Usually I only post this in the Paid section, however since I am not exactly employeed at this moment and I am allocating my funds to areas that are more important than Miami Dolphins Forums, thePhins zoo gets a treat. A waste of everyone's time. Especially mine. I hope you enjoy it. If you do not, you can go to hell. Now is for everyone's favorite time. Dol-Fan Dupree's take on the roster. I have done this for over 10 years now, where I go through each player on the roster, make a witty comment, piss off Rob Konrad's father and everyone's happy with the time they have wasted. Except for Rob Konrad's father. Man did that guy love Jeff Ogden. This year more people's fathers will probably be pissed off and everyone can probably see what is coming. Offense: Dolphins offense last year was decent. They should improve this year. Well their improvement even with the huge splash with Brandon Marshall, the improvement is hinged on the quarterback. If Henne played like he did last year Miami is going to struggle. If he improves then Miami is going to be a dangerous team on offense. Quarterback: This is an interesting position. Just like in my quick overall description the improvement in this category will make or break the season. This is the first time in a while I have been excited for this position. Chad Henne: This guy is the future of the Dolphins. You heard it here about 100th or so time. He showed great promise last season. He has a really good arm and makes smart decisions. Unfortunately last year a lot of his decisions were too smart and did a lot of dinking and dunking. Which is exactly opposite of his strong point. Last year Chad Henne was the jerk who you played with who would throw you a bullet pass 3 feet away. Also his medium range touch was very sporadic. He would have some throws that were amazing, like the pass to Camarillo against the Jets, then other time he would laser it into the receiver too high and behind him a little. I have read that he has been working on his mid range touch passes, so we will see. He is a hard worker and a competitor. He has all the qualities of Jay Fiedler, plus the talent to play the position. He is like Jay Fiedler if had the technology to build Jay Fiedler a robot body. Unfortunately it is more like a 1950s robot. He is kind of stiff in the pocket. Hopefully he took CKParrotHead's suggestion and worked on that. - Starter Pat White: Pat White is a lot like a new president. You mention his name and some people will claim he is the son of the devil and others will say, “Lets see what he can do.” He does have a few things going for him. He has a heart of a champion, like Jay Fiedler. However unlike Jay Fielder he also has vision and quickness. Like Jay Fiedler he throws a lot of duck passes and probably shouldn't be a quarterback. Last year I did not see anything that shouted quarterback. That isn't rare for an undersized rookie quarterback. Look at Tom Brady as a rookie and your first thought will be, “Get that man some steroids.” We will see if Pat White also got a dose of Tom Brady's “hard work” and “dedication” this offseason. - Keep Tyler Thigpen: I do not think the Pat White experiment is going to be over after two years. I do think the back up quarterback position will be between Tyler Thigpen and Chad Pennington. Tyler Thipen confuses me. Well not Tyler Thigpen, but the fact that Miami was able to get Tyler for a 5th round pick when he had a pretty good season during his first year as a starter. Plus the spread is screaming to be tried as an offense in the NFL and he is a good spread quarterback. If I was in charge of the Broncoes I wouldn't have pissed off Jay Cutler and traded Brandon Marshall, however if I was an idiot and did those two stupid things. I would have cut Brady Quinn and Kyle Orton, traded for Tyler and really get that spread offense a go in the NFL. Work out the kinks before Tebow is ready to take over. They might not win many games, however it would be very exciting. - Keep Chad Pennington: I am confused by his signing. I do not think he is going to be ready to play this season. He is super smart and would be fine if Miami signed him to coach. Maybe they did. Maybe they have an agreement where if he is unneeded they will cut him and higher him as a coach. Still thankful for that great season. - PUP/IR Runningback: What a difference a year makes. I am very unsure about this spot. It looks good on paper if everyone stays healthy. One of the best if they do. Also weird. Ronnie Brown: I love how everyone knows exactly what is going to happen with this guy. Still one of my favorite players on the team. I love how he runs. Unfortunately he is injury prone. He is that weird injury prone where he gets hurt different every time. Just seems so unlucky. The weird part is that his running style is actually pretty safe. He only tries to run over people smaller than him and are flat footed when they are tackling him. The ones that are coming fully steam ahead or bigger than him he tries to juke them. He has really good tackle breaking ability and patience. With a good line he is very dangerous. I hope he stays healthy this year. I am sick of writing that. - Keep Ricky Williams: Showed last year he still has it. Also showed last year he doesn't still have it if he has to do it multiple games in a row. Wore down quickly when he was the starter after Ronnie got hurt. His vision is still amazing and his quickness for his size is also still amazing. I still believe that if he always had his head straight he would be considered one of the best. He does have a chance to pass another player who quit on the Dolphins this season. - Keep Patrick Cobbs: This