For those seeking some clarity regarding what our beloved Dolphins have been planning lately, the South Florida Sun Sentinel has an update:
A lot of what's said around this time of year is to be taken with a grain of salt, but I actually believe what Ross is saying here. There's really no reason to admit (imply) that we're not ready to contend for the Superbowl unless he meant it.
Reading the tea leaves from my perspective, this would seem to eliminate older options such as Carson Palmer and Matt Hasselbeck, as well as risky free agents such as DeAngelo Williams.
I'm ok with not going all-in for 2011 as long as there is marked improvement.

Yep I read this too as Ross blessing drafting a new QB in the draft. Good because Palmer doesn't excite me at all.
-
Palmer is ideal to QB while we groom our QB for the future. As long as he can be had for a late draft pick I'd be all for it.
This reinforces Ross' confidence in Jeff as a GM, that was apparent when we were rumored for Cowher (wanted his own GM or control of personnel, etc) or when we went for Harbaugh, Jeff was always in the picture. I personally like that, Ireland has had a few solid drafts IMO. -

cool, iam fine with this, its what Ross should say, hes been a good owner thus far..however, it doesnt change the plan, its all about what QB you have conviction about. and whether you wanna just get 1 QB, or Mark Ingram and 1 QB.

Sparano here for 3 years?
*insert Darth Vader NOOOOOOOOO!*
Why bother anymore? -
THIS is the way an owner should think and talk. I'm loving that Ross has come out and said these things publicly. A huge reason for playing hard and working hard for any employer is knowing that the boss has your back. Ross seems to have both Ireland's and Sparano's back. Like them or not, Ross is playing his cards correctly and I love it.
IMO, Ross is a winner and will get this franchise back to elite status. It can't and won't happen overnight though.siciliansith, djphinfan, Killerphins and 1 other person like this. -
I like the fact that Ross is a believe in continuity. But I still have concerns about Tony Sparano. If he was the primary decision maker in the Daboll hiring, I really have concerns over whether or not he has what it takes to fix this offense. The good news is if he can't get it done, I think we can keep continuity by having Mike Nolan become the head coach and bringing in a qualified offensive coordinator. That's IF the 2011 season ends up being the disaster I think it might be.

Overall, Daboll looks as if he'll be a solid hire. I'll at least give him some time before I burn him at the stake.MrClean and siciliansith like this. -
While it was the smart thing for Ross to say, let's see how he feels if this team starts off 0-2 or 0-3, with a home loss or two in there.
How many more years do they get? If they draft a 1st round QB, it's got to be playoffs or bust in 2012DolfanJake likes this. -

I am hoping it means Ross gave his blessing to drafting Colin Kaepernick!
-
If Newton/Gabbert/Mallett or somebody else is on the team, I think he gets through 2012. -
But that doesn't stop me from worrying. The one thing that bugs me is when I read Browns threads from last year how much the criticism sounds exactly like the things we complained about with Henning. Very predictable playcalling, no in game adjustments, etc. I know these have to be taken with a grain of salt as fans criticism of coaches can be undeserved or over the top, but reading what Browns fans had to say about this guy might be a sign of the things to come. Here's a sample -

It could very well mean Ross wants to stick with Henne and continue developing him rather than prematurely and irrationally ditching him for a quick fix vet with limited upside.
We just don't know...... and until we know, we won't know....... so stop speaking for Ross you idiot b/c you don't know what his blessing are or aren't. -
-
The guy doesn't know what the hell Ross meant by his blanket statement, but he sure as s*** tried to make it seem as though it were whispered directly into his ear. -
Omar is correct though when he says that having more time makes it easier to draft a first round QB -

True...... but he is the one who hired the guy that is responsible for those calls, -
I read that and can't help but chuckling immaturely with Henning's name above the underlined part. It's funny b/c you didn't mean it to be funny. lol. -
Sparano has a lot more riding on the season than Ireland imo. Ireland has acquired good talent, Sparano has not made the most of it. -

Fair point, but lets not forget Ireland says he has supported Tony throughout this entire off season. He does not feel our HC is a problem area. That is a direct reflection of Ireland. I also have a hard time laying the Sparano hire (good or bad) solely at Parcells feet. I think Ireland had to discuss who the head coach would be before taking the job, if not he is an idiot. Parcells might of sold Jeff on the idea, but Jeff had to agree to it and he knew he was tied to it once he agreed. He even got a chance to seperate himself from it and he instead chose to say that Tony was his guy. -
I dont understand why you automatically take the worst case senario. what if we start 3-0 . wtf
