TUFF week to post this thread. The Good: Clemons played his best game. He has been better than any FA we could have signed. Henne had a VG game. He is just not quite there yet. Wake had another VG game. No sacks but a whole lot of pressure. Bess had another VG game. Thank GOD we extended his contract. Carpenter was MONEY. Anyone else?
Meh. He gave up a big play where he could have helped on Wallace. His run-support was there though. His coverage can/should definitely improve. Also, we went 12 rounds with the Steelers. The "judges" bailed them out in the end.
Oline handled the steelers for the most part. Defense as a whole held Mendenhall to 50 yds No injuries, Carroll just tweaked an ankle he was seen walking around the facilities today. Tons of pressure was put on Rothlesberger Sean Smith won his cornerback job back from Jason Allen, that is a good thing because JA is probably better suited to a specialized role. Sean Smith remembered how to tackle.
I was at the game and did not see where he should have been on Wallace. Was he out of position? His 9 tackles, with a half a sack, were impressive. Teams are not throwing his way much.
Good stuff. Dansby also played well with 2 tackles for loss. Langford, Soliai, and Misi chimed in as well. These guys are most definitely improving.
No, that was Clemons. I have been disappointed with Sapp. I'm wondering if Smith starts, maybe J Allen can take his spot. I like that much better.
Our trading of slot receivers has not turned out very well. Welker for Samson, and now this. Back to good news. I forgot Fields. Watching that 66 yard BOOMER live was amazing. His "other" two punts were inside the 20. He is having a great year, aside from the blocks.
Roberto lil' Beast Wallace also made an impact in the game with a couple of ST tackles and 1 reception that is normally the ticket to even more playing time for a player I believe HAS to get into games more often. Lil Beast is the closest thing we have to an X Factor on the offense, no one knows him or what he can do they all pay attention to Beast.. Thought Shuler did a good job as well. BTW, the truth is, Clemons did NOT blow the coverage on Moore, our Rookie Koa Misi blitzed instead of dropping into coverage..Koa has taken over Carpenter's nickel linebacker job and he is not up to speed as of yet.
My thinking exactly, which is why Smith winning back the job is good news overall for the Defense, let Sapp play the Dime Cb/ST role.
Worilds got by him twice, then Carey tightened up his game. The only real breakdown was a Foote blitz where he came through untouched.
I liked seeing Harrison dumped on his face by Polite. Anubody else notice what Dierdork said on that play? He mentioned the entire crowd was concerned how he was going to land. Why that man is a commentator is beyond me.
Worilds went by Carey like he was in cement. I have no idea why they didn't bring Harrison and Worilds more often.
To be honest, I'm hoping that Carroll can put Sapp on ST's only. This loss was very hard to take, although I was very proud of our team's effort. We have lost 3 home games against arguably the best 3 teams in the NFL so far this season. We have done this with half of our starters being new from a year ago, and a ton of young talent. Far from an easy task. These guys are getting better every week. Everyone has to see it. You give these young pups, and new players, another few weeks, and they are gonna be KICKING SOME ***. As I have said in pre-season, give me 4-4 to start, and we will win 10 games, be in the playoffs, and be SCARY. It is coming.
outside of Hartlines fumble, the receiving core played a pretty good game. Bess had a few nice plays, and Marshall clearly brings the big man factor to our offense. He didnt have 100 yards, he didnt score, but the steelers knew where marshall was at all times and that is a very good weapon for Henne now that hes learning to go through his progressions. Also why is it that Henne waited til he played the best defense hes ever faced to learn how to go through progressions?
I really like Hartline. I think our receivers are all very good. TE might be the worst spot but I don't think Fasano is as bad as everyone think he is. Wallace, Bess, Hartline and Marshall are all solid players. If only we still had Camarillo.
we need to get Sapp off the field ... i just don't see him making too many positive plays. not sure Smith retaking his CB position is a good thing ... guess we'll see over the next few weeks. I don't have a preference, just want to see improved play from that side of the field. I don't think either Allen or Smith is the answer ... and believe it will be Carroll next year. Carey is terrible against speed rushers ... and he gives up on blocks too early -- hence the 4th down play .... Henne would have had plenty of time to roll out if he had continued his block. Never have been a huge fan of Vernon's, but we don't have any other options. Not sure on that last Moore play ... it sure looked like it was Clemons who would have had him, he knew Misi was inside of him, took a slight bump from Moore and checked up ... so it didn't seem like a delayed safety blitz ... he also didn't help Allen out on the Wallace TD -- not sure he could have to be honest ... but still really like the kid, and he is playing pretty good for a 2d year player that didn't see the field all that much last year. overall it was a good game, but needed some better play calling in the red zone ...
I want 4 but I still like Camarillo better than Wallace at this point. I'm not saying Wallace is bad but I really liked Camarillo.
agreed about sapp, everything i notice on him is bad. he took a terrible angle and missed mendenhall on his only good run of the game and then he completely fails to tackle hines ward on his td. Hes pretty bad. Smith will be an improvement to Allen i think. Smith was our best CB last year, and with his head out of *** a little more this season, he can become a great starter for us again.
Yeah gotcha, I liked Cammy too, but I think Wallace's upside is much higher than Cammy. Still hope Cammy has a nice career and will never forget what he did for the Phins. He wouldn't be playing much if he were still in Miami
polite had a few nice blocks that also helped keep henne upright.and how about the sighting of lex hillard?i had totally forgot lexy was still on the team but it's ashame there was only one sighting of him.mcquiston(sp)impressed me in his pass blocking and on d crowder is playing much better with dansby next to him, hopefully he keeps improving from week to week.
All good calls. Watching Polite put Harrison directly on his Assss... oh no, sorry it was his face. I keep getting them mixed up ITs his *** that dierdork kept kissing Lexy made a nice block in one play. The entire front line really kept the goons off of Henne. Henne is NOT making many of those throws he made without that protection. LOTS of time on some instances I am by far one of the biggest Clem CHowder's haters, but he played better yesterday than I have ever...ever seen him play before. He still reacts REALLY slow, but he was in better position much of the day. Hopefully he keeps progressing like this. What I want to know, where the hell as Pat Cobbs gone? Maybe he hasnt ever really recovered from the injury? He was ALWAYS making key plays last year. A real jack of all trades.
yea it's been dissapointing that cobbs hasn't seen much field although he did have that return near the end of the pitts game which i was a little confused on but carroll had been injured if im not mistaken.still doesn't answer why he hasnt been in the backfield as much.him returning that kick suggested to me that he was healthy enough to play or that this f.o had no faith in anyone else returning.