will probably be my first one that a lot of people disagree with. However I look at Cobbs and I do see a player worth keeping. He is the perfect 3rd back as he can do everything decently. However people believe the wild cat will not be used as much and without the wild cat Cobbs value goes down. I do not think it is a coincidence that the Wildcat was hurt once Cobbs went down. His ability to block on the wild cat opened holes and his ability to go out on passes opened up big plays. However his knee is hurt and he wasn't that fast to begin with and Miami could use more home run hitters. Also Sexy Lexy can replace him on special teams and did last season and did damn good. - CUT “Sexy” Lex”y” Hilliard: Here is a player were I was impressed with and disappointed with. The funny part is it was the opposite of what I thought it would be. His ability to catch out of the backfield is really good. I did not expect that at all. For a guy who is 240lbs he goes down really easy. After the draw play that he got a first down on 3rd and long I did not see a punishing runner. His balance is not special at all. However he was good at special teams. Hopefully he has improved this season and takes Cobbs spot – Keep Korey Sheets: He is one of the players that the coaches hope can be a home run hitter on special teams. I do think he has potential at the Ricky Williams part in the wild cat. A faster shiftier back. The battle will be between him and Tristan Davis – Keep Tristan Davis: Korey Sheets wins. - CUT Lousaka Polite: He went from a player who I didn't think much of in 2008, into a player who I love in 2009. His improvement in run blocking was huge. He went from a decent blocker and awesome short yardage player to a great devastating blocker while still being awesome at short yardage. I do think having Ricky or Ronnie behind him helps. Still he is money at blank and one. - Keep Rolly Lumbala: He is from Canada. I love his name. I kind of hope he beats out Polite. Polite is a good name because it is like pro wrestling. Kind of the wrong use of irony type of name. However Rolly Lumbala with the devastating block just rolls off the tongue. He is also being worked out at tight end. That does help him. Not enough though - CUT Wide Receiver: I know, I know, you are going to be pissed. It is like I said someone's mom was fat. Sheesh, it is football people. It is not my fault if you like the ugly chick. I am sure she has a great personality. In all seriousness there is some serious excitement here. What looked like a huge weakness is now looking like a strength. Brandon Marshall: It is all a strength because of this man. Defenses are afraid of him. For good reason. He can make catches he shouldn't and break tackles. More of a possession receiver than a deep threat. He still can make big plays when needed. Teams are not going to want to put 9 in the box with him on the field. Lets hope he can stay out of trouble – Keep Davone Bess: The perfect slot receiver. He is slow as dirt, however he is amazing at getting open. Plus he can make the weird diving catch behind the cornerback when he is covered really tight. Looks like a pass too dangerous to throw to me, however I am not an NFL quarterback. Another amazingly hard worker. He is also really smart and looks like the Predator. - Keep Brian Hartline: Wow, what a rookie season for the 4th round pick everyone hated. Chad Henne might have a future as a scout for wide receivers. The story was Chad Henne loved him after working out with him. It paid off. He has pretty good speed. He has amazing quickness. He gets NFL open. People like to say that he doesn't get super open, however that doesn't happen with quickness. That happens with route running and good field vision. Like Davone Bess. Put him one on one against a cornerback and he can get a step. That is NFL quickness. For his size he is amazingly quick. Plus he can go up and make the big catches. I am very excited for his potential. He does need to improve on his catches over the middle. Only Camarillo had less catches over the middle than this guy. If he can get to the point where he can hold on the ball while hit, look out. - Keep Ryan Grice-Mullen: He will be the Chris Williams of this season. The guy who they want to take the return duties. Lets hope he doesn't let the opportunity bounce off his face like Chris Williams did. Ryan did well in that role in the CFL. He does have the extra bonus of being good friends of Davone. That isn't much of an extra bonus though. He still could get cut. - KEEP Greg Camarillo: I do believe the question the Dolphins will have do they go for depth or potential. Greg is a fine special teamer, has great hands, decent route runner. He is one of those players you want on your team. However he is also more like Ricky Proel. One of those really decent wide receivers who have long careers, however isn't special. Well NFL special. Technically everyone who makes it to the NFL is freaking amazing. I am not one who likes depth for depth sake and Dolphins did not have 5 wide receivers active very often in the last two years. - CUT/Traded Taurus Johnson: Miami has 4 scrub wide receivers and they all have something in common. They are over 6 foot and they are fast. To me this means Miami is looking for speed at wide receiver and not willing to spend for it. Of the 4 fast scrub wide receivers Taurus Johnson intrigues me the most. He had really good OTAs and he even had one day where he competed against himself for the most amazing play of the day. He has amazing quickness, great vision, good size and good to great speed. His hands look to be good too. The question of course is route running. I do think he is in the running for the Brian Manning off season amazing receiver award. - Keep Marlon Moore: 1987. Really? Born in 1987? Where did all the time go? What am I doing with my life? Jerk making me feel old. -CUT Patrick Turner: Really? 