We certainly need the help at Linebacker.
Can we afford him? Would he come here?

I doubt he'd sign a back ups contract, and that's all we could muster, after paying Kiko, signing Timmons and drafting Raemac with Misi still on the team, I'm not sure how we could fit him.

Harris is 33 years old. I'm looking at the LONG game rather than the short term. I would rather build a younger linebacking corps that's with us for years than a single year, hope it plugs the hole contract...that comes back and bites us in the butt...a la Foster.

While I believe that Harris is a productive player, I don't agree that we need help at LB. We only play 3 LBs about a third of the time. The other two thirds of the time we play 2 LBs or less. I expect they're very confident in Kiko and Timmons being able to man that two thirds of the snaps. Then they have a high draft pick that by all accounts is grasping the mental aspects very quickly (the physical ability was never in doubt). Then they have Misi who most everybody considers a capable starter who is oft injured. It seems reasonable to assume that a player who is currently healthy is more likely to stay healthy in a more limited snaps. Then we have Smith, Hull and Hewitt whom the team seems to believe are at a minimum capable fill-ins and depth. By my count that's 7 LBs that the team considers capable of at least filling in on a team that plays no more than 2 LBs the large majority of the time. Obviously, things may change if we have injuries, but I wouldn't consider adding an older, short-term LB as a pressing need at this time.

If we're down to depending on our 5th LB again, we're in trouble. I don't see the point. Behind the four mentioned, we have CFL import Deon Lacey, who looks to have potential also. And Mike Hull is becoming a big part of our special teams. So, thats six deep as it is.

Plus, he's been making 7-10 million dollars a year for a while. Hard to see him going anywhere to take backup backup money. He's made about 55 million in his career, so unless he's been stupid with his money, he likely isn't going to be willing to take what we would offer him.Bpk likes this. -
I was reading a Bleacher Report, and seems the ex -Jets have players that can make an impact on teams before camp starts, in their opinion....Clady, Decker, Harris, Mangold, Decker and Revis.
