Just read a quote on ESPN regarding the Amendola signing which paraphrased said: "Miami is like the guy who goes to the repair shop because his car won't start but just spent his last 35 bucks on air fresheners." I don't care what you think of ESPN, that's just good.
Because there are some here who never liked Landry from day 1. He's a slow receiver with attitude problems, who happens to have awesome hands and plays really hard. I'm not sure how anyone can add those four things up and get "highest paid WR in the league". Comparing him to Rock's list of $4M players, you can say the exact same thing about 7-Eleven (Chris Hogan) minus the attitude problems. The only difference is, 7-Eleven is always open. I would take four Hogan's over one Landry any day of the week.
Like I said in numerous post.I was fine trading landry if it was last year and we got full value.The value we got sucked because we have morons running the front office. And know way is Chris hogan anywhere near as good as landry!Take away Tom brady and he is an average player. And I never said.landry should be paid as the highest paid wr.But he is better than both of these guys by far that we signed today and the money is about the same this year.
Man, it's not as bad as I feared, but I don't get it at all. Wilson and Amendola make sense, but not together and for this much.
We are much faster now at wideout, especially with Jakeem Grant expected to get more snaps. Any offensive lineman on the Phins this year shouldn't have to block long. I think that's the goal with these signings. I don't think we have to waste a Norwellian sized contract on the OL. Believe me, I'm a staunch proponent of upgrading the interior of our line, but these WR signings might do that anyways. The Phins still need to draft two interior linemen, IMO, as it stands right now.
So they sign two slot receivers that together should equal Landrys production, for just about as much as it would have cost to keep Landry. Can someone explain how these are good moves?
Nobody knows if they're good moves yet, only predictions. We'll have to wait and see what our offensive ranking looks like at the end of this year. Neither guy may outpace Landry's individual production, but if the offense is far more dynamic and efficient, then what does it matter?
Not really sure what this signing was all about aside from simply being a mentor in the locker room. Scratching my head! I would have figured that a tall/strong WR to push or replace Parker would have been the more logical addition instead of DA.
I believe now Jordy Nelson will replace Danny in New England.. Hes younger and will thrive there I believe.
I'm not terribly excited about Danny boy. Maybe he can impart some wisdom IRT Joshy boys offense. But I am a little intrigued by the idea of Stills, Grant, Wilson and Amendola on 3rd and 6. They could make a Defense look like the Keystone cops running round in circles.
They plan on spreading the ball around instead of force-feeding it to Landry for an entire year. Wilson has the potential to be a cheaper Landry in terms of skillsets and productions (as shown his metrics are better). Amendola has a high football IQ and great/disciplined run router - someone Gase implicated was missing from this team over the past couple of years. Not to mention he can handle punt return duties. Are they good? We can't possible know yet.
So we sign 2 slot r's when we could have used that money to sign Andrew Norwell. But I guess its more important to have 2 slot's+jakeem, why protect the QB right?
Because they are smart man, don't you know we want smart players for when the SAT's come around. Landry is so dumb he caught 400 passes by pure luck, if he was smarter he would have caught 550 passes.
Who else were they gonna throw the ball to? Julius Thomas? Parker? Caroo? Some of you overlook the obvious here. Landry was being force fed quite a bit which is why his efficiency #'s are god awful for a man who's targeted as much as he was.
You say Parker as if he's not a starting WR for our team. People complain about Landry and 8.8 but Wilson just last year had 9.0. I'm sure he's a decent player but come on man this dude is not worth 8 million. Grant and a draft pick would have been fine. Hell put in Caroo and see what he does. In all of Gase infinite wisdom he didn't start Drake until he had to and that worked out pretty good.

I never said nor implied, they were more important than offensive line help. I never said nor implied, that they shouldn't;t do anything about the line. I never said nor implied Wilson is better than Landry. I never said nor implied Landry was the greatest while he was here. So per usual, stop making up my arguments then asking me to defend the stuff you made up.

