The Broncos reportedly hope to use one of their late-round draft picks to acquire Jets DT Dewayne Robertson. Trade talks between the Jets and Denver picked up again recently and will likely continue into late April. The Jets aren't going to keep Robertson on the roster, so they should be happy to get anything in return for him. http://rotoworld.com/content/home_NFL.aspx
update Newsday's Tom Rock is "told" that the Broncos already have a new contract for DT Dewayne Robertson in place. Rock guesses that the Broncos and Jets will work out a draft-day deal, most likely involving a second-day pick. The second day now involves rounds three through seven, but it's doubtful the Jets could get more than a fifth-rounder. Source: Newsday http://www.rotoworld.com/content/home_NFL.aspx
Amen. They really need to get this done on or before draft day. Robertson isn't a bad player, but he's nowhere near worth the money that he's getting paid.
UPDATE Jets | Team trying to complete sign-and-trade deal for D. Robertson Fri, 11 Apr 2008 07:21:41 -0700 John Murphy, of Yahoo! Sports, reports the New York Jets would likely acquire two of the five draft choices the Denver Broncos currently possess between the fourth-and-sixth rounds of the NFL Draft in what would essentially be a sign-and-trade deal for DL Dewayne Robertson, according to several league sources. The Broncos will need to sign Robertson to a new deal prior to the NFL Draft in order to allow the trade to be completed. The Jets are currently without a fourth-round draft choice of their own, while the Broncos have two picks in the fourth round, as well as two picks in the fifth round and one pick in the sixth round. The Jets currently have a total of just six picks in the NFL Draft, while the Broncos own a total of nine draft choices. Trading Robertson would save the Jets roughly $8 million as he currently is scheduled to count $11 million against the team's salary cap. http://www.kffl.com/hotw/nfl
update Former Broncos beat writer Bill Williamson believes the Jets will "probably" get two second-day picks in exchange for Dewayne Robertson. Williamson also seconds a Newsday report that the Broncos and Robertson have agreed to contract terms, with only trade compensation left to be worked out. Robertson figures to be a Bronco by the second day of the draft. Source: Hashmarks Blog http://rotoworld.com/content/home_NFL.aspx
