I support Kapernick fully with everything he has done away from football. I support any and all protests of the anthem.

But I want nothing to do with him as a football player. I hate his style, and do not in any way want the Fins to go down that route of chaos/sandlot nonsense. Cutler was the logical choice. It didn't work. So be it.

I understand the reasoning behind Cutler and I get why that call was made, but I think as of 2017, CKap is a better QB than Cutler is.

I view things differently in regards to decisions. Most people think there's just right decisions & wrong decisions. I think there's right decisions, wrong decisions and bad decisions. If you've done due diligence and you come down to making a decision and it really is or close to a crapshoot and the decision you make doesn't work out, then that's a wrong decision and I don't fault anyone for that. Now if a person makes a bad decision, where the logic is flawed or it based on emotion whatever, then I will ding the person for that REGARDLESS if the decision worked out or not.

Denver taking Tebow where they took him was a bad decision, even if he was still their QB because they could have taken him later. San Diego taking Leaf was a wrong decision. One was dumb, one was a coin flip.

Now, the only caveat to that is if a person constantly makes the wrong decision, then it is time to move on from them.

 

I'm really surprised nobody got behind Kaepernick. It would've made somebody like Ross instantly sympathetic to the media.

That said, I think Miami was in a particular situation to go get Cutler. That's easy to see. I supported that and as U13 pointed out, it was a sensible experiment and simply didn't work out.

Still, I'm shocked the owners got together and said "don't sign this guy." I don't see any benefit to their doing that. He's obviously good enough to be somewhere and he doesn't seem like a terrible person. Even if his politics seem a little short-sighted or even wrong, he doesn't seem like a bad dude.

 

They did it in the hopes that this whole thing would die down. They basically traded letting it burn hotter for a little bit, so the flame would die out sooner.

 

You act like there was this plethora of other options before or after Thill's injury. So who were these other amazing options that would have us playoff bound?

You also act like you know for fact that Gase never approached Cutler UNTIL Thill got hurt. For all you know, they did discuss Cutler coming in if Thill got hurt. That process went pretty quickly and smoothly, if you recall.

 

I'm on the record as saying that I would have loved it if the Dolphins took a look at CK. However, (supposedly) Cutler knew the system. Cutler WANTED to play for Gase. Cutler was fired up to be back.

It seems that none of that was true, but I think they were all reasonable beliefs.

CK had no knowledge of this system. He is, like it or not, carrying a lot of baggage that some may deem distracting. To top it all off he would not have been a big fan of Miami's Cuban community after his little Castro stunt.

So, most reasonable people would look at these things (and more) and come to the conclusion that Cutler is the right choice. In hindsight I doubt CK would have played worse, he may have cost more. I said months ago that CK's ceiling is higher than Cutlers, but I think his floor is lower. Especially if he doesn't know the offense. That line of thinking was because I thought Cutler would come in and at least put up a 90 passer rating. It looks like Cutler's floor may very well be as low as CK's.

 

how would hiring a guy, to a MIAMI TEAM, that wore a t shirt in support of fidel castro, make ross sympaathetic to the media? The media would rip Ross's *** out if he went to Kaep.

as far as football goes, i don't think kaep makes any difference. he might be slightly better, but he doesn't know the offense, if we already are dumming down the plays with a QB that is supposed to know the plays already, what would it be with a QB that has 1 month with Gase.... Also, unlike Thill who has improved most years since a rookie. Kaep has regressed every year he's been a starter, not a good sign.

 

Nobody really has a "plan" beyond their starting QB bro. Well, they do, but they all suck unless you get lucky. Vikings ... they got lucky catching keenum in a bottle. Packers are the norm. Starter goes down, season goes down too.

This idea that somehow Miami needed, what? A top 10 QB? Come on man.

 

I do think Kaepernick is talented enough to be in the NFL, but I'm also a realist in admitting that there was zero chance he would fit in Miami. Think about it- if we signed Kaep instead of Cutler on the exact same day, he would have had two weeks total to learn our offense, which many say is one of the more complex systems in the league. At the same time though, Gase and everyone else would have been getting bombarded with questions over kneeling, protests and what Kaep's attitude is like....and this is during a hurricane where we lost about a dozen practices due to travel and all the other issues that unfolded. It would have been a disaster.

Like it or not, our best options with so little learning time were Moore, Peyton Manning or Cutler....and Manning was not coming back out of retirement. There was simply no way to get Romo, Kaep or any of the other options up to speed and that was before we knew we were taking a month-long world tour.

And inevitably, the conversation would have turned to, "Have the Dolphins given Kaep enough of a chance to succeed?" The answer would have been "NO", just like it is with Cutler. You can't just throw a QB into a roster with no knowledge of the system and expect miracles these days. Heck, Cuter was in the system a few years ago and he's still struggling.

 

And, he offended Cuban Americans. I’m not saying he should be burnt at the stake for it, but in Miami....that should matter.
