I don't know how true this is, but we'd rather overpay for a known Smith, than slightly overpay for an unknown Flynn if it is.

If I'm Alex Smith I sign that as soon as they present it. He isn't getting that anywhere else including San Fran.
Put me down as one of the few who really like the signing, except the money involved.ToddsPhins and mullingan like this. -
How does the Denver Post know?

He is not worth that much.

Like I said in the other thread I believe almost every single QB in the league is a system guy. You build an offense around their strengths and weaknesses. I don't think there are even five guys I wouldn't consider system QB's. Sure some guys have fewer weaknesses than others but if you don't match a player to a system that fits him he will not have success.
Honestly I can't think of a guy available to us (including Flynn) who fits the Philbin offense better than Smith.ToddsPhins likes this. -

IMHO Alex Smith's best years are still ahead. I like Matt Moore, but Matt wasn't a #1 overall pick. Smith might not have been worthy of that #1 selection, but he had to have some talent and ability to be drafted that highly. Personally, I like the player he grew into as the season progressed. That's definitely not the same Alex Smith we saw years 1 through 6.
He beat Brees in an outstanding playoff performance, so what's to say he couldn't do the same in Miami if we hypothetically met NO in the Super Bowl? -
I am not getting my hopes up. he will resign with San Fran.

Has the Denver media been right about anything?

After being exposed to Harbaugh he just seems to have a better understanding and grasp of the game and decision making ability. We might've missed out on Harbaugh (although I don't think we ever had him to begin with), perhaps the silver lining becomes us getting a QB that he helped turn around who moves on to have his best days in Miami. :knucks:
I will say--- I feel significantly more comfortable and happier about Smith than I do Flynn, where as excitement for Flynn would've been based on my trust in Philibin's assessment. I'd actually buy a Smith jersey as soon as some Asian company reproduces it, but I would've held out a while on Flynn. -

First their OC was a sure thing to be our coach, then Manning was a done deal to them. -

What I saw last season was a team treating Smith like a rookie. I am not put off by that simply due to the fact that he never got a chance to settle in like one. He was thrown directly into a fire from the moment he was selected. His confidence was destroyed early on and last season he finally had a coach that said "You know what? I'm going to build a game plan around you and allow you to regain some of that confidence back. We will allow you to grow into this system rather than expect you to carry this team"
I honestly expect there to be the growth of a rookie QB to a second year starter in Smith next season. This is his first REAL opportunity to show what he is capable of. He never had a real chance at success early on. As my sig says if I am wrong I will eat my hat. -
