No reason to pay him 5 if we can get him for less. But if we can't get him for less then I'd rather pay the 5 than put the load on Miller and Thomas.
i also hope jonas gray will have a role upcoming, there is a reason we kept him all year....just like CK mentioned some time ago don' t be shocked if our RB 1-2 are Lamar Miller and Jonas Gray for the future
Lol. Don't be surprised if CK is blasting the FO if Millers shoulder doesn't hold up and Gray turns out to be what most practice squad guys are. Gahbage. If we're going after Mendenhall it suggests the staff is not convinced we have enough at the RB position. Even if we don't sign Mendenhall I'm glad we are looking into upgrading the position. We don't have a single proven guy right now and RM would change that. Joique Bell is another guy who could be a decent insurance policy. I just don't feel comfortable with what we have right now. Tannehill is still a pup so the better out run game is the less we need to rely on him. If we can force teams to over play the run the way we did last year Wallace will terrorize people while Hartline and Bess eat good vs single coverage all season. Ugh I hate this time of year. I'm slobbering over guys we might not even have.
i feel you man, its really tough for me as well, i just want them to upgrade the receiver position so bad, i absolutley have faith in lamar miller, actually i'm pretty excited about him, we probably need another "veteran" as insurance and the more i think about it, the more i like mendenhall as that guy.
Why pay extra money for a position so easily found in the draft. It's not like Mendenhall is a special talent???
1. It may not be a lot of money. 2. He could certainly be better than most draft picks we'd be exploring. 3. While good RBs can be potentially found in many rounds, I would not label any NFL position as easily found.
I thought we needed help at back, wasn't afraid to look at Lacy, Ball, Franklin, or Taylor in the draft but I like the fact that he's a downhill, aggressively natured runner who has some completeness in his game, who's only 25 years old..not opposed to giving Tannehill a very good running game by spending some resources, besides IF we get Wallace, running some power spread sounds good to me with 6 in the box
This move makes very little sense to me. Hopefully the Dolphins get scared off by the price tag and they move on to better options.
This bum has come nowhere close to living up to the potential he had in college. Please tell me we are not going to become some form of the pittsburg "castoffs/washups" Are we going after Harrison next? I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.
Terrible in the red zone, questionable instincts, gets tackled for a loss a lot if I'm not mistaken...just not sure why Miami are onto him. If they are. I think the rumor may be a plant.
Schematically it makes sense. I don't know if you recall but a few years ago, the Steelers played the Jets in the playoffs and Mendenhall lit it up. They ran outside zone literally like 20 times and he was excellent. They haven't been as good (nor has he) since because of the OL being so athletically limited.
This is the type of FA signing I can get on board with. He fits the scheme well. Underachieved in a scheme he is less suited over. Will be relatively cheap. Type of low-level signing that can provide value-added.
Mendenhall is a load when he's motivated. I started predicting Pittsburgh superbowls when they drafted him... Turns out I was half right. Then he let me down in fantasy in 2011.... ( 1st pick )..so I recognize his potential as much as anyone. But I think he would have to come dirt cheap. (1m) Give him a "show me" deal.
Anyone have any opinions on Mendenhall's pass protection? I don't have access to Rewind for the next couple of days, and that seems as if it would be something of increased prominence on this team in the future.
There's been a good amount of advocacy on his behalf on this thread. He's young, he's likely able to give you a good solid workload at very least. There's a good argument for upside because the Steeler's offensive line has been pretty bad while he is there, and that he might be a better guy behind a zone blocking scheme like he had in college.
I haven't sat down to review film, but he was very famously benched in favor of Redman in a couple of games because of his poor pass protection. He is a poor pass receiver as well, but very instinctual runner with that elusive breakaway gear. Just not sure there is anything left in that tank. Too many injuries. Perfect buy VERY low candidate.