1987. I did not realize he was so young. I do think he is eligible for practice squad and I do not think anyone will pluck him off after last season. He is tall though. - CUT Julius Pruitt: I wonder if he is related to James Pruitt. I hated that guy as a kid. - CUT Roberto Wallace: Size and speed. This guy has an amazing combination of size and speed. He is a shoe in to compete in the pro day olympics. - CUT Tight End: Here is a position that does not excite me at all. Here is a position that played so bad that people were missing David Martin. MISSING DAVID MARTIN!!! So much revisionist history, people actually made the argument that lack of David Martin was the reason why Miami's passing game got worse. That is how sucky the tight ends were last season. They were so bad that they made David Martin look like Antonio Gates to Dolphins fans. Anthony Fasano: I am not an Anthony Fasano fan. There are things I like about him. His run blocking is good. He also does come up with some big plays. However the guy is a body catcher. He does not catch with his hands. Look at this amazing year with Pennington who can throw the ball accurately in a basket. Most of his catches were against his chest or stomach. However give him a quarterback where he needs to catch with his hands, he struggles. I would like Miami to improve at the tight end position, however for that to happen someone will have to step up. If you go by Dolphin fans if a rookie isn't amazing then he will always suck. At least that is what the boards seem to say. - Keep Joey Haynos: Is he even in Madden? He is tall. He should be better in the red zone. He is not better in the red zone. Why isn't he better in the red zone?!?!??! At least he is tall. To me he seems like a player that Dolphins wish was better than he actually is. Mostly because he is so tall. Did I mention the fact that he is tall. - Keep John Nalbone: Here is a case where everyone is down on him because he was a rookie and everyone knows that rookies never improve. That is impossible. I do not know much about him. He went to a college that a lot of people know is a college because the name is written next to his name on the roster. There isn't great tape available on him. Apparently he is the tight end that the FO loves. However he wasn't last year. I am going to vote for improvement. GO TEAM DEVELOPMENT!!! - Keep Kory Sperry: Kory is like that hot girl you meet who got drunk one day at gave you a great bj. So you start to hang out with her and get her drinks, hoping for another bj and yet it never comes. Comes out his first game and catches 3 balls and a touchdown and then nothing. Not even a lick. - CUT Offensive Line: Some people say that Miami had the best run blocking offensive line in the league. Until injuries hit them, they did. They were dangerous at run blocking. Then injuries hit and then they were pretty good at run blocking. For a successful offensive line when healthy there is a lot more churn that a person would expect. In fact there could be two and maybe even three new starters. All in the interior. Jake Grove: A player I was against signing because of his injuries, like John Smiley. Like John Smiley he did really awesome until he got injured. Why does the FO like paying injury prone linemen so much money? Hopefully he stays healthy because he is awesome – Keep Joe Berger: Mmmmm Berger. Umm, Homer Simpson moment aside, I remember when Saban signed him thinking he would be a great back up. Picked up again by the Dolphins and Saban was proven right. He wasn't as good as Grove, however he did really good. Great Depth – Keep Richie Incognito: Huh, NFL.com has him at center. I didn't know he could play center. He is a player that Sparano loves. I do not understand the signing. He is a grade A douche. He is like that jerk who your female friend likes who you keep on telling to dump. She finally dumps that jerk and now he is dating your sister. You tell your sister that the guy is a jerk, however she keeps on telling you that he changed. Man that is like the 3rd or 4th female analogy I have used. I have issues. - CUT Donald Thomas: Miami has what I like to call a quality problem at Guard. It is like the guy you know who has two hot women who are awesome and complains to you that he is just too happy with both of them and he doesn't know which one to pick. Even though both of them are perfectly fine waiting for him. Might as well keep these relationship analogies going. Donald Thomas went from future star to fighting for a spot really quickly. People laughed at me when I compared him to Rex Hadnot, however they weren't laughing when Donald was about as effective at passing blocking as Hadnot. He isn't that quick. Still, I do believe he will make the team. - KEEP Nate Garner: Wow, what a surprise. Good enough at center, can play tackle and did good at guard. Who saw that coming? I cringed when he was going in and turns out he did awesome. Well not awesome, just pretty good. No Smiley when healthy. He is also battling for starter, however he is good enough to keep for depth. - KEEP Dimitri Tsoumpas: Maybe I just have vision of Mark Dixon dancing in my head, however this guy was a monster in the CFL. He was the second pick in the draft. The amazing part to me is the fact that CFL is where the pass is king. He had 30 225 bench presses. He was nominated for most outstanding rookie. That is crazy. People think the NFL is a passing league, however