Four months later, with training camp over and two preseason games left before Miami begins to prepare for its season opener at Buffalo on Sept. 12, Dobbins’ value is becoming more and more evident. General Manager Jeff Ireland, Head Coach Tony Sparano and Executive Vice President of Football Operations Bill Parcells targeted the fifth-year linebacker out of Iowa State because of his playmaking abilities and high motor to compliment Channing Crowder and Karlos Dansby inside, as well as his special teams skills.
This past Saturday night in Jacksonville against the Jaguars, Dobbins got a chance to show what he can do lining up next to Dansby with the first team defense as Crowder was unable to play with a leg injury. He finished with two tackles, both for loss, and made a solid effort in pass coverage despite still nursing a sore ankle. Sparano was impressed with what he saw, especially taking the circumstances into effect – almost a two-hour lightning delay, a wet field and his limited practice time the week leading up to the game.
