The TO touchdown, was just a good play by TO and a good nocall by the refs on holding on Starks it looked like. The picks by Henne didn't help, but he pretty much HAD to make a play. Offensive Line let us down a bit allowing all the batdowns and pressures on Henne. You have to give a young QB a little more time or their gonna throw picks.

 

If not then they cant be too far off.

Unfortunately it's both. Issues at receiver, blocking, and playcalling on O. And Issues at pass rush, tackeling, run defense, intensity, and play the whole game with all you have on D.

That touchdown was bullsh*t. Twice while running down the field T.O pushed off on Davis creating him to slow down and T.O having 2 yards of separation:up:.....if that wasn't offensive pass interference I don 't know what is

at the start of this game....the Dolphins were 1st in the NFL with 4th quarter points scored against them with --117 ad todays 24 and you got it:cry:

 

We've given up 141 points in the 4th quarter of games this year. That works out to 12.82 points per game in the 4th quarter ... just under 2 touchdowns on average.

Simply awful is the best way to describe it.

 

It seemed odd to use him then, almost desperate.

I think that scenario has potential but it needs more refinement and better blocking from our O line to work. Many calls have me confused this year but I guess if they had succeeded I'd be saying great call.

Those kind of plays are going to be weak as long as they are limited by the option of White (or anyone) tagging a racing receiver not being likely. The penetration enemy D often gets on our O line limits it greatly too.

 

I've given up trying to figure out the NFL's pass interference rules. I see Moss get away with so much pushing off I can't believe it. Then I see guys, not just Phins, get called for PI for absolutely no reason.

I know the refs are human and can make mistakes but with all the video and staff at these games bad calls should be less frequent. I can handle a bad call if the system says oops missed that and corrects itself. When the system arrogantly pretends perfection and refuses to be accountable for mistakes it lessens the quality and respectability of the NFL.

 

Amen brother. Would love to see 3-4 new linebackers - inside and outside - and another safety or two next year. Wake, Torbor and Taylor are the only three who I would like to see stick around next year.

 

Seem to only play 3 qtrs. After that, it's off to the country club mentally.

 

Still think you need a damn tight end and at least one WR.

The defense is at a disadvantage when it's forced to play both the run and the pass for an entire game. The great teams in today's NFL don't have super star defenders at every position. They have offenses that can put enough points up and make the other team abandon the run. We'll never have a great defense or be a great team until we can put up enough points quickly enough to give our defense a 4th quarter advantage.

Obviously balance is the goal but we'll never get there just running and playing defense. The most we can hope for with that strategy is to be a playoff contender with little or no SB hopes who keeps every opponent in the game. That will always leave the outcome up to a couple bad bounces or a couple of big plays.

If we ever want to be a real SB contender we're going to have get the ability to put up points quickly.

 

In this vein, our longest play on the day was 20 yards.

 

And you have a fresh gassed monster waiting to kill a QB..sitting on the sideline watching.

I really like Coach Sparano...but this reaks of coaching guys...you cant simply be just that bad in the fourth....something is out of wack....

 

we run a defense predicated on linebacker play....the 3-4. we have spent two offseasons pursuing every position but linebacker (cameron wake the exception) . we have done a good job of addressing every position but receiver (unless hartline or turner become all stars) and linebacker. next year - the vaunted year three- is the year where we have to overhaul the linebacking corps. linebackers dont take 3 years to develop. they can play year one. we shouldnt be surprised we are 27th in defense when our linebacking crew consists of senior citizens on the outside where you want speed and 2nd stringers at ILB. We have to get at least two of the four linebacking positions replaced. it almost doesnt matter which ones but we have to add talent. youth, speed and toughness

Too much man coverage. The only problem is that it has to be run because we always have two strong safeties on the field. Our hope presently resides on how fast Chris Clemons (4.33 40 yard dash) can become really smart.

 

It's the two in the middle. Torbor signed a a three year contract designated for a free agent backup. Crowder signed a three year contract designated for a free agent backup.

Ayodele has one year left on his Dallas deal. He along with Anthony Fasano have already outplayed the fourth round pick investment.

 

porter and JT replacements are far more important long term. Porter is playing like crap this year. whether thats the hamstring or not doesnt matter as much as the fact that both he and JT are on the wrong side of 30. A 3-4 needs dominating OLBs, at least one. We dont have one and we have to get one to make the 3-4 work. we definitely have to add a ILB or two but OLB is by no means a position we can skip for a year

 

Something needs to be changed because I have lost faith in this coaching staff. Not Sparano, but Henning and Pasquoloni. They both suck and need to be fired. I can't take it anymore!!!!!

