I love this show.

Dexter = Best show on TV
Jimmy Smits = Most boring TV actor of All-Time
That crime drama he did where he was a Miami mob boss was horrendous. Hopefully Dexter kills him off in Episode 10 after finding out he's into little boys or something.finsgirlie likes this. -
Man I love that show. And after last season and getting rid of Doakes and the FBI guy they needed to add some characters. I can't wait till the new season starts.

Great show, maybe the best on TV along with House. I really enjoyed the 2 seasons, I can't wait for the third season. Great characters on this show.

oh cmon man, Smits is great. i mean, Cane was a bad show, by no fault of his own. but he was so awesome on NYPD Blue. very likeable guy imo.finswin56 likes this.

I say episode 3.
BTW Doakes dies much cooler in the book. -
There is a 3rd book and its horrible. Unfortunately it takes a weird turn and goes a little Sci-Fi, very dissapointing.
Doakes gets his legs and arms cut off by the sinister killer Dr. Danco. Danco was a military hitman who killed for the US Govt. They also used him to torture terrorists to get information. I think Danco also cuts his tongue out of his mouth IIRC. Pretty awesome stuff :hi5:
SPOILER EDIT: He also teaches Ritas son to become a killer.Last edited: Jun 6, 2008 -
Wow, that sounds much different than the show. It looks like I need to get out and buy the books.
-
The first book is pretty close to the first season. Main diff is the 'Ice Truck Killer' is dubbed 'The Tamiami Slasher'. Much cooler if you live in South Florida. There are some significantly different details but the premise is pretty much the same.
The second book is more of a side story than anything else. Not much on Dexters background more on another killer at large. Although the Doakes/Dexter relationship is just as prevalent.GoPhins! likes this. -

I read the first book and enjoyed it, but there were a lot of differences between the first season and the book. The show has much better characters IMO, I was reading reviews of the books after the first one and they weren't very good. The show is great, the book was decent. -
I read alot of reviews for that book and although I didnt mind it ALOT of people were very appaled at that scenario. I wonder if the producers will still decide to incorporate that into the show.

Doakes always represented danger for Dexter. He had Dexter pegged dead to rights...note the pun.
They need to replace him with another character that hates him or is suspicious of him. -
This show is awesome.
I guess I'd have to read the book to get the feel for it because the way Doakes went out on the TV show is fine for me.... -
Season 3 preview....

Looks like the show is taking a different path from the books. I still say its the best show on TV.

Dexter is the only reason I am getting Showtime. Easily the best show on tv (well tied with Scrubs in my book).

Its up there in my books

I'll check those out.

Season starts sunday

yeah right...say that to Bobby Simone's face!!!
Dexter = best show on TV
Jimmy Smits = $$$$$$$$$$ -
Very good opener. However, I'm always weary of introducing new characters who're similar to the characters they replace.
Doakes was great. Smitts seems to be a tamer version. Plus I will miss Doakes way of saying mother****er...Phinz420 and HardKoreXXX like this. -
Ive made it clear Im not a fan of Smitts (read back in thread). His "Im watching you" moment at the murder scene wasn't really that intimidating. I hope he can do better. I REALLY like the storyline so far though. Still the best show on TV :hi5:

Good episode to start the series. I like the Smits character, it has a lot of potential. Maybe could have been cast better....but still a lot of possibilities. Dexter does need a foil to replace Doakes. Doakes was a great character. Maybe my favorite show on TV right now.

I havent had a chance to watch any episodes yet, they are all sitting in my DVR.
Dexter Gets 2 More Seasons
Showtime has renewed its top-rated drama series "Dexter" for two more seasons.
The premium cable network has ordered 12 episodes each for Seasons 4 and 5, with the fourth season set to go into production in the spring in Los Angeles.
Season 3 premiered Sept. 28 and is averaging 2.5 million weekly viewers combined across all airings, up 16% over the same period last season. When DVR and on-demand numbers are factored in, Showtime expects that number to exceed 3 million weekly viewers.
"Dexter," which stars Michael C. Hall as a complicated and conflicted blood-spatter expert for the Miami police department who moonlights as a serial killer, was nominated for five Emmys this year, including best drama series and best lead actor in a drama. The show also received a 2008 Peabody Award.
Showtime president of entertainment Robert Greenblatt credited the cast, producing team and Jeff Lindsay, author of the books on which "Dexter" is based, for the show's success.
"I thought at best we would attract a devoted cult audience but soon realized that, ironically, this show is so thematically rich and layered with humanity that audiences of all kinds have flocked to it," he said.

Awesome, the new season is great so far. -
:hi5:
-
Also: In sociological terms, the show has probably tapped into its audience's desire for revenge for crimes against it; Dexter's predilection for eliminating the scum of the earth - pedophiles and people who outwit the system to go free after committing heinous crimes - appeals to our desire to see justice done.

So who else is watching this season? I think its taking some nice turns. Enjoying it a lot so far. Great show.
-
Its been good, still not sold on Jimmy Smits character yet.

I'm watching it. I haven't been impressed until last night. I was blown away by the acting of the woman who portrays Camila. I was begging for Dex to take her out.
I don't know, I'm still kinda bummed that Dex is getting married. I'm also not liking the way he is sharing his secrets with others too.
