As my column suggests, I'm truly on the fence regarding Rex Hadnot:
http://www.realfootball365.com/nfl/articles/20907.html
He's a gritty veteran that has the respect of his fellow linemates, but at the same time, I'm fairly sure that he's just a marginal talent.
Should he be a part of the offensive blueprint moving forward into the Parcells era?
Should Rex Hadnot be a part of the offensive blueprint?

Yes, Hadnot should be a starting guard for the Dolphins

Yes, but only as a versatile backup (if the cap number works)

Ack, sorry Hugo - I thought we were talking Shelton for a second there and I picked the wrong option. I like Hadnot at guard, and I think he can certainly be a part of the line. He's fairly cheap as well. The only issues on the OL I see are RT and LG at this point, and Hadnot's play this year certainly earned him a contract in my opinion. However, I'm not the HC, and it may well be decided that the line has to have more new blood in it than the spots I mentioned earlier.
-
I think we should try our hardest to keep Hadnot. IMO, we have three holes filled on the O-line (Vernon Carey, LT or RT. Samson Satele, C. Rex Hadnot, RG). I say we try to keep those holes filled so we can focus on the other holes during the draft.

Re-signing Hadnot might be a worth while move IF...we can get the right price. It would save us from spending a high choice on RG, since we have a hole at LG. I was suprised he graded out like he did. I thought I remembered more penalty's on him. I know he seemed to me to get beaten more than Hugo's article. Good article Hugo, both on Satele, and Rex.

We've spent a lot of time filling holes that were only holes because we let the previous starter go because "he wanted too much money" and "didn't represent value for the 'phins". If we had a young up and coming lineman who was healthy to replace him then fine let him walk, but since that isn't the case let's keep him.
-
Upgrade, it's really a no-brainer when you realize Parcells is power run type of guy.
-
Good points all! It's definitely going to come down to money and young talent that could fill the void. That being the case, I have to believe that Hadnot will be back for at least the '08 season.

6 years 30 million 10 to 12 guaranteed is his asking price. -

I had been on the fence with Hadnot as well. But in 2008 and beyond, I've decided (for myself only, obviously) that I've had enough of waiting years for marginal talents to develop...too much heartbreak, and it inevitably clouds your judgment so that by year four you don't even know what the hell to think.
Enough. No more players who show flashes of competence - or even brilliance - while otherwise performing at mediocre-to-adequate level most of the time.
Cases in point: Chris Chambers; Wade Smith; Morlon Greenwood; Derrick Pope; Derek Hagan...the list is long and sad.
There are far, far too many players out there to be had; in the draft, if you're a management team that knows your schemes and picks to the prototypes, unlike our past administrations - and in free agency, if you use good judgment and don't sign asshats like Joey Porter to ball-and-chain contracts which haunt you for years.
Don't believe me? Just look north to Belichik and Pioli's New England Patriots. Their roster is largely made up oif players who - while not spectacular talents, or even guys who are brilliant in one aspect of their game but fall short in others - are CONSISTENT and SOLID.
No more Chris Chambers'; let him go catch balls with his chest pads and play his chicken****, alligator-armed game somewhere else. Good riddance.
No more Travis Minor's; despite his excellence on special teams, he took up a roster spot at a position where he didn't fit - a position far better served by guys like Chatman, Cobbs, and even Gado. Until the NFL gives teams a couple or three extra roster spots for special teamers, Minor is a luxury that a bad team could never afford.
And by all means, no more Rex Hadnots, who despite playing beside the Center, are flagged for the stupidest penalties at the most inopportune times.
Begone, all of them. Let them go make another team less than it could be.
As for the Dolphins in 2008 and beyond, it's time to build on a solid foundation, not one of "what if's" and "maybe one day's". -
NaboCane- face facts. Chambers is a tremendous talent who didn't let you down as much as his coaches and QB's let him down
[mod] Lets not get personal and stay on the topic please[/mod] Chambers NEVER had consistent QB play except for a brief period when Gus Frerotte was able to feed him the ball the way all top notch receivers are. He is thriving in SD with a QB who isn't even close to playing his best. Gates and the talent around him are helping but Chambers is a very good receiver who would have been great had Wanny/Saban or Sham provided him with any surrounding talent or a QBLast edited by a moderator: Jan 8, 2008 -
In 6 games here he had 415 yards and averaged 70 yards/game
In 10 games in SD he has 555 yards and averages 55 yards per game
He isnt doing anything better there than he was here and you can actually make the point that he was more productive here in 07 than he is there...The only difference is he has 4 TD's in SD and 0 here. 4 TD's in a season hardly constitutes a high level of play.
And to add insult to injury, he has a much better QB and overall team in SD than he did here.Last edited: Jan 8, 2008 -

I would let Parcells decide that
-
Please, he's their number one WR and 4 TD's vs 0 scores is a huge difference. San Diego had no proven or productive wideouts until CC got there. What's their record since he got there- 9-1, 8-2??? Do the math.
Hanging on to this silly idea that he's a nothing player is either sour grapes or delusional, take your pick.
I've seen him play in 4 of their games including the very productive game he had two days ago and you can't tell me he hasn't made them a much better offense and team despite the fact that Rivers still isn't playing at a consistently high level right now.Colorado Dolfan likes this. -
How about putting a bit more priority on developing young talent rather than cutting players who don't develop into sure fire pro-bowlers within 2 years.Last edited: Jan 8, 2008 -
good guards are usually in their 30s....as far as i know he's in his early to mid 20s. he's got plenty of room to grow, and has only got better in his years with us. it would be a shame to see him go, another team would utilize him to the fullest.
-
So yah Houston will sign him day 1 to add to their overpaid Dolphins list ( Morlon/Todd Wade). -
There's no way Hadnot is worth that much money if those are indeed the numbers he's asking for. He's a good pulling guard with his quickness but the rest of his game is mediocre. I've seen glimpses of a great player but those were far too rare occasions to believe he's worth that money. He's also not a Parcell's type of linemen so I can't imagine the him offering anything more than a modest contract, if anything.
There are better offensive linemen than Hadnot in free agency. Travelle Wharton, Jake Scott, Max Starks are some other young options. Faneca, Jordan Gross, and Flozell Adams are some other quality possibilities. -
think we should try our hardest to keep Hadnot. IMO, we have three holes filled on the O-line (Vernon Carey, LT or RT. Samson Satele, C. Rex Hadnot, RG). I say we try to keep those holes filled so we can focus on the other holes during the draft.
Agreed. Those are the only positions on the line where we are fine. Hadnot at RG SHOULD happen. Shelton needs to go. -
The only caveat to be offered is some of those guys may be able play good football, our coaching has been unable to develop them.
Hadnot is Liewinski, only younger..... -
-
Not impressed with him at all. Let Parcells decide if he's worth keeping.
-
It all depends on what Hadnot is looking for $$$-wise. If he's looking to break the bank and be paid like a Steve Hutchinson or Derrick Dockery, forget it. Another name to consider/remember is Drew Mormino, I'm curious to see what a year of lifting weights has done for him.
-
Also, I'm not so sure that I'm as high on Hadnot as you are. -
-
I dunno, next yr is "rebuild" time, I can see DT's coming in, but not a Olineman.
And for Rex, IMO we could do worse, but we could do better resigning him is strictly a Coach's call. -
To the Patrriots, role players are a godsend...because the Pats are already a great team, and those guys make them that much better.
To us - a 1-15 team - those guys are like frosting without a cake.
Sugarless frosting. -