Forget about cliches......

The question you have to ask yourself when approaching the SLB position:

Is the TE killing you in the run game? Does he destroy your linebacker to the point that he is in the inside linebacker's pursuit alley? Does your Strongside linebacker allow the run to stretch to the sideline where your inside guys cannot keep up in pursuit? If the answer is no, then you have a strongside linebacker. The job ain't that hard.

Where the job becomes difficult is zone coverage. Now I have seen a few instances where Jason Taylor cannot reach the flat zone for which he is responsible. Let me emphasize A FEW TIMES. But seldom do we place him in that coverage responsibility. The only occassion I have seen it is when we are playing 1/4, 1/4, 1/2 and his back released. Nine times out of ten we are in that coverage versus triple receiver sets and we have nickel personell on the field. When we have nickel personell on the field, Jason Taylor could have his hand in the dirt if he didn't want to show exactly what he was doing.

Where the TE has been killing us is deep coverage. That isn't a strongside linebackers responsibility in the majority of our coverages. Half of the time the stud TE is torching the strong safety.

Strongside linebacker will always disappoint fans. It is a sacrificial position. It's the defensive tackle of the secondary. For the most part, the job is to negate the effect a TE can have in the run game.

I don't even want to discuss the Weakside linebacker. This roster is flooded with weakside linebackers versus the modern day offense.

What goes unsaid around here is the fact that we will have nickel personel on the field for a large part of the game. I worry more about losing Nathan Jones than either of the outside linebacker positions. When we go nickel the choice is simple for the Dolphins. Are we rushing four, five, or six versus spread. Let's focus on the four. One of the four ain't going to be Jason Ferguson. It's going to be to fellows listed on roster as DE and two outside linebackers. Our outside linebackers rush so well that teams always leave a TE on the field.

So now we have five defenders on the line. Three of them are listed as DE on our roster. We are still rushing four. The TE now has the choice of "run a route" or "max protection". The outside linebacker has no idea which choice will be made. Five on the rush is negated unless the OLB covering the TE is dedicated to rush. Now you have an ILB responsible for that TE. That's zone blitz. We don't do too much of that. We don't do too much of that because our ILB are not very athletic and to be frank, I don't think they are that smart. They can't show one coverage and get to another. I haven't seen it and I don't expect I will.

Every fan has been waiting. They are waiting on zone blitz. They don't exactly know it when they see it. They won't know what it is when they see it. I know it when I see it but it's never there. It's not there because this team lacks the athlete's to do it. Where do they lack the athletes to do it?

Akin Ayodele who came out of college after playing THERE as a defensive end.

Channing Crowder who came out of college as a weakside linebacker running a 4.75 forty.

Reggie Torbor who ran a 4.65 forty coming out of college.

The dudes are rentals. I couldn't tell the difference when Torbor played either position. Some of the time I thought he played better than either of the two. There is no doubt in my mind that Ayodele is the best of the three. Now what does it say about your inside linebacking core when probably the best one MOVED to the position just to catch on in the NFL. Worse yet, what does it say when it took he and another player (Fasano) to warrant a 4th round draft pick?

Crowder just shopped the NFL in free agency. He signed with Miami in a three year deal for an undisclosed amount. THAT was his money contract. THAT was the big payday. He got what? Three years and a home team discount...........

Torbor just shopped the NFL in free agency. He signed with Miami on the promise that he would compete with Ayodele to start. Four years and 14 million later, he's backing up Ayodele - our best inside linebacker.

There is no greater need on the defensive roster than inside linebacker. NONE!


Now I shall go and pray that Chris Clemons is the 2010 opening day starter at free safety.

:lol: love the last sentence. I certainly agree that ILB is the most glaring weakness. All I am saying is we have two starting OLBs who are at an age where they dont slowly get worse, they just show up one day and suck. I dont think Jason Taylor is playing that poorly this year. That doesnt mean next year he loses another step and becomes useless. Thats what happens to old players. Still as I said he isnt plaaying as poorly as Porter is. This defense needs more production from Porter's position. We simply arent getting it. Who knows maybe Wake will take over next year? But as of now we have a decent effort from Taylor and a sub standard effort from Porter. So yes, we have glaring needs at ILB but lets not be blind to the cracks that have developed at OLB
