Simple. 4 options. Both Go. Irish Goes. Philbin Goes. Both Stay.
Please weigh in and discuss your rationale.
Personally, I think this is the worst week for us to be in prime time. Exposure will be insane. I think both go.
Will Jeff Ireland or Coach Philbin lose their jobs over handling of this situation?

Play on the field will determine it. This just helps it along if it happens.

This will certainly not help their case. Ireland is responsible for bringing Cogs to the team and then resigning him. Also drafted Martin, who may have had mental health issues, in the second round.
And for Philbin, regardless of his actual involvement, to have this kind of thing explode on your watch? You better be doing something else really really really well. There will probably be more scapegoats (right or wrong) than Cogs, and both Philbin and Ireland are prime candidates. At a minimum I think they need a playoff appearance to be considered save worthy. -

New option : No idea at all what this has to do with Philbin, especially Ireland.
This very likely has nothing at all to do with coaches or the front office, people are uninformed and looking to point fingers everywhere. Ofcourse with you guys, ITs just a constant battle to get the latest Scapegoat canned. the 5 degrees of Jeff Ireland game, where everything negative is creatively linked to him. Unless this is related to the Hernandez investigation, silly think anyone is losing their jobs over this, aside from the player(s) involved. We're talking about a case of bullying, you guys are really reaching on this one.Rocky Raccoon, MikeHoncho, GMJohnson and 1 other person like this. -
If Martin talked to Philbin, he's more at risk then Ireland. How is the GM in the locker room mess?
Phinsanity was right when it's just another case of trying to link everything wrong to Ireland.
Sometimes it's just the players being stupid, and once the player is gone, things turn around. -
I think the fact two of their top offensive linemen probably won't be playing anymore for the Dolphins this year will affect the play on the field and possibly lead to more losses than wins over the next eight games.
Another losing season will have a lot more impact on the jobs of Ireland and Philbin than this incident.
I have felt for over two years that Ireland should be fired, but Philbin's job might also be on the line. This issue certainly isn't going to make it any easier for Ross to retain Philbin if the Dolphins don't have a winning season this year.ASOT likes this. -
My guess is both are fired. I'm not sure that's the best for the team, but the public pressure may force Ross' hand. I was hoping that we could finally establish some continuity, but I don't see that as particularly likely right now. Even if just Ireland is fired, I think the odds are high that at most Philbin makes it more than another year. Ironically he'd basically have to have an incredibly successful season and most likely that would be the result of RT and this year's class coming into it's own.

In this day and age, and with the way the NFL is trying to market to younger women, I believe there will be pressure to have them fired.
I think you might see the NFL suspend Philbin much as they did Sean Payton. If Payton was suspended for a year, I have a feeling they will say they are trying to protect the game and players, and will treat hazing and bullying the same way they treated the pay for hit thing. My guess is they will try and make a severe enough example to make it look like bullying and hazing will never be tolerated.
I think Ross might possibly see this coming...and preemptively make a move. Doing so buys him some time now....and may actually gain some sympathy from the fans. -
On topic, I'm sure it isn't going to help their case. -
This shouldn't be the single thing which causes it, but I think it's likely both get fired.

If you thinks it likely they both get fired, than its apparent you gave up on this season already..... and I'm ashamed to share a team with you if thats the case.

Ireland's 2nd round picks:
Henne
Merling
Pat White
Sean Smith
Koa Misi
Daniel Thomas
Jon Martin
Jamar Taylor
2 busts at QB, a DL who gave us nothing, a corner who wasn't great here but is now flourishing in KC in a scheme that fits his strengths, an average linebacker, a RB who should arguably be cut, a soft mentally fragile tackle who can't block anyone and a rookie corner who can't even get on the field.

It will all depend on how the rest of the season goes.
-
Despite the prayers from the Firelanders, nope. This won't.

-
I don't think they get fired solely because of this incident, but this, among other things, would be a catalyst for it. At the very least, this issue aside, I think another 8-8 or worse finish costs Jeff Ireland his job (I'd argue it should cost Philbin his as well, but I don't think it will).
-
Unless there's clear evidence either or both were completely negligent I don't see them getting fired directly because of this. But this is a big, permanent mark in the negative column for both.
-
Irelands culpability resides in the fact that he bought in two guys to play for this team that both seem to have mental problems. I was led to believe that there was some sort of mental screening process that all teams go through when looking at potential players. Clearly the Dolphins "screening process" is not up to the task and since Ireland has that responsibility in his purview it makes him culpable.

What if Martin speaks and says that Philbin helped him a ton before things started spiraling again? No one knows what Philbin had to do with any of this yet. All we know is that Philbin heard the voicemails and promptly suspended incognito. Which was the right thing to do.
Again, it's too early to say right now. Let's see what else comes out and how the team responds on the field. -
It will factor in especially if we don't make the playoffs. Winning changes everything. If we miss the playoffs even as a 10-6 team they're fired IMO.

Wait...what.
I said I think this gets them fired.....but...Im fairly certain I havent given up on the season yet. -

Here's the thing.
Regardless of what actually went on behind the scenes, this is the second big black eye this organization has received on Ross's watch. The first was our chasing a coach when we still had our head coach under contract.
This stuff leads to a public perception of the organization that isn't good, no matter what actually goes on behind the scenes. Plus, the word of the day when Joe Philbin was hired was transparency. The team was going to be more open with the media, but they haven't been.
Stephen Ross is very close to the point where he has to make a move to restore the credibility of the organization. It's either that, or he sells to someone local like Jordan Zimmerman, who was interested last year.
Let's not forget that ownership quibbled over getting public funds for a $200 million renovation and then donated that amount to a PAC instead of just funding the improvements himself.Marco, ASOT, Section126 and 2 others like this. -
Its amazing at how bad of a black eye the dolphins get and yet several fans seem to enjoy being a non factor and having all this bad press.
I hate having bad press and having a 8-8- or 7-9 type of season for 30 years . a 4 -12 or 6-10 season would boost us more then settling for less but Dolphin fans are horrible at realizing this .
the Ireland apologist need to shut up about how great of a job he is doing and look at how talented we are not . we are worse then what our record is and keeping things as status quo does nobody any good. -
One can hope.
