Winston is the real target. Mckinney was being used by Ireland to drive the price down. Winston just fits the scheme of what we do and we have been back and fourth with him. Typically if ireland loses interest you dont hear anymore about a guy.
signed top fa, traded up in draft to take best pass rusher, took some courage to do what he did with lb's as well...hardly afraid to pull the trigger.
Chad Johnson is still available wonder if he could try out for a measly million at LT we could save some cap room and get a veteran. (Joking of course). I think they played a poker hand with Long expecting him to go else where on purpose either lower his price or walk all along.
I wouldn't go that far. You don't make a contract offer to someone if you don't really want him. IMO he probably offered him a contract that would leave room for another veteran signing as insurance or allow him to be cut with little ramification should the Dolphins trade for a better option.
I just get tired of reading all the speculation here of some underlying reason why Jake signed with the Rams and not us. There is NO underlying reason. It was guarantees made by the Rams that Miami did not.
I don't think we want a LT. Martin was our LT all along after they drafted him. I just hope we don't continue to think a really good OT will fall out of a team after cuts and we can sign one then. That could come back and bite us real hard.
Somewhat Dramatic? EGAD! It started off hyperbolic, and then went strait to Ludicrous Speed! Everyone is taking as an act of faith that Martin is going to be worthless, it seems. We don't know Jack Squat about that, or who is out there that the 'Phins management is looking at, or who might be dropped after June 1 (actually, not metaphorically!) or who might come open for trades later on (Follow the bouncing Yul Brynner - etc., etc., etc.) Now, for everyone who just has to have it...
I applaud him for not signing Long. They are re-hauling. At this point money is an issue. Obviously they'd like to improve Oline at the right piece and price, but they are OK with pieces they have. They are trying to improve, at the right price, can't fault him for players who've decided to sign for more.
Add to that, Long couldn't wait to get out of here either...that was apparent, despite his wife's twitter following...
