New Coach, New Attitude, New QB, same results...
Yep were rebuilding I hear you, but we have been doing this year after year after year it's Ground Hog day in Miami. What makes it worse is that even after all the negative press and QB controversy up in New York with the Jets we are a worse team than they are. Yep we got a cleaner facility and all our players shoes are tied, but we can't win a damn football game. Mind you I never expected us to beat San Francisco, but we had a chance and once again we got soft when it mattered. Teams always find a way to wear us down when it's on the line.
I honest don't know what to do anymore. I really want the Dolphins to be a contender again but were constantly pretenders anymore. Were worse than the JETS ughhh.... Thats the tough part... Now with the news or rumors that Ireland will be acquiring scary talent in the off-season once again after the stellar 2012 free agency season has me anxiously awaiting the 2014 season...
What makes things even worse is if we ended the season today were drafting like 10-11th.. The stud players we will need will be gone by than once again.... I feel we need to package all our picks and move up and get 2 first and 2 second round picks and acquiring everything else via free-agency.. Rash but we need YOUNG talented positions...
If we draft an Offensive Lineman first overall and don't addresss the W/R I think I will litterly cut ties with this franchise for my sanity...
Ughhh what a bad day were worse than the ****ty Jets...

Jets actually have a chance to reel off a few wins now if you can believe that.
Tennesse, Buffalo and the Chargers.
We are actually better off finishing last at this point. We already play at TB as part of the NFC South rotation, but if we finish last as opposed to 3rd we'd play at Jacksonville rather than at Tennessee. That would mean we'd play in the State of Florida 10 out of 16 games.
Every little bit helps. -
What worries me is Tannehill's stankass play.
Cripes going forward with him reminds me of JVille buying into Gabbert...this kinda sucksAquafin likes this. -
We're not worse than the Jets or Bills.
Those teams are basically finished, and in a point where realistically they need to rebuild their team, fire their coaches, and find a new quarterback.Ohio Fanatic likes this. -
So I take it you are the kind of people that paid close attention to this offseason and Hard Knocks and screamed "SUPERBOWL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" ?
talk about unreal expectations. -
No I didnt but I do expect that when teams play they get better. This team has gotten worse over the course of the season. Hard Knocks didnt install any confidence in me in fact I expected worse, but we played great for 4-5 games than just **** the bed... Were is the progress?? Who has gotten better? I see Hartline has gotten playing time thats it.. Everyone else is mediocre

FFS we are trying to run a WC no-huddle offense with a fat spread with nothing but Bess and Hartline. This season had 2 wins written all over it. You can't polish a turd. -
I'm not suggesting Tanny is the second coming but he is far better than Gabbert ever was.oakelmpine and Boik14 like this. -
LOL Dcafiero I hear you. Im not debating your vision and I saw a crappy season as well, and your right we need players on offense. Lets not forget the defense where we give up way to many yards... We have alot of holes and it takes a few drafts offseasons to get it right I just don't feel Ireland will be up to it. I think he looks for deals more than players..His poker hand is crappy.

But like I was saying, Our D has been GOOD all season. Although secondary is banged up and was never any good to begin with. The D needs so many LESS tweaks than the offense does. I'd drop EVERYONE in the back except Rjones if it was up to me. I don't know how I feel about Smith. This and some LB depth and movements on the line, you're gravy.
Outside of QB, RB, and Center The Offense literally needs almost EVERY position replaced/upgraded/smacked in the head. Other teams work AROUND their QB, which is what we need to spend this offseason doing. Surrounding RTH with a supporting cast that works for him and knows how to tie their own shoes without assistance.
This season should scream one thing and one thing only:
You can't MAKE PLAYS without PLAY MAKERS.Boik14 likes this. -

However, offensive line prospects in the first are aplenty. Not only the two bookend tackles coming out of TAMU but also some of those big boys that play on that Alabama interior. All considered first-round prospects. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if we picked up a pass-rusher in the first round either considering no one seems to be consistent across from Wake this year.
In the second round Terrance Williams will be available, Robert Woods (not a big fan), and the two guys I'm huge fans of; Deandre Hopkins and Cordarelle Patterson. Deandre Hopkins is the type of guy that can both get deep on a route but also go the distance if you were to throw him a quick dump-off. Patterson is so shifty.. he might not be the greatest receiver but just get him the ball and let him run with it. He cuts like nobody's business. Williams has been having a stellar year, he's tall and seems pretty fast but I just don't know fast he really is, and won't til he runs at the combine. But you don't rack up 1700 yards (albeit in the worst defensive conference in all of NCAA football) if you're a scrub. Also, keep an eye out for Stedman Bailey in the second or third round too out of West Virginia.GMJohnson likes this. -