it is nothing compared to the CFL. They only have 4 downs. I am the bandwagon and I believe he is going to start. - KEEP John Jerry: I do not know what to think about this pick. 3rd round pick is decently high for a lineman, so I do believe Miami expect big things from John. He was Miami's only offensive draft pick and is regarded by many draft pages I looked at as great pick for Miami. Supposedly a devastating run blocker. The more reading on John I made he reminded me of someone. Donald Thomas. Miami already has a Donald Thomas, in Donald Thomas. Maybe John can do better pass blocking. Still this draft pick and signing of Cognito and Tsoumpas tells me that Miami still wants to run it up the gut on teams. - KEEP Andrew Hartline: You see there are two side to every Hartline. There is an upper side and the down side. Andrew got the downside. He is the lesser Hartline on the team. -CUT Ray Feinga: I just learned he was on the team by reading the roster. That is always a good sign. Feinga is Tongan for camp fodder – CUT Jake Long: One of the best at his position. He is freak. A 6'7” over 300lb offensive lineman who looks like he was chiseled in stone. If Michelangelo was still alive he would weep and commit suicide because he could never chisel a statue as perfect as Jake Long. He doesn't have the quickest feet, however he makes up for it in pure power. An amazing player – KEEP Vernon Carey: One of those players who people do not like because they would rather Miami draft someone else. He is a fine player who had some injuries last year. Came out of nowhere to be one of the emotional leaders on the team. An awesome run blocker, however he isn't perfect against the pass. He can get beat bad sometimes and those few times paint the entire picture to some fans. Still he is worth every penny Miami has paid him – KEEP Andrew Gardner: I remember when he was drafted I thought he would make a fine back up. I am assuming he still does. - KEEP Lydon Murtha – Big, athletic, cut. - CUT Corey Proctor: Oh yea Corey Proctor. Here I am already on the defense and I missed this guy. He is umm, well, umm. He will be going against Gardner for the top back up position. At least he is a rocker. ROCK OUT! – CUT (only because I forgot about him) Defense: Here is a unit that needs to improve. They were horrid last season. Horrid. I think losing Will Allen and keeping Kilbril Wilson hurt them a lot last season. Defensive Line: The strength of the defense. Pretty good bunch of guy. Also a young bunch of guys. They have a lot of potential on this unit. Randy Starks: Randy Starks had an arguable pro bowl season last season. He out totally exceeded all of my expectations when Miami signed him. Before coming to the Dolphins his biggest claim to fame was smashing Kellen Winslow. Well I think that was him. I can't find it on youtube. I never thought I would actually say that about anything. Dogs going down on a goat, of course I can find that on youtube. Now he is going to move to nose guard. That is an interesting idea. I do not know if I like it. Take Miami's biggest playmaking defensive end and move him to nose guard. Well I hope it works – KEEP Kendall Langford: Drafted to be a plugger, turns out he is a plugger. What a plugger he has been. He started the trend of players drafted at the same position and the lower one doing better. He looks like he was made for the position and has done well in his first two years – KEEP Phillip Merling: I am hoping for bigger things from him. Someone who has converted to his position. Made a few big plays here and then. Needs to be more consistent. - KEEP Jared Odrick: A surprise draft pick. One of the positions I did not think Miami would take with the first pick, they pick it. I also did not know about Starks to nose guard. Still surprising. Reading his bio he looks to be a good contributor to starter in day one. Hard worker, good athlete, play maker. - KEEP Lionel Dotson: I do not understand why the coaches like him so much. He hasn't shown me anything. He must be awesome in practice. Supposedly looks good rushing the passer. When he was in the game I did not see someone who was good at rushing the passer. - CUT Ryan Baker: Also know as the next Shane Burton. Kidding. The joke is, they are both white and all white players play a like. Get it? Here is a player that did show me something. He actually looked good rushing the passer. He might be everything that the FO wished Lionel Dotson was. - KEEP Tony McDaniel: He was OK – Keep Ikaiaka Alama-Francis: I never want to type that again. Felt so unnatural. I wonder if he is a prince like the professional wrestler. - CUT Jason Fergunson: I got good news and bad news. The bad news is that he is suspended for 8 games. The good news is that I saved 15% on my car insurance switching to Geiko. - INSURANCE Paul Soliai: One of those players who this is the year the light has to turn on. Needs to be more consistent. Constancy is what keeps a player from being average to being good. He can make some good plays, however he can also get taken out of a play. We will see this year. He is at least a good rotational player – KEEP Travis Ivey: Could be a surprise. - CUT Linebacker: Retooled position. Only one returning starter and there is a chance he might not be a starter or return. Karlos Dansby: One of the biggest off season acquisitions. Some might say he is over paid due to his lack of domination at his position. However looking at Miami's play at inside linebacker last season, they could stand a little over payment if they good play. Linebacker is still an important position in the 3-4. He will be a good leader for the defense – KEEP Channing Crowder: He is fighting for his roster spot. Without being a starter he isn't worth his price. Not a special teamer. However he does have the edge being the better player at his position compared to his competition. His biggest competition is with his body. If he wins and stay healthy he will be a good force for Miami. If he catches the injury bug he might find himself in the UFL – KEEP Tim Dobbins: Little known fact. Dobbins is irish for 'the grass is always greener on the other side.” If I went by what fans have said about this guy I should wait for his name in the Ring of Honor. However going by reality he looks to be an improvement over Tobor. Which shouldn't be hard. I say shouldn't because it took two freaking years for Miami to find an improvement over Tobor. Also should improve special teams. - KEEP J.D. Folsom: Someone who did not think he would be invited last season to camp. Not only was he invited he actually made the team. Didn't really do much. In my opinion Miami wants a linebacker who can cover. They hoped that J.D. Folsom would be that guy. He wasn't. - CUT A.J. Edds: Someone who I keep reading about his coverage skills as a linebacker. He could be the J.D. Folsom that Miami always wanted. - KEEP Charlie Anderson: If mediocrity had a face it would look a lot like Charlie Anderson. He is OK, decent, blah, I am out. I need a thesaurus. A dinosaur who can tell me different words for the same thing. Anyways I haven't been impress with him. I want him replaced. - CUT Cameron Wake: An exciting player. Great pass rusher. I am excited to see what he can do. I do think he can't be any worse against the run that Porter. Porter was horrid. HORRID!!!! Against the pass in coverage, well that is a different animal. Porter was decent. DECENT!!!! Wake might have to grow up fast if my dream of cutting Anderson can come to existence. - KEEP Koa Misi: My first thought when he was drafted was, “who?” Then I read who he was and the second thought was, “nice.” He looks like a potential answer to the outside linebacker position. Has good size, good quickness and a motor. Not known for his pass rushing abilities, however is known for his good play. I like good play – KEEP Quentin Moses: I could make some bible jokes right now. Quentin is a weird player. He is a higher drafted player who got cut, signed by Miami and didn't do much. Showed some skills last season. Some people would be comfortable with him starting. Those people are people I do not want running my football team. He does seem to be decent depth. Cheaper than Charlie Anderson. - KEEP Eric Walden: Here is a player who is pretty decent at special teams. Special teams is pretty important. I haven't seen anything on him that makes me think he is going to be more than a special teamer. - CUT Austin Spitler: I am going to call him the new Eric Walden. Special teams looks to be where this guy is going to make the team. Another player who is decent in coverage. A little raw. At least that is what I have been reading. - KEEP Chris McCoy: Here is an interesting player. He is a player whose light didn't turn on until he was a senior and he played on a college that was neither a north or a south and a state. Generally if it is both a direction and a state, the college is small. Add in the fact that it is a direction and not a north or a south then that means it is even smaller. That is how it works. By paper he looks like a player who Miami would have to keep him on the team for a few years and he has to learn the position. If he does go crazy and play well he could capture a special teams spot. Or he also can surprise everyone and keep on improving and actually come in on passing downs. Chances are he is practice squad material. However I am an optimist – KEEP Defensive backs: Needs improvement from last year. Very much so. God so much so. SO MUCH IMPROVEMENT NEEDED. It also has by far Miami's weakest position. Will Allen: He is coming back. The oldest player on defense by far. Not counting Jason Ferguson because he isn't on the team until he isn't suspended. And he is still younger than me. So depressing. All my NFL dreams are gone. GONE! If he can come back from injury he helps the secondary a lot. For one he can do really well in the slot. Also I do believe the younger corners would gain benefit from actually seeing him play live and having him actually on the field. - KEEP Vontae Davis: I love this guy. If I was a woman I would want him to be my baby daddy. I love watching him play. His ability to tackle is amazing. The quick pass or screen pass to his side are useless. He needs to do better at letting up the big play. However as a rookie I thought he did outstanding. He also is a player who is working damn hard to improve. He has the talent to coast and have a pretty good career. If what I am reading is true then he has a great work ethic. The sky is the limit for this guy – KEEP Sean Smith: He is a monster at corner. His tackling is about average corner, which is bad, however his coverage is pretty good. He does an excellent job at fly patterns. He is a cornerback where NFL open is not enough. He is just too tall to fit the ball over. He didn't have any interceptions last year, even though he did make an great play that lead to one of Vontae's interception. His preseason interception against the Saints last year was one of the best plays I have ever seen. The look on Mark Brunell's face was priceless. Not too many teams tried that pass on Sean Smith after that. Having a defensive player that offense has to plan around is an asset to have. Sean Smith is the type of player that has that potential. If he improves then the sky is the limit for him as well. I