Good move for Sparano, I'm sure the players needed this little break. I recall last week the Bengals did the same thing and saw the same movie. Should provide a morale boost for Sparano and co.

    Saw this on twitter:

You think they'd pick a better movie.

I would have taken them to District 9 or Inglorious Basterds, but that's just me ...

Jeff_Darlington: Why Sparano chose G.I. Joe: He figured there would be "things blowing up" and it had a "nice-looking woman in it too."

    Well away from here
The big picture is that Sparano would like this to appear as impromptu as it gets in many ways. But, you can bet after watching his team drag *** all over the field the other night, he wanted to make sure they had more time to recover.

As CK pointed out, the coaches would be all over it which is a logical step given the camp they'd run etc. Just the fact the coach noticed will mean something to the players.....good stuff. Good coaches sweat the little stuff.

    Exactly Richard.

Boys needed a physical day of rest, and to be shown a little kindness and soft side near the end of preseason here.

I hope the third stringers enjoyed it. It may be their last week in the NFL. Ever.

For political correct issues, you can't publically take a team to watch a movie about fuzzing up nazis.

GI Joe, the way to go. After all, they are "real American heros" !!

And BTW, the players would have watched "As Good As It Gets" (terrible movie!!!!) to skip practice.

Seems like Saban or Wannstedt took the team to the movies at least once, I recall it happening, just not the coach. Seems like the movie may have been Remember The Titans, which was a superb movie IMO.

First off, there is nothing MORE politically correct than killing Nazis. They're about the last politically correct bad guys you can hate with impunity. Second, in the movie, they are real International heroes.

    1. Get a grip of yourself and look outside your box. Just because what they did was wrong, well, I'm not going to get into that. I would not let my team go see that movie just because of where it stands. You may applaud the movie, but it isn't something you want to publically associate a professional franchise with, it's simple as that.

    2. I didn't watch the movie, just the cartoon, excuse me.

I loved Inglorious Basterds, but Sienna Miller in tight pants wins out every time and twice on sundays.

I'd be the first to pull the trigger gents, trust me. Both my grandfathers were prisoners of war fighting for Italy. Don't get me wrong. I don't know, I personally wouldn't take a team to that movie - thats just me.

I like this. The team needs rest so eventually cancelling practice is almost a given but sparano decides to do something productive in still having the team together while they rest. Nice move.

Should have them all watch Rudy as a team. That way they can see someone with heart with the odds severely against him. Not to mention how his team came to love him. Kinda reflects how the media views us this season.

Quite frankly, I'd love to hear Channing Crowder's review of the film. But then again, I just love hearing him in an interview period.

Back on topic, I like this. Cancelling practice, but having them bond over a flick. That's awesome!

The old school version of the Longest Yard, the one with Burt Reynolds..

I can hear the jokes from here...

And you just know Channing C was talking during the movie.

I think it is good idea to give the players a break with some pure escapism, but hearing Sparano say "GI Joe" is hillarious...

I like the Rudy suggestion. But, putting the movie aside, I think the mere idea of giving the team a much needed day off and taking them as a team to the movies is a very smart idea on the part of Sparano & Co. Should help build team unity. Players and coaches.

It should have been made for people over 20. We're the ones who grew up with it. Transformers 1 was a movie both the new and old generation could enjoy. Transformers 2 was dog ****. Talk about politically incorrect.

Basterds would have been the better pick. Forget everything else, it's simply the best movie in the theatres right now, and my favorite movie of the year so far. These aren't children we're talking about, they can handle an R rated movie.

But agree that it's the thought that counts. Good move by Coach Sparano!
