Ugh... and average of 14 carries per game is simply not enough for ronnie brown, or any #1 back really. We're lucky that Ricky has been able to pick up some carries as well though and do a good job with them to keep the running game at least alive. Thats fine if were trying to save him and keep him fresh and all that, but there comes a time when you just need to give him the ball, let him build up a rhythm, let him wear down the defense...

I Would like to see what he can do with 20-22 carries a game

Now I know why Ronnie Brown is not Adrian Peterson!

Kind of strange the way that Sparano and co. have been using, not just Brown, but a lot of offensive players...I don't get it...unless like some have said, that Brown's knee isn't 100% yet, but that doesn't sound like Sparano...
Either way, this season, we win or lose as the defense goes...so I don't think that Brown getting or not getting enough touches is paramount in their decision making process...Disnardo likes this. -

I think the staff has been on strict regimen of carries for brown and its directly related from the trainers to the coach. It was projection from the start and their sticking to their plan. Their also taking into account his and ours future and doing whats best for it.
I like the platoon. i like having ronnie ricky and cobsie on the field at the same time. next year his production will move up.....a littlehugoguzman and Crappy Tipper like this. -
I think it's smart they don't give him a lot of carries. The two back (and now with the Giants probably a three back) league is the trend right now. I'd rather have three guys (which we have at least three in Brown, Williams & Cobbs and maybe four if he pans out in Lou Polite) bashing the other teams D instead of just one guy.
Let them all wear the defense down  -
-
Besides having at least 3 running backs and sometimes 4 in the rotation means that if any one of them gets hurt the team won't have to re-tool most of the playbook. -
I actually find myself agreeing with Armando, give the man the ball.
-
Chicken or the egg sometimes. Do we win when he gets the football more, or does he get the football more when he's good, thereby making us win, etc.
Or are we winning, even when he is running a lot and not getting a lot of yards, because of other parts of the team.
Correlation is not the same as causation. -
I look at his #'s and the win loss ratio as a result of the defense & QB doing an effective job more than the other way around.
In the Arizona game this year what would running him 20 times have gotten us? Nothing because there were failures in other parts of the game that eliminated the necessity for us to utilize him properly. -

I respect all of your opinions here, but I think this issue of Ronnie not getting enough carries is crazy. IMO.
Look, just like how everything else in life changes, so does the NFL. The days of RBs getting 20-30 times a game are over! Mark my words! Look at how just about every other team in the NFL has the 2 or 3 back system. You have to combine the total yards rushed.
The days when guys would pound it 20 to 30 times a game...look at how those guys would end up....usually crippled or at least in a lot of pain for the rest of their lives and how many times have you seen when you have that one guy that you rely on pounding 20 to 30 times a game and he goes out and then you're left with a primary back-up and screwed. Those days are over and it's evident on just about every other team in the NFL. We're going to have to come up with a different criteria for judging an "elite" RB.
Now the important thing to remember here is... THE GUY IS COMING OFF OF MAJOR KNEE SURGERY!!!! Geez! Give it a rest.....literally. =D We have at least two other quality backs. Why would you do that? We want to win now, but we also want to build a team that will have success now AND in the future. Distributing the ball around and keeping your guys fresh and healthy for now and for the future is a good way to start, no? Especially when one is coming off of MAJOR KNEE SURGERY! =D I'm so glad this staff gets that! It's so refreshing as opposed to the other shmos we've had here in the past. Finally!!!
The funny thing is, we're having success with what we're doing! Why knock it! You guys do remember last year, right?...and some of our rushing issues has to do with the interior of the OL instead of which guy is getting the ball.
I'm really psyched how things have gone this year already and I have a lot of hope for the future, which was hard to say for a long time now. Just enjoy the ride and be happy that we appear headed in the right direction and already have had so many great moments this year as Phin fans. Wooooooo!!! =D Onward and upward!! =)BrazForPhins and djphinfan like this. -
Just imagine D cordinators sitting in a room talking about how to defend the backfield of THE R.R.C. Multi dimensional, supremely talented players with high football IQ and instincts. Scary....just get the oline together and our offense will be lethal

