Love it. On the day we cut him from Dolphins Survivor here on The Phins. Great punter. Extended him the day after he boomed a 57 yarder.
So glad I get to see that golden calve work its magic the next few years. I'm surprised we got him so cheaply lol.
I thought we planned to slaughter the golden calf as an offering to the football Gods on opening weekend?
If the dolphins ever have to go up against the patriots in a punt-pass-and kick competition, the patriots are done..........
I watch Reggie Roby in his prime and every punter since, along with Larry Seiple before Reggie, and IMO Fields is hands down the best punter we've ever had.
He really is stellar, it's true. Would you say he rates the highest at performing his position duties of any of our players? I mean, as punters go, does he punt better than, say Dansby 'linebacks' (is that a verb???
Well, I guess we can thank Randy Mueller for getting us a fine NT and a fine punter out of his one year running the draft in Miami. Considering that Ginn, Beck, Satele and Booker are all still in the league, it really wasn't a bad evaluation of talent other than the terrible overdrafting of Ginn. We had a pretty good punter the 2 yrs before Fields, in Donnie Jones. He was a RFA in 2007 and the Rams signed him to an offer sheet that Mueller would not match, and we got a 7th round pick as compensation. That pick was used on Fields. Jones was decent for us, but has been a 2nd Team All Pro twice since he left Miami. Fields has a slightly better career average than Jones, 45.7 to 45.3.
"I want a punter in the green room next year!". That'll go down as one of those famous lines ;p By the way does anyone remember the fights on the forums when a kicker got a million dollars a year. That was considered a huge sin. Now look at the salaries. Kickers are up what...350% in contracts in just a decade? Somehow I think we will see a $10 million signing bonus kicker in my lifetime.
