Depth Chart/Post Draft

I believe he will start. He'll take some early lumps but I believe in the kid. He was my favorite Dolphin pick. Ironically my GML draft turned out 3 Dolphin picks :)

Round 1 - Pick 32 Stephon Tuitt, DT, Notre Dame
Round 3- Pick 75 Terrence Brooks, FS, Florida State
Round 3- Pick 90 Billy Turner, OT, North Dakota State (Dolphin)
Round 6- Pick 189 Lorenzo Taliaferro, RB, Coastal Carolina
Round 7- Pick 205 Eddie Lackey, LB, Baylor

Almost would have been 4. I spent the entire end of the 4th and through the 5th trying to trade CB Jeremy Lane so I could draft Arthur Lynch.

As for the rest of that depth chart. Our reserves are going to get quite the revamp. I see 5-6 UDFA with a real solid shot at making this roster. Also that WR battle is going to be awesome. I hope these guys really step it up cause we might have some trade bait at the end of preseason with those guys.

Do you guys see any real competition for punt and KR duties?

What about a legitimate red zone threat?? and please....nobody say Arthur Lynch; he has 31 inch arms.

I guess you didn't see my correction in the prior thread where you spread that misinformation. Not sure where you got that but Lynch has 32 1/2" arm length and 10 1/8" hands.

I'd assume part of the depth WR battle will be seeing who can show ability in the return game.

That seems about right to me.

I tend to imagine they will be shifting the linebackers, though. Misi to MLB, Ellerbe to WLB, and Wheeler to SLB.

Looks to me like the best chance for competition for return duties might be RB Damien Williams; apparently he has great hands and decent speed. Anybody know if he has any wiggle?

I don't have any opinions on Tripp as a prospect, but he's a 5th round small-school rookie. I think expecting him to start in general is a long-shot, much less this year.

Seems about right. I do agree with Disgustipate that there could very well be a shift among the LBs. It seems like a pretty big leap of faith on Dennis Hickey/Joe Philbin to believe that just by hiring Mark Duffner that keeping all three between Wheeler, Ellerbe, and Misi will suddenly give that unit a drastic uptick.

I also think some of the UDFAs - Brock Jensen, Gator Hoskins, Anthony Johnson and maybe Derrell Johnson (long-shot), have a decent chance of making the 53 man roster. Derrell Johnson is probably more a practice squad guy though. I think he could be worth developing.

Misi is the best LB of the bunch and should be given a strong shot in the middle. And the other two, as demonstrated last year, are weak links. I think Jenkins could be pretty competitive to start and I also think Jordan will be tried at SLB. You have to get him on the field (whether starting RDE or SLB). I think Tripp will likely be a STer and then the following year compete for a starting role.

That is certainly a scary thought saying that Misi is the best LB on the roster. To me, Misi is a very average LB who would probably have trouble earning a starting spot on the better teams in the NFL. In fact I think right now, the Dolphins have one of the worst LB corps in the entire NFL.

Over the past two off seasons, the Dolphins have taken steps backwards in their LB corp and in their secondary. Other than Grimes, I don't see a single player in either of these two units which are quality type starters in the NFL. After the 2012 season I would have included Jones in with Grimes, but his play dropped off quite a bit last year after signing his new contract.

Roster is Starting to take shape.

Still nervous about the DB depth. If Finnegan or Grimes go down, we're in trouble.
Some Carroll insurance would have been nice.

Those are legit points. I think Misi is pretty average as well, but serviceable and think he might be the best run stopper in the middle of any LB on the roster at the moment. I do have hopes for Jenkins and Jordan if they put him at OLB. That could shore things up with Tripp. But, I generally agree our LB corps, while it could really improve, is very weak as it stands (esp. if we put the same three in place as last year).

I don't for the life of me understand why there is so much consternation over the arm length of a 5th round tight end.

What is it with you being unable to deal with being WRONG. 32.5 is the OFFICIAL combine measurement. When people look back for measurements they don't look back to the Senior Bowl (which makes frequent mistakes)...they look to the combine. In fact National Football Post got it wrong as EVERY other website reported his arm length at the Senior Bowl was measured at 31 7/8th's. It's like you scoured the internet looking for the smallest length report you could :lol: Combine is the official record. Deal with it and move on.

I think Gator Hoskins has a shot to make the team. All he does is catch TD passes. That's not a bad rep. He is not super fast (4.75) but does have pretty good leaping ability - 36.5 at 253. So, not bad.

Seems like the logical thing to do would be wait to see how he does in training camp before making bold proclamations like that. None of us know yet whether or not he is a wasted pick. Not even you.

Why weren't we interested in Asamoah and Schwartz when free agency was on?

I know Turner can play and is going to be good but why go in to the draft with these gaping holes and then be interested in a completely washed up veteran who was never that great to begin with.

I'd rather have Travelle Wharton on a one or two year deal.

One is a TE. The other is a LB.
