Seriously... here's a conversation between me and the average Dolfan...
Me: So what do you think of our offseason so far?
Dolfan: We're ****ed!!!
Me: Could you elaborate a little?
Dolfan: Ross is a ****ing douche nugget!
Me: How so?
Dolfan: We can't get the coach we want. We failed on Harbaugh. We failed on Fisher. All because Jeff Ireland is a bum!
Me:
Dolfan: Go ahead and laugh!!
Me: What is your solution?
Dolfan: .... .... .....
Me: Are you okay?
Dolfan: <drools>
Me: What can Ross do to help the team now?
Dolfan: Sell the team to a real owner!
Me: You mean one that is willing to spend whatever it takes to win a SuperBowl?
Dolfan: Yeah!!
Me: Like Stephen Ross?
Dolfan: ... .... .... Fire Jeff Ireland!!
Me: Who should replace Jeff Ireland?
Dolfan: Not Carl Peterson!
Me: Who is this "Not Carl Peterson" fella?
Dolfan: Trade whatever it takes for Andrew Luck!!
Me: That's what a real GM should do?
Dolfan: Championship!!

Paul,
This is a funny read and all, but I think you and others might be missing a key point here -
As fans we have the luxury to criticize Owners, GMs, coaches, players, etc without actually knowing who or what their replacement should be. It doesn't mean we're stupid. It usually just means we are not professionally employed by the NFL in any capacity, i.e., FANS.
Yeah, sometimes fans unjustly criticize. And we're never patient. But it's equally ridiculous, IMHO, to ALWAYS defend a teams players, coaches, GMs, owners when they clearly are not getting the job done. Ireland and Ross have earned a fair amount of criticism. But we're probably stuck with them.
It would be nice if we could all find a nice happy middle ground. But then these debates would be nowhere near as much fun / ridiculous. -

As much as I'd love to quit my job and devote my entire life playing catch up to these guys who have been involved with the NFL most of their professional lives, I don't have that luxury.
So, I guess I'm a sheep. Even though I know I'm not qualified, I enjoy speculating on who might be the best options at coach / gm / QB / etc. And that's all any of us fans do. Any of you who think you're doing differently are either a. kidding yourselves; or b. very generous to spend your time educating the rest of us fans while depriving the NFL of your valuable and professional insight.
Don't get me wrong, Paul. It's ok to call out fans who make stupid statements. And all of us say stupid things over the course of thousands of posts. But to suggest a fan can't criticize a team without having professional knowledge of who their replacement should be is a little unrealistic, in my humble opinion. -
