http://www.miamiherald.com/1279/story/511948.html Looks like we were very close to getting Chris Long if Jake didn't sign that night.
yeah chris long or jake long they are both great picks but right now i am happy we have our franchise LT and i hope he turns out to be the next richmond webb or even better
we draft Chris Long... but then the Rams take Jake.... we saw Houston have to reach to get Duane Brown in the first round, I'd imagine we would have traded up into the first to get a LT? Our whole draft changes...
The drop of Merling right in to our laps makes the Jake Long pick a lot easier to swallow for those of us who wanted Chris. And it turns out this was played exactly right by BP/JI because its not often that a top 20 player slides in to your lap at 32 and the way OT flew off the board we wouldnt have nabbed a very good one there like I thought we might have been able to. I think myself and many of the Chris Long supporters saw a draft filled with good tackles and figured, hey one of these guys have to be a good value at 32 or 57 and as it turns out all the good ones were gone very quick. Thats why theyre gm's and front office personnel; great job by our boys.
Exactly...It shows that the GMs knew what they are doing. RT would have been impossible to fill. We would have to have to trade up back in the late first round and reached badly or settle for Oniel Cousins or Anthony Collins in the later rounds. The same goes for Matt Ryan supporters like myself. I tried doing a redraft if we picked Ryan with #1 but had no idea how to fill the RT whole later.
We probably spoke to most of the top 6. I would have been surpsrised if we didn't. Celtkin was right, we won either way.