Sadly, there is a chance that we lose Brown to another team that's looking to pay big bucks for an every-down (or almost every down) back. Barring another injury setback next year, Brown is likely going to command a very large salary in 2010, and I'm not sure that Parcells and company are going to want to foot the bill for a guy that they rotate with Ricky, Cobbs, etc...
I'm supposed to try and be objective as a writer, but I can't help but root for Brown because, for me, he represents the epitome of being a football player.
He doesn't *****. He plays like a gladiator, never shying away from contact and often seeking it out. He works hard. He's multi-dimensional. He almost never fumbles.
Oh, and I love how he smiles and jaws it up with defenders after big collisions...reminds me of how I was and how my contemporaries played the game growing up in Miami.
But you know what? If Parcells and company decide that his price tag is too high for what he brings to the table in our multi-back system, then I'm all for it.
I'll just be a big Ronnie Brown fan for whatever team he plays for, except when he plays the Dolphins.padre31 likes this. -
A first rounder commands a lot of money which is why I think the Eagles have traded down a lot recently. There are definitely gems in the later rounds but finding them is the key. -
I think Ronnie Brown can carry use for a lot of the time. -
I would prefer to see something like
Ronnie 50%
Ricky 40%
Cobbs 10%
Give or take depending on results
I think we need to get the mileage we can out of Ricky while we have him. His talent is too high to ride the pine and get no carries.
All considered I would like to see about 30-35 total carries per game 15-18 to Ronnie 10-12 to Ricky 5-7 to Cobbs or other. And that be subject to change depending on what the defense is giving up.
If we need some outside corners Ricky should be the lead dog on this sled - we can't whine about #'s we need to focus on the components resulting in a victory no matter how it shakes out.
Hell if Cobbs is hitting the hole like a mad man I wouldn't mind seeing him get 10 carries in a game - some days you have it some days you don't and the team shouldn't get so hung up on who the starter is or who should get so many carries. -
We may see these combos more often in the NFL from now on...though you gotta run your best weapon more, in our case Brown...
BUT you'll probably have your wish, and mine's, next year, not now.
And what if we go to the post-season? Then we'll thank sparano for keeping Brown fresher...
With the kind of injury he had, he might have to retire if it happens again. We better save our best asset for the future. -
He is not getting the carries but he has made some great plays especially in the red zone. That is why he is in consideration for a pro bowl berth.
IMO the main reason for his lack of production is our OCs penchant for spreading the ball around.
I am as frustrated as anyone that he is being misused by yet another OC .
Ronnie should be getting those third down throws IMO but I guess we should be grateful that he has remained healthy .
If by some miracle we get into the playoffs he will show up big .Great players play great during the playoffs. -
Oh yeah....Psst. (whisper)....He's coming off of major knee surgery. Do you want to ruin his career when it's not neccesary. Why?
If we can improve the interior of the OL, believe me, the inside run game will greatly improve. -
Why i have peace with this situation is because i feel confident that ronnies not getting the carries because our coaches are stpid, its because ronnie is on a regimen of carries.
Iam sure this week will be different. The team now knows it controls its own fate, i believe the coaches will now get ronnie more involved. Its a golden oppurtunity and should be taken very seriously. -
-
I can see the coaches meeting with ronnie and saying to him,' we've kept you on a strict diet all year, we have our destiny in our hands, are you ready ronnie?'...and BOOM 20 carries with 5 receptions.
I think this whole thing of ronnie not getting enough caries is mostly based on pacing him during the season because of his injury. I believe they have handled the situation correctly and have not gotten desperate and comprimised their plan...all because of whats best for the future.
It might be time like Aqua says, to scrap that plan now and go for it. -