I’m pretty amazed that we have made all these changes when the qb play in 2017 was as bad as it was Landry’s ypc was highly qb driven cutler threw less than one hands full worth proper lead shoulder screens all season. Under three every deep ball he threw all season. Afraid of contact or not willing to take it which took all the 5 and 7 step drop off pa more vertical shots off the table. Hell gase in one game to force him to stand in played nothing but 3 step That dude was bolting at first sign of color in a pre snap and progression read o before he even got to his second progression
Guess you are. A player can have a few better skills/abilities/traits than another player, without them being better. If I said that DeShaun Watson was faster, younger and cheaper than Aaron Rodgers, would you say I'm saying he's better? I dunno, maybe expand your vocabulary or something.
Force fed it to Landry. Pssh. That's comical. Yeah, they said: "forget about throwing it to anyone else, no matter if anyone else is open, just throw it to Landry. He's not that good, but for the heck of it, just keep throwing it to him. He has incriminating pictures of me, so please, just force it to him as much as possible!". He got a lot of balls thrown to him because he was open and our OL sucked balls at times, so the QB had no time to throw it anywhere else, so he might as well throw it to our most consistent player with great hands who many times would take it and fight and get first downs. Imagine where we would have been without all of his hard fought first downs? Ahh f it!
Just so we're looking at both sides, it takes more than one team to make a trade. We can't assume Landry would have garnered significantly more trade return last year than he did this year. You have to find a team willing to take on the trade.
Ok, Watson is faster, younger and cheaper than Rodgers. Are those good enough reasons to trade Rodgers for peanuts and replace him with Watson? I certainly don't think so. Btw, Landry and Albert Wilson are the same age. Landry is just better
Hm. He was good last year (#25 per PFF) but I'm not a fan of this signing at all. 1. He's 32 years old and is reportedly getting a two-year deal. That's absurd, and I would bet a lot of money that he (just like Timmons and Thomas) is jettisoned at the start of the '19 off-season to save cap. 2. A lot of people are calling this a "locker-room" or a "leadership" signing. Fine, but I prefer to think of that as a coach's role. I hope we didn't just hand a player 6 million per year to do someone else's job. 3. Albert Wilson and Danny Amendola essentially fill the same role. If we're looking for depth, what's wrong with Leonte Carroo? Jakeem Grant? Isaiah Ford? Drew Morgan? 4. After this, the Wilson signing, the James extension, and the eventual draft class, how much money can we realistically pour into areas of need? Miami still has to find help at RB, TE, G, LB, and potentially DT. 5. How many times do NFL teams have to sign a system player from New England, only to realize that they can't perform outside of that system, before they will finally learn that it doesn't work? I like our other moves, but this one doesn't make any sense to me. Praying to the football God's that Miami backs out before tomorrow.

Here's a fun fact 345 of Wilson's 554 yards came in 4 games. He had 22 receptions and 209 yards in the remaining 9 games he played. That's 9.5 y/r for those wondering, I seem to recall a complaint about 8.8.
I think spending near 10% of your cap on a slot WR is reason enough to not keep him. I think we what we got in return, Wilson, Amendola, 4th & 7th, is fair. Again, I don't know why you guys have to either queef "my reasons for thinking X" into thin air OR try to create a question leading me to pick a specific answer you want me to say so you can argue against it....when my stance was already clearly stated.
Yes but he knew all his multiplication tables by the 3rd grade, so he's really smart and we all know, that's what you look for most when adding a player to your team. At least that's the narrative on this forum this year. Who knows, next year the criteria for bringing in new players will be if they are good jugglers. I bet next year, if we trade Wilson for Landry and bring him back, the same guys bashing Landry now will then be praising the signing and saying Wilson sucked anyway.
Point is he cost too much and they did not want him on the team. Norwell is about the same as Landry because he got roughly 13 mil a year. I rather get a mid priced free agent than one big one and then fill the rest in the draft. We'll see why they picked up amendola once season starts but the other contract for wilson is cheap
I can't see them NOT making a move for a legit pass catching TE. None of this will work without it ...... well unless they plan on getting more out of the backs from a receiving standpoint.