think Miami has potential one of the best corner combos in the league and if they both do continue to improve and Miami can pay them both, they could go down as one of the best of all time. I am really excited to see both of them play – KEEP Jason Allen: A player who is a bust. However if you grade busts and Grade A bust is Jamarcus Russell, Jason Allen would be a Grade D bust. He actually played through his entire contract and contributed. How many busts can say that? He is one of the best special teamers on the team and if broken down one might can make an argument the league. He is an amazing athlete. However he is missing something. That something must be mental. I do not really know. I have spent my years as a fan watching players who played safety much worse than Jason Allen get more playing time. Cris Crocker who was horrible, Gibril Wilson who was horrible and Cameron Worrell who made it look like Miami had 10 players on the field all got playing time ahead of him. I do not understand it. Yet he is still on the team, which I also do not understand. I know there is no cap, however the owners do not become rich by wasting millions of dollars on special teamers. Due to the importance of special teams, the lack of the cap and the fact he is a decent back up in the secondary, he makes the team. Even though his salary is higher than everyone else's in the secondary who is starting ahead of him. Well maybe not Will Allen. - KEEP Nate Ness: <Insert Wide Reciever's Name> got a big play today from <Insert quarterback's Name> against cornerback Nate Ness – CUT Nolan Carroll: He is an athlete. Some people have said he is starter material. More people say he is very raw. I say he is very cut – CUT Ross Weaver: Seems like a nice guy. I do not want his father to be mad at me. So no joke here. - CUT Yeremiah Bell: I have a speed fetish. I admit it. I love speed. Yeremiah Bell has speed. Easiest way to figure out someone has no idea what they are talking about is when they talk about Yeremiah Bell's lack of speed. Yeremiah Bell could be why Jason Allen isn't playing. CKParrotHead talked about that a few years ago and he had a good point. Yeremiah Bell is like a wild dog you unleash on a battlefield. He is devastating to the opponent and can strike fear. The negative is sometime the wild dog will attack your troops. Sometimes he is just too aggressive. A lot of big plays are because he bites on the run. He is someone you want more in run coverage and mid range coverage. Not deep coverage because he is just too aggressive. Not a ball hawk, however he has been one of the few consistent play makers on defense. Plus he is fast. - KEEP Tyrone Culver: Lets go back to the female analogies. Tyrone is the perfect housewife who loves your children and is an amazing mother. However you just do not want to have sex with her. The excitement is out of your relationship. Tyrone is fine at his position. He is good at preventing the big play and once in a while gets an interception. However he isn't sexy at all. Not even a little bit sexy. There is nothing sexy about him. He is a player you want more as a back up than a starter. However he might be the best to start because he can allow Yeremiah to go crazy because he is capable of keeping his cool. He is like a small tamed dog that always attacks the enemy, however only bites the enemies heels. Yes the enemy will be distracted because that is annoying and you can run your sword through him, spilling his guts out into the battlefield. However, the surviving enemies will laugh at you for having a whimpy dog. - KEEP A.J. Wallace: Quick google search tells me that he is a candidate for a return guy. Only a one year starter at corner. Most likely A.J. CUT – CUT Chris Clemons: He has long hair. He is a dirty hippie. At least that is what Rush Limbaugh tells me what long hair means. Needs to learn how to meditate like Rickey and cut his hair so he can become a clean hippie. He is a fast player. Showed the ability to get on the field last year. Didn't show a lot, however he was a rookie. Wow rookie struggling in the secondary, amazing. Playing in the NFL is so easy, no rookies ever struggle. It is hard to tell whether he is going to become a starter, as he is the sexier player. He is like the woman who is hot, however can she cook and take care of the kids? So that is the Dolphins choice. Do they go after the new hottness or stay with their wife? - KEEP Reshad Jones: I watched his highlight film and I wanted to see more. He looked OK. Very OK. His hits were decently hard, however he is not Michael Mitchell. His coverage looked decent, however it wasn't enough to get me excited. He does have good special teams potential. - KEEP Evan Oglesby: He has been in the league 4 years and has changed teams 5 times. He was on the Ravens twice. There must be something about him that is worth keeping on the team. If there was a minor league in the NFL he probably would be a star. Why isn't there a minor league for the NFL? That is so stupid that there isn't. I would imagine it would make enough money. Each team should have a team and the team should be in a smaller market that they want to grow. Like Green Bay could have a team in Milwaukee and Seattle could have a team in Tacoma or Spokane or even Portland. Give LA a minor league team and call them the USC Trojans. BOOM! Topical joke! - CUT Amaya Jonathan: Funny his name is misspelled on NFL.com. He is a football player. Reading and watching his highlights he looks like another player who could make his mark around special teams. In OTAs he was singled out for always being near the ball and making plays. That was without pads, so if there