Short post on a BIG WIN. The Good: WE WON!!! Jets lost Carpenter was GREAT Aside from that, no one really shined but, almost everyone did something. A total team victory.
ST kicked some butt today, from kick coverages to field goals. How great is the ST rolling when Cobbs brings the ball out to the opponent's 45 yd line?
Dolphins had their most impressive offensive drive of the season. Those 4 big plays were a thing of beauty...
Agreed, as a group. No individual had a great game, or even a VG one. However, how many can we name that did something to help us win?
It would be nice if they ever called vertical routes for Henne. They come out and do it for 1 drive... and we march right down the field, making explosive plays, and score their only TD... Henne didnt play great... but hes also being strangled by the playcalling and route designs...
Ravens will be a great mirror for the Dolphins, philosophically, the Ravens try to deny everything, henne makes a living by taking what is offered.
Imo THE WAY IT LOOKED TO ME (AS MUCH AS IT PAINS ME TO SAY IT) LIKE THE PATROITS TEAMS THAT USED TO JUST FIND A WAY TO WIN, RIGHT BEFORE SUPER BOWL RUNS...
If you believed Henne played 'bad' you watched the wrong game. He was a hell of a lot of drops away from a 300 yard game with at least 1 (Hartline) TD.
That's the game I 'm worried about. We don't have a great history against the Ravens and with that defense of theirs....OUCH!!! I just hope we don't give up on the run against the Ravens. That's a trend I'm noticing. When we run the ball 25 times or more, we win.
I don't think so. I'm feeling more comfortable with the pass these days. Our pass protection is stellar.
The routes that you did get to see were mind numbing... Henne's INT for example. Terrible decision by Henne and you got to throw that one away. But did you see the route combinations? WR on the left runs a post. Slot WR on the right runs a post. It puts both the WRs in the same spot of the field... allowing both safeties and the entire defense to just crash down on the play. Neither WR was going to be able to get open on that play. Who designs a play where the 2 WRs run to the same part of the field? How is that supposed to work? You can see a WR's route for the first 10 yards or so, and a lot of them involved breaks before that 10 yards and while they were still on the screen. The one drive where you could see the WRs releasing trying to get down field... we make some big plays and drive right down the field for our only TD. Do we go back to that on the next possession? No. A run and 2 wildcat plays... We are running an offense designed for Chad Pennington... not Chad Henne...
Yea, like we can see the route on TV, plus know what plays are called in the huddle, plus sit in the meetings all week and watch films.
right now we have bess and marshall. hartline is hit or miss. i would really love to have a coaches film because i suspect from henne's progressions that our receivers are covered. dont know for sure but its what i suspect. in 2010 we drafted defense. 2011 we need to draft speed on offense...TE, WR aand RB
If we were playing the Giants, Penny might have a good chance of playing since the G-men have knocked out 5? QB's now.
I dont doubt that our WRs are covered. But its a lot easier to cover your WRs when they are only working the first 15-20 yards or so. Having more vertical routes creates spacing and makes it much easier for WRs to get open. When the Safeties can creep down and have everyone up short... passing lanes get a lot more congested...
Problem is there's not too much speed available. If we could nab Noel Devine in the 2nd, possibly turn Wallace into a TE. No speed in the draft next year. Maybe Kory Sheets makes a solid recovery?
thats the thing wwith sheets. i wonder if thats the worst injury we suffered this year (overall we're pretty healthy compared to other teams) but sheets was our speed. dont know if he was ready to contribute on offense or special teams but we may really be mnissing his speed
cover 2 is taking our deep game away. the intermediate routes are the correct plays called vs the defenses that are being played. we simply have to execute IMO. THat will loosen up the coverages to allow us to go deep
Well, overlooked in today's game is, Henne feasted on mediocre Cb's. the Ravens have very mediocre Cb's/ Depends, the most important trend I've noticed with Henne and the offense is they simply have to gain positive yardage on first down. If that comes from the air, or the ground, makes no difference, 2nd and 7 for us very different than 2nd and 10. Btw as for nicknames for the Defense: THE ROAD WARRIORS, THE LEGION OF DOOM. This is a bit of what it is like being a 2010 Dolphins Fan: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OSlncfDaM0"]YouTube - The Road Warriors vs Midnight Express Scaffold Match pt.1[/ame]
roberto wallace needs to learn the rules of football, and learn to catch (padre in 3..2..1..talking about his new custom cleats)
Eh, he screwed up, he at least should have caught the pass as well, if Sparano wants to bump him back down and call up Marlon Moore he is justified in doing so, that is how things work.
But the safeties are only going to drop as far as the WRs are running. You need to have at least one WR working the deep portion of the field to keep the safeties honest. You cant have everyone working the short to intermediate areas of the field. You design a route that clears out the high safety and opens up the intermediate WR...
4-3 is a really good start for as difficult as the schedule has been. I'd really like to win the first half of the year with a win in Baltimore. BTW folks, Baltimore fans can be as obnoxious as Steelers fans, stand ready to repel boarders..
we dont know if sheets would've just been another clifton smith. odrick being out hurts, but we will survive, i think honestly a big loss was that of Aj Edds. He is a hell've a cover inside linebacker, dansby is a pass rushing specialist from the inside backer position.....having edds, creates so much more opportunity for dansby to blitz, because we're comfortable with edds covering a TE. Edds played tighend and has great hands, and speed. Losing him hindered our defense a bit imho