Everyone gets it. And it is why they are saying why, after four years is this team this riddled with talent holes? There is a guy whose job is to specifically not allow that to happen.
Three guesses. -
Doctor: You have a condition MR.--
DC: NO! Don't tell me. I don;t care what's causing this.
Doctor: But then how will you know what to do to get better?
DC:I'll just hope it happens.
Yeaaaah. The franchise will fix itself. The players will pick themselves, but be great picks this time.
Good non-plan.
Dude, you may not like looking at the truth, because it's an unpleasant one, that the guy responsible for the talent on the roster has failed to assemble a good enough roster, but the only way to get better is to actually figure out the cause and then DO something about it.oakelmpine, dolfan22 and djphinfan like this. -

Thats not to say anyone has or hasn't performed well. But I think suggesting that the problem can simply be identified isn't the right approach IMO. -
I've been posting in the Tannehill thread because some of the hate for the kid is mindboggling, and that was the basis for most of what i'm saying, so that was my fault. Everyone doesn't get that. Really they don't. But thats for the other thread.
In our quest to find a QB, finding one only revealed so many holes that were not so glaring otherwise. I'm not arguing that the lack of talent and our mediocrity isn't primarily the fault of the front office and GM, it is. What i'm saying is posts like this make it seem like the expectations were so unrealistically high for the season to some posters here, especially with knowing what you just said, and seeing how our offseason went. Some of the rants seem so unwarranted at this point. We already have more wins than I thought we would, (by double.) When they announced RTH the starter I was already MAJORLY looking forward to the 2014 offseason/season and shrugging this one off unfortunately, but thats how rebuilding works. I'm excited about the future. We have a very stout Defense to tweak, and a QB to build A-R-O-U-N-D. But I feel like if i set my expectations low, I won't be too disappointed.... which is what is happening here, Lol -
It is all up to Ross at this time. He stated before the year that he expected the Dolphins to have a winning season and to make the playoffs. The best this team can do now is 8-8 and that is not a winning season. While they are still alive in the playoff race, it is highly unlikely they will make the playoffs this season.
So now it is up to Ross to make the changes necessary to get this team beyond mediocre. Parcells left the organization two and a half years ago and that didn't change anything. Sparano was fired during the 2011 season and that didn't change anything. Philbin was hired, along with a new coaching staff. Same old results.
The problem with this team is the severe lack of play makers on both the offense and the defense. One person has been here for the last five years and has been instrumental in drafting the talent and signing the free agents, Jeff Ireland. He has been a failure at selecting talent which can get this team beyond mediocre. Ross needs to put his big boy pants on and finally fire the person who is most responsible for the overall lack of talent on the roster.
Perhaps when he sees less than 50,000 fans in the stadium this weekend, he will finally see what needs to be done.Dorfdad, NolesNPhinsFan and oakelmpine like this. -
I'm going to the Jax game... good seats too, If that game isn't a Win, even my optimistic self is going to rage and pop a blood vessel or two. -
Most of us came in expecting 3-7 wins somewhere. No one really hoped for the playoffs.
You're right that it was Tannehill looking good that made uss start to hope and believe. That's the thing, it's hard to go from thinking we have no chance, to realizing we do, to totally not having a chance again.
It's been an emotional experience for a group of fans whose threshold for tolerating disapoointment has been exhausted by years of disappointment. A very raw-feeling fanbase.
So, yes, Tannehill ends up punished, somewhat, for giving us too much too early, in ways. lol. We would all rather have seen him struggle early, and look better NOW, because that's progress.
Instead, that Zona game gave us all hope he was here, he was ready... and going back to him struggling, then playing well, then being limited, then being okay... it's been hard to flip the switch backwards.
I do think he needs better receivers and a second year before we know what we really have. That said, ALL that matters is if he pans out so we will be hyper-observant of any of his tendencies. It this habit a concern? Is that one a good sign? I mean, so much rides on this kids shoulders and, by the way, no one ever talks about what a great job he has done with THAT burden! -
This organization would have been better off saying, yes it's a rebuild, and we have exciting new players, new coaches, and new systems, come be a part of something great as it's born.
They take a hit in early attendance, but that wiould improve as the product improved... as the team grew.
Instead, they wanted to let fans think we had a chances, so attendance was better right at the start of the season.. and as soon as the 'rebuild secret' began to show people got pissed, disappointeted and I'll bet attendance has dropped. It sure looks like it has.
Stupid expectation management. Another example, io, of bad mamabegemnt of the organization and dumb ownership.oakelmpine likes this. -
I repeat though, I agree with what your saying, and you can only change the players and coaches so much before you realize its time for a front office / culture sweep. Unfortunately the time for that is sooner rather than later and getting pushed back more and moreoakelmpine and Bpk like this. -