is professional flag football he has a career. Still he is willing to give up body to make hard hits and seems to be smart. One of the players who I just like. - KEEP Special Teams: Who wants to write about special teams? Dan Carpenter: Ooo I am a kicker. Oooo I play football. Ooo I am from Montana. Good player – KEEP Brandon Fields: Ooo I am a punter. Oooo I am barely even a football player. At least he is huge. Still punter? Why do I waste my time writing about this position. I do hope he can improve his directional kicks – KEEP John Denny: What an interesting position to play. A position where his entire goal is to spend his entire career with his name NEVER being mentioned. If the average fan never hears of him, then he is a success. One of the most unappreciated positions in the NFL. Every year a fan will try to mention the fact that he doesn't do anything else and they should replace him with a player who can do more than long snap. However that is a great idea on paper. In real life, you do not want to mess with the long snapping position. It is such an important position that the NFL really should have a roster exemption for Long Snapper. Also they could put another real football player on the field. - KEEP definitely KEEP. Overall: Going through this I believe that Miami has some of the best depth in a long time. Especially in the guard, linebacker and safety positions. There are going to be some hard cuts this year. I do think there is going to be at least one Bernie Parmalee type cut. A player that is going to piss a lot of the forum fanbase off. The regular fanbase probably won't care because most of them do not even know who Patrick Cobbs is. The Dolphins also have a really young team. There is a lot of potential on this team. They do need a lot of that potential to turn into kinetic. The season cannot start fast enough. I hate the offseason. I hope this waste of time at least gives you a little less pain. Or at least something new to be pissed off about. That is almost as fun.
More than likely, the one thing to keep in mind with him is he is a ST daemon, his tryout as a Te could just as easily an effort to see if he is an H-Back ala Mike Sellers. Hope he makes it, that is all on him he has to show it. Procter is his nemesis, in 09: That is 8 Guards, but they opened the pre-season with: The final roster only had Berger, Murphy, Thomas, Smiley. Incognito, Thomas, Jerry, Garner...or Tsoumpas or Proctor.
Yeah..... then you end up with some crazy girl that makes you wish you hadn't let her go.....only to find out it's too late cuz she married some dude you hate... (Cammy ending up on the Pats)
Or she winds up being fat with 4 kids by different daddies...but that prom night.. Sometimes JS, the GF just has to show ya somethin'...know what I mean? Recall last season no one saw Brandon London being cut?
Pads.....he's the most sure handed WR in the N.......F........L Sometimes you just have to be happy and settle for Winnie Cooper
Winnie Cooper ain't buying you a Lexus for your B-Day JS...at the end of the day she is just Winnie Cooper. Now let me add, I rewatched the first Bills game and Greg C was Henne's go to guy, his 15 yd from the LOS game is rock solid and Henne trusts him, but to use your anti P White argument: Who would you rather Henne throw to, Greg C, or Brandon Marshall? Why take BMarsh off of the field for Greg C?
I wouldn't....... but BMarsh can't play every play, neither can Hartline or Bess....and that "rock solid 15yds from the LOS" game, is invaluable on 3rd down
while reading your thoughts on crowder I got a visual of him playing special teams..lol...dude would get killed on ST.
It would be a problem if there wasn't already 3 other sure things that can do the same thing he does. Sure things go 8-8 and do not win superbowls.
Probably be just about Camarillo. People cannot let that opinion of mine go and love to paint him as the third coming of Jesus. 2nd coming being Welker. Miami needs a deep threat.
I love the meaning of the world liberal in today's lexicon. When that word first came about it was used as a means to identify those who were actually democratic in their beliefs. Now, it is meant as an insult in many circles. I'm so glad I got out of going into politics, I wouldn't have made it.
I don't think it's worth discussing anymore to be honest. You've been saying Miami should cut Camarillo since 2008. Fortunately, FO recognizes work ethic, dependability, and great hands aren't easy to come by. One of these years you might be right about Greg Camarillo and he will be cut / traded. But it won't be this year. Personally, I hope he retires a Dolphin. Other than that, great write up! I really enjoyed it.
What if you've found some amazing ho off the street (Bess) and you get her sister (Grice-Mullen) to come visit because you're imagining a hot threesome. Do you kick Winnie to the curb to make room or do you make Brandon Marshall your bottom *****? (I'm starting to chafe...)
the x-factor will be coaching got the raw material to work with on the roster Nolan may prove to be our #1 acquisition for the season coach them up big time & make the right calls then, we will contend in 2010
Great write up DFD, haven't had time to digest it all, heck I haven't even finished reading it yet. But I sure appreciate the work and effort. I'll tear it apart later
Bro, there are some things I don't know about, and really don't want to know about..at all... I think that is the last time I compare NFL players to GF's in any manner, shape or form. Depends, RGM has to show what he can do as he has to carve a role for himself as a Returner/Wr/even Jet Sweep player in the WC as he did in the CFL.
