44? I thought he was 50. Oh well good move.

He's going to be 51 in March so you are correct. Salguero should be ashamed.

And here is the Parcells connection. Should have known this group had a plan. :smackhead:

Nolan, who resigned from the same position with the Denver Broncos a day earlier, worked in the same capacity under Dolphins Vice President of Football Operations Bill Parcells in 2000, when Parcells was general manager of the New York Jets.

this was a contrived contract initiated well before the release of Pasqualini
w/ this FrontOffice, everything is on a need to know basis & after the fact
having ventured that opinion
I must say, I am extremely pleased w/ the choice they made & not surprised
Welcome to Miami Coach Nolan:rimshot::party:

He's considered one of the best teachers and schemers of the 3-4 defense, which the Dolphins also run.

Well, mostly he should be un-employed and at the very least, not read.

This is going to go a very very long ways folks. An entirely new mantra is going to surround our defense. A couple of quality additions, and we are looking at beating the opposition into pulp......

noty just marshall but maybe sheffler too

I think Scheffler would be an amazing addition to the group, and easier to acquire than Marshall......much better than Fasano talent wise.....they abandoned him in the offense, the more I think about it, McDaniels is a moron....

true, so very true
there will be even more blood & brutality
to contend with when playing the Dolphins
I love it, really love it
Nolan will prove to be the TaskMaster
to inspire & guide the Miami Defense

we will contend in 2010 & dominate the NFL for a decade

What's his price? For a 4th round pick he'd be ideal. He'd improve the offense immediately even if we keep Fasano as a slot TE. There's a chance we could go defense 1,2, and 3 then.

Bring this man back into the fold if you want some real leadership on this team.

not sure bro.....I would consider him for a 4th, but that might be too high IMO....definitely for a 5th...a 4th rounder is still a very good pick...especially where Miami is slotted....early 4th round you know...?

posted this on another thread well before they hired him:

Friend Jaj:

Nolan is known for running aggressive 3-4 defenses
@ San Francisco as well as w/ the Ravens & Broncos
perfect fit for the Dolphins. why all the negativity?

can't help but believe this has been in the making
since before the decision to let go Paul Pasqualoni

looks like the new DefensiveCoordinator to me

I was just reading the ESPN article, and it mentioned this little diddy:

Nolan's scheme shaved 7.8 points a game off a defense that surrendered 28 points a game the previous season.

Here's the link: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4837350

Now, just think about that for a minute. We gave up 24.4 points/game this season. Even if the impact is slightly less, say we shave six points (a TD a game) off that, that puts us at 18.4 points/game. That would put us in the top ten (7th to be exact) of this season's top ranked defenses.

I'm stoked!

And to be honest, that's not out of the realm of possibility. We gave up way too many big plays for touchdowns. Eliminate those (or even most of those) and you're well on your way to lowering the pts/game allowed.

This is great news.

I was not excited about Al Groh or Romeo Crennel.

We need someone who will attack the passing game. The teams that are still around in the playoffs are team that can either attack you with their passing game (Saints, Colts, Vikings) or they can attack your ability to pass (Jets, Vikings)

Totally agree. This is really exciting. We do have many parts for a great defense in place. This was a huge part that we added today.

Sounds like a good hire. Hope he can have some influence on who we draft and pick up via FA.

I think they will so they can support Coach Nolan's intentions to strengthen our defense.
