I think so.
If we are willing to downgrade our chances this year to improve in the future, I think all they are waiting for is to see if Garrard is reasonably healthy enough to go as our backup this season. If he comes back from the injury and looks good in September, I think Moore is moved by October for another pick.
Thoughts?

Who is giving up picks for Matt Moore?
I don't see it, barring a pretty catastrophic injury on a contending team with a scheme he could step into. Even then, I'd think we're talking a late pick.Bpk likes this. -
Downgrade to improve. How many more years of this philosophy do they expect us to endure? Like I said in another thread, I don't think the coaching staff has any say whatsoever in the moves Ireland makes. I'm sure every player with any trade value is on the blocks.

Suck for Luck comes a year too late.
Might as well trade Moore. He's a FA at years end so even a 6th is decent. I'd explore trading overpaid semi bums like Dansby as well.Pandarilla likes this. -

Who traded for Tavaris, out of curiosity? -
God I hope so.

It's the stated timing that is such a big problem. If the team were in a position to move him today, maybe Moore has value. It has to be an injury situation and a team he could step into with prospects for the postseason to make a pre-deadline trade make sense.

Heck, come week 1 if I felt Tanne and Devlin with his hat on backwards could hold down the fort till a healthy Garrard could return to wear his hat on backwards I would start calling around now and see who would give me the best pick 4th?, 5th? or 6th or 7th or multiple including future years too for Moore and ship him in a heartbeat.
Anyone not really necessary for the 2013 and beyond you ship off and get picks.Bpk likes this. -
If we had a great GM, people would feel okay about it, I think, because they'd trust he would either use that pick to move up and get a superstar earlier, or get a great value in the 2nd round.CrunchTime likes this. -
It's true that we may not retain Garrard when he comes off injury. In which case, Moore stays.
It's not just about having a backup, it's about having a veteran mentor who already gets along with Ryan.steveincolorado likes this. -
I hope not. Moore is a good backup QB. We won't get enough back for him in a trade to warrant trading him imo. Having a QB who can come in off the bench in case of injury and manage the game is important.

Moore only has one year left on his contract... if we get a trade offer for him, we should take it. I suspect that when his contract is up he will want to sign someplace he has a chance at the starting job.

If I were the Cards I would like to have Matt Moore over Skelton or Kolb.