Great write-up! I really enjoyed your S position analogies. As for your roster decisions, I think you're ignoring the fact that players who are the coaches favorites are rarely cut. They are usually coaches favorites for a reason. Cam, Incognito and Cobbs will all make the team. Cobbs is the only one who might not be recovered and in that case he would go on IR not be cut. Also David Martin was a huge factor in our decrease in offensive effectiveness, not b/c he was such a great player, but b/c he was the only player we had that threatened the deep seam. Without him, the defenses could sit in a cover-2 and keep their LBs up. Basically, it allowed defenses to more easily defend the other areas of the field that we could attack and made things more difficult for the rest of our offense.
One injury to those 3 and all of a sudden were wishing for Cammy again. Or are people forgetting the playoff game where they would have literally pulled fans from the stands if they could to fill in at WR due to the injuries! Not to mention Cammy will be the prime sub and can play all 3 spots. The guy is clutch...you don't get rid of clutch players.
I agree with Greg C's value to the roster, with one caveat, he isn't immovable, and if Turner, RGM, T Johnson, J Pruitt show enough he could be unseated, but right now he is quality depth, sorta plain, dowdy depth, but a good all around player. Comparing 08 to 2010 is no contest though.
Nobody is immovable, but realistically you would need two of those guys to be capable of being 80 reception WRs as 1st year players for Cam to lose his roster spot. That is practically an impossibility. The odds of even finding one first year player that could come out of the gate with that kind of ability are astronomical unless you're bringing in a top draft pick. Realistically, the best you can hope for from our late round picks and UDFAs (and Turner who most believe we took way too high) is to find one of those guys that can bring a speed element to the WR corps (in addition to Hartline) and contribute on STs. That player won't be anywhere near as complete as Cam and he will most likely be a considerable downgrade as a WR for another couple years, but he'll help round out the skill sets available for our offense.
Sort of, however if BHart wins the Starters job, Greg C drops to #4 on the depth chart, he is more or less looking at a 35-45 catch season, that is very doable for Turner or one of the UDFA's if they show enough as Wr's or Returners. At worst, that would mean Greg C would not active on every game day barring injuries. Would you rather have a explosive Returner active on Gamedays, or Greg C? That is a good problem to have imho.
I don't think you'll see that clear of a distinction. You'll see Hartline, Cam and Bess split the snaps opposite Marshall fairly evenly. You have to remember that a recovering Cam last year had the most snaps of any WR on our team. He is not going to drop to near irrelevance this year. Most likely Cam will be the guy who is most often used to spell Marshall. He's also still the odds on favorite to be the #2 guy. IF Hartline develops then Hartline might become the clear #2 by the end of the year, but most likely those two will just share snaps at the #2 all season. Cam is also the guy who is the best back-up for all three positions. So even if Hartline develops enough to become a clear #2 this year, Cam is still going to get at least 300+ snaps at a minimum (my guess is that Cam will end up with at least 400 snaps). I think you'll be hard pressed to find any of the young WRs prospects who will be developed enough to warrant that this year.
i disagree on your wildcat thoughts regarding cobbs, the wildcat was basically dead, when ronnie got hurt, that was the reason, not cobbs
Cammy was the least productive Wr last season Rafi, hands down, in 600+ snaps 50 receptions 29 first downs, no TD's, compare that to even DBess: 76 receptions, 2 TD's, 48 first downs in 100 fewer plays.
The story those numbers don't tell is that Bess had more than a couple games last year where he did a pretty lousy job taking care of the ball. I don't remember how many, but do remember some crucial fumbles.
But those aren't the only stats that matter to the coaches. Cam was also the WR most often used in run plays. While the NFL is a passing league and we do pass more than we run, we still run quite a bit. And when we do run, Cam has been the most common WR in. Not only is that a factor in your productivity stats, but it also shows another area where he is contributing which the coaches value.
When Cobbs got hurt the Wildcat started to have a lot of problems. Some people believed that was because people were blitzing their cornerbacks. During this time though Ronnie was still on the field. Ronnie getting hurt did put the final nail on the coffin for the wildcat last year.
I do not agree that coaches favorites are rarely cut. I have seen many times when coaches love players and end up having to cut them. Good coaches can put their personal likes behind for the good of the team. I also do not agree with people with the idea of 3rd runningback and 4th wide receiver being positions where the player has his roster spot down tight. Unless they are young talented developmental players that are high draft picks they have to earn their position every year. I do not agree about David Martin at all. I do think it hurt to lose David Martin. I do not think losing him was a major factor in the offense being less pass efficient. Ted Ginn's regression had much more of an impact than losing David Martin ever could.
That is a point I did bring up. Do you keep a player who won't get much playing time for depth or do you go with potential? That is a question NFL coaches have to answer each year. Sometimes they go with the depth, sometimes they go with potential.
