverage on the other. Just because you've got help that makes you look better doesn't mean you actually are that good.

Asomugha is the best CB in the NFL. Charles Woodson is a close second. They comprise the top tier of NFL CBs. Revis is at the top of the second tier.

EVERYONE has help against Randy Moss. If you're a DC and you are not running bracket coverage against Randy Moss, you deserve a pink slip and a kick in the ***. I wouldn't run with the fact that Revis had help against a player in a single game. He's pretty damn good IMO. He and Asomugha are right up there.

 

that is just silly talk. Revis is Amazing, I could only hope that either of our young DBs can evolve into having the skill set he pocesses. If he was ion our team we would be calling hiom Key Revis.

with that being said Asomugha, Revis, Bailey(older) and woodson(older) are in the top. and right behind them are the Halls, clements. But those four have elite talent and there should be no question about that.

Clady's not with Thomas and Long either IMO. Those two guys are up there alone. Besides that, I think that the Jets did overpay for Ferguson but its something that they, IMO, had to do. They had to pay a guy. Once you get a good left tackle, you don't let him walk IMO. You keep him. You're probably going to overpay but it's going to happen because of the position he plays. They never come cheap.

 

Not to mention when Greene gets hurt.....again.
I had a list of players that will be FA's after this year.
Along with Mangold and Revis, I believe it includes 18 other players....and yes Crayon Edwards is one...as is David Harris IIRC.
They really are set up with a one year window of opportunity.

Not only is he a great cover corner, but he tackles like a linebacker and rarely ever gives up YAC.

I certainly think he's overrated and his asking of 20M per year is proof of that, but I don't think Charles Woodson is anywhere near where Revis is now

 

Charles Woodson is pretty damn good IMO. I think anyone could put in a good argument that he was the best cornerback the last two years. He can do anything and everything. I've seen the guy line up at safety in the middle of a game because the original starter got injured and Charles did well. He's very, very good IMO.

 

Awesome, the better LT is now a bargain, I'm glad we got him when we did.

Except Vontae Davis for some reason. And he still managed to outjump Moss twice.(and got burned a couple of times but he he's a rookie who's Safety "help" was Gigarbage.)

Revis is great, but a large part of his success has to do with how great of a schemer Rex Ryan is.

I disagree. Clady is a franchise LT. Even if you don't think he's up with Thomas and Long you've got to put him at at the head of the next tier down. That guy is excellent.

Why does no one read what I post? Seriously, why? I said Revis is the third best corner and took issue with the "Revis is #1" and "Revis Island" BS. He is not the best corner in football and he is not an island.

 

Slightly off topic, and I will comment on it in a minute, but if the defensive scheme is built around Revis and that's what's needed to make him as good as he is then that's a successful coaching job by their defensive co-ordinator and those things have to be taken into account as good planning.

With that said, I don't count him among the best CB's in the league (Asomugha, Woodson like you said), but I do count him among the better CB's in the league.

Schematically or not he's getting the job done and will provide major issues for us. Except he'll need more help because of Brandon Marshall :hi5:
