Yeah, he's going to fight arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. But the dude's gotta come up two weight classes to do it. Heck, he was 3 weight classes lower until his last fight. IMO Oscar's slacking a bit, going after 'names' that he has a physical advantage over. An eighth grader fighting the baddest 5th-6th graders around. He wants no part of anybody his own size (Antonio Margarito). He tried to get Ricky Hatton to come up from 140 to do it. Hatton said he felt the size difference against Mayweather at 147 and went back down. So Oscar wants to buy another go-round? Fight is expected to gross $100 million. I've always rooted for Oscar, but I hope Manny takes him out. http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=3558298
You mean spared boxing fans another disappointing fight? That fight wasn't competitive. Mayweather dominated him. Travesty that the score was that close. Yet with one fight in the 18 months since, against a relative journeyman, we're supposed to believe that 35 year old Oscar can stay with him this time? Plus if Mayweather is tired of boxing, who can blame him? Nah, this is Oscar's last fight (again). He wants some kind of advantage. Surely he won't fight anyone bigger. And 154 is devoid of an opponent. But right there at 147 is Margarito. If it was really about the challenge, that's who he'd fight. That's the baddest dude out there. Coming off his KO of Cotto, it'd be a huge fight. Two Mexicans. Margarito continues to call him out. And Oscar, like most everyone else, ducks him. Obviously Cotto is out of the question right now. But I'd have liked to have seen that fight too. I think he and Margarito would both beat Oscar.
Ok the fight is tomorrow. I'm a huge boxing fan but no matter how hard I try - I just can't get excited about this fight. I see it as a huge mismatch and advantage DLH. He's just too big for Pacquiao. If the bad blood that exists between DLH and Bob Arum still exists - Oscar will be out for blood. At the same time - I just can't see Top Rank doing this to their top dog in Manny. So - I think boxing fans in attendance and those who decide to fork over their hard earned $60 will get treated to an exhibition tomorrow night where both guys come out looking good and one wins by decision. The reason why I say this is because I can't fathom Bob Arum letting his top dog step into the ring and get destroyed by his nemesis Oscar. This is strictly a business/money fight for Top Rank and Golden Boy. DLH is a coward and should have given a shot to Margarito. That's the fight fans wanna see.
I agree. It's a total mismatch. Not a fair fight. You see time and time again what happens when guys come up in weight to challenge bigger fighters. Guys like Pacquiao with the good KO power and speed have that speed negated by the weight gain. And the power doesn't translate. I don't Manny will go all the way to 147, but he has to gain some weight for the fight. And I expect his speed to suffer. Oscar is probably going to be close to 160 on fight night. I gotta believe he'll have about a 15-pound advantage in the ring, in addition to the 4 inches height. I plan on getting a table and spending my $60 on food/drinks rather than the fight itself. I think it's gonna be a decision or DLH by KO. Manny can't KO him IMO.
I tend to agree with Hopkins assesment on this one as well as yours - DLH by late TKO. I'm going to be pissed when I see it but I think it's inevitable. Manny is 100% offense and I fear him lunging in like he usually does and getting caught by one of Oscar's left hooks. The straight right will be there all night too. Manny is not hard to find.
They just weighed in awhile ago. Pacquiao: 142 pounds de la Hoya: 145 pounds Word was that Oscar was struggling to stay at 147. Check out Teddy Atlas calling Oscar on making the fight. Picks Pacquiao. De La Hoya Vs. Pacquiao - ESPN Video
At this point, not even Tom Cruise vs. George Clooney would save boxing. And believe me, a lot of people would tune in hoping for a double KO.
Teddy Atlas just picked Manny by decision. Said that Oscar is a good at a lot of things and one of them is figuring out a way to lose in big fights. He also brought up the point that Forbes puffed up DLH pretty good so imagine what Manny can do to him. Yet he prefaced all of this by saying that DLH is the bigger guy and if he can hurt Manny early then it will be a long night for Pac-Man. My heart says Manny by decision but my brain is still leaning towards the coward DLH by late stoppage. And on he goes to a rematch with Trinidad.
All the pre event hype is that Manny P will have the speed regardless of weight....I will be shocked if that is true....but......if......its true, then Oscar D. may be in for a surprise.
dont know there specifics but like Lampley said....last time that dude will be invited back from Argentina to Vegas....hahaahaha
Tonight's weights. De La Hoya - 147 Pacquiao - 148.5 Wow. Will be interesting to see if Manny's speed carries over at this weight. But man, Manny will be the heavier guy tonight.
Wow, another 1st round fight could be over!!!! Resto got rocked (2 knock downs) by Ortiz several times on straight jabs.
I picked the first link in the MMA TV list (sopcast)...but any of them theroetically should work.....basically its several options that are streaming. make sure you have the client software, etc.
For each of the options you may end of choosing, etc, "sopcast, TVU, TVants, etc"....all of them are available right off the software tab across the top. Just download and run, then you can come back to the fight, click the respective link and it will lauch the client app. cool?
