It is all about to unravel for the Jets, just wait for it. I will admit, I'm extremely jealous of their post-season success the last two seasons but I can say with confience that they set up a plan to win now (the opposite of Belichick's plan that has had the Patriots winning for 10 years) and it's going to catch up with them either this year or next. I think it's this year but, if it not, next year for sure that team will be sub .500.
As for the defenses, their line hinges a lot on unprovens. Shaun Ellis has been a good player but he's not getting any younger and his play leveled off a little last year. Muhammed Wilkerson is a late 1st round rookie playing a position that is difficult to learn at this level. Sione Pihoua is a lot like Paul Soliai, had a great year but we don't know that it was rule or the exception. Mike DeVito is just another guy and Trevor Pryce is older than my grandpa.
Their pass-rushers are all old too. Calvin Pace is probably their best, but he had a down year and looks like he's a step slower off the snap. Jason Taylor and Bryan Thomas, bleh. Bart Scott in the middle is like Crowder, he's a better talker than player. He does diagnose well and is pretty fluent in his lateral movement. He can overpuruse too often, though. David Harris is the best of this bunch, just an all around good player.
The secondary is pretty good. Darrell Revis is Darrell Revis and Jim Leonhard is one of those guys that just doesn't impress you anywhere except between the lines on game day; true definition of a gamer. I think Kyle Wilson is a terrific corner but the jury is still out on him. Eric Smith did a fine job filling in when Leonhard went out and Brodney Pool is just another guy.
I don't think their going to be a top unit for much longer. Rex is a great defensive coach but I don't know if scheme will be able to overcome the regression in his player's skills.
