or maybe just a lot less ?

Just because the phins have BM now doesn't mean the wildcat cant be ran. However im not certain it will be ran as much but i do strongly believe we will see it an average of 4-8 plays a game.
-
The Wildcat became a memory as soon as Ronnie got hurt last year. Ricky ran it a few times with very little success, as did White.
-
I feel that we will still see the Wildcat. It wont be the focal point of our offense, and it wont even be relied on as heavily as it used to be. But we've shown the ability to be dynamic and explosive in the wildcat and it would simply be foolish to not run it a few times a game, especially considering we already have it installed in the offense, just to keep defensive coordinators around the league awake at night. It might take us 30 minutes to put in a play while it takes DCs several hours to days to figure out how to stop it.

the WC was developed because we needed something .... it won't be scrapped -- but it won't be used as much as the last 2 years -- we have the players to run a successful conventional offense WITH legitimate threats now.
it's also the main reason RB is on the block ... his biggest asset is being marginalizedCoral Reefer likes this. -
I think the WildCat is a staple
excellent change of pace piece
as long as we use it effectively
opponents have to prepare
to play against it with or without
Ronnie Brown the system stays -
We can still use the Wildcat. Only on 4th down, and, instead of Ronnie, it'll be the Punter who will kick it with his foot instead of running with it (alla Jets)
-
The Wildcat was born simply to take advantage of our having two very solid backs and to cover up the fact that we had a very weak passing game.
It wasn't because it was a revolutionary package.
With a developing Henne and an all pro WR I guarantee you we will see it much less. It will be used even less if R. Brown is moved.
So glad we spent that 2nd on White last year. -
Who cares were going all the way boi!!!
-
Probably less of the Wildcat, although we'll see a healthy dose near the goalline.
We will though, hopefully see an expanded package with Pat White. Hopefully more Veer, Triple Option, and Flexbone stuff.padre31 likes this. -

At this point that's hardly a given. -

I'd love to see the flexbone ran by an NFL team. I doubt the Dolphins will use it, now that we have Marshall. It's mainly an offense used by teams that are outmatched in most aspects of the game. It covers those weaknesses with amplified ball control, eating most of the clock. It's fun to watch, when being ran effectively, though. -
we may not NEED the wildcat the way we used to, but that's no reason to dismiss it entirely. It's still something the defense has to devote some time to in practice. It's still something we can use if we feel like it. It's still a way to get two RB's in the game at once. There's no reason to get rid of it.

The Wildcat can be used more as an aerial weapon too, if Henning would just expand the playbook. There's always a potential for a big play whenever you can make the defense lean one way or another.
-
I was fine with the WC because it was an extension of our power running game but now that we have a QB that can make all the throws, an elite talent at WR, a very solid OL and a fine stable of RB's.......why keep trying to be cute out there with this college stuff?
When is it ever a good time to pull Chad Henne out and replace him behind center with Pat White?
I have to disagree here Pads, I'm hoping they just move on and forget about Pat's "little package"Coral Reefer likes this. -
You invest your time where it's needed for your team based on the personnel you have at that time.
At the time we were investing in the Wildcat we HAD to.
We may not have to anymore.
I'd say R. Brown will still be the main man in that role and if he goes, if Pat White dosen't show marked improvement, you'll see the Wildcat wither away. -

Especially with Marshall on the team, blitzing CBs won't be as effective. Not only can they be blocked by the WRs, but relying on a CB to tackle Ricky Williams isn't a very good bet. -
I don't get what you're referencing.
Not being combative but I really don't.
Pat's package was as ineffective as it gets.
He had one 33 yard run that was through a gaping hole.
Other than that his running was ineffective and his passing was so bad they stopped asking him to even look at his read.
Not saying there isn't possibility he can develop but based on what I saw it's not looking good. -
-
When they put in anything that wasn't vanilla, it was the one drive against the Patriots where they had their way with the defense. Those are the type of things that will be successful, especially the Veer in my opinion.
Look at it like this...when they brought White in at junctures in the game that really weren't that critical, it was all simple zone-read. When they brought him in during critical points (4th quarter against NYJ, against NE, 2pt conversion against TEN I believe), they didn't run a vanilla zone read, and those instances were successes. -
We have choices....we can trot little Pat White out there and his Pistol package on first down and sit back and hold our breaths.......or we can do some play action with Henne and try to push the ball down field to Marshall or Hartline.
For me the choice is pretty simple -
This after watching the Jest effectively use it in the AFC Championship game?
That's why imho it sticks around, to high an investment has been made in time and personnel, and no one has really stopped it. -
-
-
Really what differentiates the Veer from the Triple Option is the blocking scheme. You'll see them leave 2 defenders go unblocked. -
Well by god he really is a genius, isn't he? -
Id imagine belicheck suspected it the whole time. Which is probably why he looked so pissed when it still worked.Stringer Bell likes this. -
Obviously not genius enough. They knew option was coming, just couldn't stop it. -
-
No problem with keeping the WC.....however I fail to see how Pat White "maximizes" the package.
Him not being physical or fast for that matter, makes him less of a threat to run. So now all that's left is him throwing the ball......and it makes no sense to send Henne to the side line so White can throw the football.
