What exactly is a "deep pass"? 20+ yards is a deep pass now? Really? Also, Chad will only throw those when there is no defender in sight so you better hope your receivers are getting 10 yards of seperation or else Chaddy P aint throwing it anywhere near them.

And yes, he does fit the Dolphins plan, at least what their plan SHOULD be.

That's probably the crux of that seemingly anomolous stat.

He's a better fit because he's a more accurate passer than McCown, which means he *should* do well with limited opportunities. It does limit our options 20 yards down the field, however.

I'm not the biggest Chad Pennington supporter but....

If anyone thinks Chad's reluctancy to go will be anything different than what we've seen the past 8 years, then they're mistaken.

Outside of Gus Frerrote, we've had a bunch of check down super conservative QBs in the past 8 years that would only screw up the few deep/downfield balls they threw.

Chad Pennington's only difference is that when he does throw downfield as the Statistic shows, he's a lot more effective.

Sad to say, but this is the best QB we've had since Marino.

But take a gander at their stats over the past four years on attempts 20 yards or longer.

Pennington didn't go deep as often, but he was much more effective when he did. His amazing passer rating of 107.7 dwarfed Favre's 66.9.

The main reasons for the disparity were Favre's interceptions and Pennington's judiciousness. Only 3.7 percent of Pennington's passes got picked off. Favre's daredevil antics helped inflate his interception rate to 12.1 percent.

Doode, those stats say more about Santana Moss than they do about Chad...

He certainly fits the plans imo. We are going to be running the ball, likely around 40 times a game. All Chad will be asked to do is to not screw it up, manage the game if you will. If he can manage our games, not turn the ball over then we could be looking at a .500 record.

Oh comon really. Chad has done it with many receivers and our receivers now have no lack of speed especially if we start Hagan and Ginn Jr.

The reason his stats look nice is because he performs the play action pass extremely well and he takes his shots at opportune moments. Whatever ball he does throw down the field is accurate, has nice touch, and has a good arc making it child's play to catch.

It's not a magical anomaly. It's just a factor of his dink and dunk style opening up options 20-30 yards deep when safeties collapse.

By the way it's not the arching 30-40 pass that gives Chad trouble. It's the deep out and the intermediate range balls that are difficult for Chad to throw.

If he has to thread the needle, that's where he struggles, not so much the lob bomb down the field.

Thats been the plan since we resigned Ricky. And I think we do have WRs that can get open for those bombs. We'll just have Ginn run straight down the field.

Chad is accurate and very very smart! He can manage the game, keep the ball going and is certainly great at the play action pass.

He can get the ball down the field, but usually on a big all out play. He cannot, however, do a quick out 15-20 yard pattern that just zips across the field. It is that throw, that defenders have learned he cannot do, so they sit on the route and usually pick him off.

For that reason they also stack the box and it hurts the running game.
