I get that aspect... I hate that college players leave college as fast as possible... and enter into the NFL so incomplete... I wish now that college players can make money... that the NFL would make it so players cannot come from college into the NFL until they were 22 or even 23... That way they are done growing... and are developed... It would be a much better drafting process.
Verse is doing better than Chop but all of the first round pass rushers are underporforming so far this year. TJ watt had 7 sacks his rookie season, Von Millar had 11.5 his rookie year, even our own Jaelen Phillips had 8 sacks his rookie year. A first round pick is expected to come in and produce right away, if you want a developmental player wait until the second day to pick them. That has been a consistent problem with Grier's drafting.
You’re avoiding the question. Other than JP, you’re cherry picking 2 HoF players. Is that your baseline for what makes a player worth a 1st round pick? They better be HoF players?
That is what I was talking about... (When I said, and I quote: "Now that college players can make money.") The NIL My god man... are you that eager to jump on my every post?
I'm looking at the current best pass rushers in the league, not necessarily hall of famers. Joe Bosa had 10.5 as a rookie, Nick Bosa had 9 as a rookie, Myles Garret had 7 as a rookie, Micah Parsons had 13 sacks as a Rookie, Bradley Chubb had 12 sacks as a rookie, Aidan Hutchinson had 9.5 sacks as a rookie, Maxx Crosby had 10.5, I could go on. Usually first rounders who are going to be premier pass rushers will show it and produce significantly their first year. This myth that players need a couple of years to develop and produce is just an excuse we use here in Miami to put a happy face on bad drafting. Great players will usually show their greatness right away. If they don't they are probably not going to be great.
Exactly, if they don’t „bite“ when they’re little they probably won’t „bite“ later on, sure there are exceptions.
the standard we put on rookies in this generation is not normal. let’s see what chop robinson looks like after a couple of offseasons and developing his body and skillset.. lets not write him off as the next Charles Harris just yet after 10 weeks.. i will say i dont know if we got the right people in place to develop him though.. but he can be a game changer and hes got the measurables and frame to be very good
Here's the last 2 years for #1 picks at DE: Latu – 2 sacks Turner - 1 sack Verse – 3.5 Sacks Chop – 1 Sacks Last year Tyree Wilson – 3.5 sacks – 1 sack this year Lukas Van Ness – 4 sacks – 1 sack this year Will McDonald – 8 sacks - 3 sacks this year Miles Murphy – 3 sacks – 0 this year Felix Anudike-Uzomah - .5 sacks – 1.5 sacks this year Except for McDonald he's pretty much par to below par. It's kind of not fair to compare full seasons to 1/2 of seasons as he may or may not get a couple more which would make him average. I know people think that 1st round picks are supposed to be HOF players but that's really not how it works.
Your standards are too low. 1st round picks should be expected to start and contribute significantly right away. Developmental prospects who need a couple of years to start producing should be day 2 picks.
Your standards are too low, we can already bet on which one of these will turn out to be great based on their production so far, and Chop is towards the bottom of the list. And again, I don’t want us spending 1st round picks on developmental prospects who are not ready to contribute right away.
Unless you pick an athletic freak (which Grier does to often imo) but you still wanna see flashes, Buffalo was a good start.
Well it depends.... Some first round pass rushers are taken top 3 or 5 and considered the. Best player in the entire draft... So if I took a guy top 3 .. hell yes I expect him to be ready to go day one. Like I said with Chop, the scouting report clearly stated he was athletic, but NOT a finished product.... That is why he did not go top 3 or 5 or 10.
I Not wanting to develop a first round pick is valid... But for certain positions like left tackle even some of the best take time to be impact players in the NFL
Sorry should have quoted HitMan. Something weird is happening where it's double posting and not picking the correct posts.
Yeah, but Nick Bosa tore his ACL in 2020 and missed all but 2 games. I’m sure if he were a Dolphins at that time you would have criticized the FO for drafting an “injury prone player”. But again, you’re cherry picking. Dan Marino threw for over 5,000 yards his first full season. Any QB that doesn’t do that ain’t worth a 1st round pick, right?
I tried to step down but no one else would do it. I really just want to be able to post. It doesn’t make it fun to be the PoPo.
Moderating a message board is a lot like being the commish of a FF league. Everyone wants to play.... Nobody wants to do the leg work... Everyone wants to complain.... and someone has to listen to the ****... On this you have my condolances.
I remember that draft with Chop. I remember I wanted us to draft the best available offensive lineman. It angered me when we took Chop instead. Despite Penn State being my team for college, my anger took over. You know what I did though? After we drafted Chop? I turned on my favorite Elisha Cuthbert movie. A film called The Girl Next Door. I let it play in the background while my wife and I baked a teriyaki glazed ham, with tennis racket smashed potatoes and a slice of warm apple pie. Then we put on a Drake album and reflected on the drafting of Chop. After that...I created another account on Thephins so l could annoy everyone.
I like Stafford and I was really happy when he got a ring. But I do not think people use the term Elite properly. It is like that scene from that move with the Princess...Inconceivable??? The word was thrown around over and over and over... And then it was pointed out that the person using it must not know what it means. Well I will explain. People are talking about QB's There are a lot of very skilled, and athletic Qb's in this league... The talent level is incredible. But the term elite is for: "The best of the best." It is not for: "All kinds of talented Qb's" So if you were to for the example write the name of 32 starting NFL Qb's and then rank them from 1-32.... the top 2 or 3 would be elite. QB's 4,5,6 would be very, very good. Qb's 7-12 would be above average and after that you get average QB's and so on and so forth. So if Stafford is Elite as just was posted....(and everyone is allowed to make their own rankings from 1-32) That is going to be a VERY interesting list reading from 4 on down (To see who he ranks Stafford above.) These type of rankings are difficult because the overall talent level in the NFL at the QB position has never been higher. Every year we have a handful of extremely talented Qb's coming into the league... (Stroud, Daniels, Williams) The talent that came into the league in Tua's draft class was unreal.... (Hurts, Herbert, Burrow, Tua) But to use the term "Elite" properly it has to refer to the best of the best... Not the talented, or really productive... But the best of the best of the best... Make a list from 1-3 and pick three QB's ... and that is it. I have loved watching Stafford for years....He is not on my list.
There's the explosive offense we knew so well last year. Tua's back and getting into a groove with the rest of the unit. nice lookin drive there
So far so Good... Intersting that they paid Zero attention to Waddle ... I mean my 96 year old grandmother could have beat that defence.
Defence got off the field quick... that is going to pay dividends later if they can avoid those long field length drives.
