Great hire. We have a coach who can creatively create pressure with his DL.

    Hell yeah!

Will he do better than Fangio? What do people think?

Hopefully some good news. I hope this means we keep Wilkins.

It’s actually very easy to do worse - Josh Boyer ring a bell?

Weaver has twice been passed over for the DC gig in Baltimore. I'm not getting my hopes up too high.

He actually wants to be here so on that alone he's a better DC.

Dpate made a great post addressing this. The Ravens over the last decade + have had many position coaches on defense leave for DC jobs elsewhere. Most have done very well. And that includes position coaches that were passed up for DC in Baltimore.

He was also being interviewed as a head coach candidate in Washington and Atlanta. Had two interviews with the Skins so I'd think there's something there....

This isn't going to be an easy gig. 3rd DC in 3 years. Missing a lot of talent. Best of luck, but can't make chicken salad out of chicken shi*.

No, but I remember Boyer’s horrific play calling pretty clearly. Fangio was a huge upgrade over Boyer, even if he didn’t want to be here. He kept the D competitive after all the injuries, where Boyer would run the same schemes regardless of who was out there.

Vrabel. This guy was not even chosen as his teams own DC when they had an opening. He has one years experience as a DC, again why would we be excited by him?

He coached the DL, so does that mean Dolphins keep Wilkins now? Do they go after the Ravens DT who is a FA?

Not excited, but he’s a good hire. He was a HC candidate in 2 places and it looks like he’s well respected. There’s a article about him on si.com from Alain Poupart, might want to read it.

He was also the Ravens assistant head coach. Take a look at the former defensive position coaches for the Ravens and see their trajectory. We obviously can’t be sure how well Weaver will do in Miami, but the Ravens have had a top defense for the better part of 20 years and Weaver was a part of last season’s #1 rated defense. And he was the DL coach and assistant head coach. He interviewed for 2 HC’ing positions this year. And by all accounts he’s a hell of a coach and person. I’m not going to sit here and pretend that he’s the next DC messiah, but I’m curious and excited to see what he can bring to the Dolphins.

I'm pretty sure Wilkins is a goner. From what I've read, he's not taking a discount, and we don't have the cap space to compete.

They should tag and trade I think.

I don’t think they’ll do that. Grier said that Wilkins deserved to test free agency just like Gesiki, at least that’s what I think he said…

Yeah, I heard that but I think the difference is the Dolphins would be OK if Wilkins played on the franchise tag, and they really didn't want Gesicki.

Wilkins is worth more in the league. I think he'd get a big multi-year contract if he was a FA, whereas Gesicki just got a small one year 3.5m guaranteed contract.

That is fair. I just wonder why the Ravens did not hire him when their DC position became open this year.

Who knows, but I doubt it’s because he’s not capable. And many other positional coaches there weren’t hired as their DC and went on to other teams and did great as their DC.

Looks like weavers first move is to fire Campinelle and hire Joe Barry from the packers

He was our LB coach and he came from Michigan where he was their LB coach. I’m not sure what to think about the Barry hire. He’s also the run game coordinator now and the Packers, while he was there., were horrible in that department.

I thought that Fangio did a pretty decent job.

The defense improved considerably from the previous year.

Sounds interesting. I still find it interesting he was not hired by the Ravens. Who does not hire the best person for the job? If he is your right hand man, do you let him walk for the same position with another team?

quite honestly as of today we do not have that much talent on defense. We have 2 injured DE's. We have one DT under contract. We have only one starting healthy linebacker under contract. We have one safety under contract.

“ And I've watched Anthony do that as a defensive line coach here in Baltimore. He has the ability to get guys to work 10 times harder than they wanted to work, and they're doing it on their own. And that's today's coach."

    That’s 50
    Percent of the battle

The other 50 is schematic design and playcalling

You don’t get that last 50 right it don’t matter
